Despite World.. Support For Ousted Honduran Leader, Sen. DeMint Blasts Obama For Favoring "Dictator"
AHN ^ | 7/3/09 | Chris ALingoog

Posted on 07/03/2009 4:35:31 PM PDT by pissant

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) is accusing President Barack Obama and the Organization of American States of undermining the democratic processes in Honduras, saying the military coup last week that deposed José Manuel Zelaya as president was constitutional and reflected the will of the Honduran people.

"The people of Honduras have struggled too long to have their hard-won democracy stolen from them by a Chavez-style dictator," DeMint, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, said in a statement. "The Honduran Congress, the Honduran Supreme Court, and the Honduran military have acted in accordance to the Honduran constitution and the rule of law."

The Republican called Obama's demand that Zelaya be reinstated "a slap in the face to the people of Honduras." He said the resolution issued by the OAS "tramples over the hopes and dreams of a free and democratic people."

"I am hopeful that as President Obama grows in office, he will eventually turn away from despots like Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, and Zelaya, and give the United States' full-throated support to the people of any country who are fighting for the same values we cherish and defend in America," DeMint also said.

Upholding the Constitution does not constitute a coup.

Yes. Finally an elected official in this country is speaking up on behalf of what the Hondurans are so bravely doing. I am not holding my breath for the MSM to report on this, because they have already been swigging big gulps of BO’s Kool-ade.

The part I like the best is where Jim points out the inadequacies of the president and makes a wish...but not in exactly those words.

“I am hopeful that as President Obama grows....”

I would also like to point out those values he cherishes are from a different value landscape than Obamas

Indeed, I can recall a time when Democracy and Freedom were principles the United States stood for, even when that came at a price, now Obamao is more then happy to support any tin pot Chavezista that Uncle Hugo supports.

Sad really, Jesse Helms used to stand on his principles and fight, fight, fight, no matter the voices to the contrary.

Smell the coffee Jim.

That was for public consumption. DeMint knows that many Americans are so far gone, that he has to break it down to the basics for them. Got to hit 'em where they live...Too bad that sound bite couldn't "pre-empt" 15 seconds of "American Idol".

DeMint already knows what the coffee smells like. Apparently, he has found his 'nards.

It is the same sort of thing that got Obama elected: spin and half-truth.

Honduras is COMPLETELY in the right. What happened does not match the definition of a classical military coup - the same party remains in control, the military immediately relinquished control once Zelaya was on the plane. Sound like a "military coup"?

If only there was a way to stop the media from using that terminology. This was in no way a ‘military coup’. The military was enforcing a lawful order. That does not, and cannot constitute a coup, but calling it that just increases support for the ousted Marxist.

Its not just the military, the military acted on behalf of the judicial and also had the support of the people. That is why they had their own freedom march with est. 10,000 people. It seems they are aware of the Chavez trick next door... how to become an eternal dictator.... which is what Barry O aspires to.... and they acted to prevent it.

It wasnt just the military stepping in.
