Palin Resignation Shocks Political World
Pajamas Media ^ | July 5 | Joy McCann

Posted on 07/03/2009 4:30:30 PM PDT by AJKauf

Sarah Palin’s announcement today that she is stepping down from her position as governor of Alaska, effective in two weeks, took the political world by surprise. Alaska’s lieutenant governor will be sworn in soon as that state’s chief executive in Pioneer Park. This will all be very orderly, but both the MSM outlets and the new media — the ones who are not out of town, taking mini-vacations for the Fourth of July — are oddly off-balance about the whole episode.

To be sure, part of Mrs. Palin’s announcement was expected. Most people anticipated that she would let us in on a plan not to seek re-election as governor. The widespread assumption that she intends to campaign for the presidency in 2012 fueled speculation that she’d simply complete her first term and then re-take the national stage. Hearing that the governor is not planning on even finishing out her first gubernatorial term has shocked a lot of people. It has also led to a rush to fling dirt on top of her political grave — particularly by bloggers who want to be the first to proclaim the governor “so over; so 2008.”

Hang on, though.

The timing of this announcement is very odd for someone who is trying to execute a strategy to get into the White House in 2013...

How insensitive of Palin to interrupt the 24x7 coverage of Michael Jackson’s death!

What if Sarah Palin leaves the Republican Party
and aligns herself with the American Independent Party

Today would be a very signifiant day to seek independence.

A TEA party for Independence from the Vichy Republicans.

I don’t think it’s odd at all, as I will explain with this with an old post:

I think her strategy is outstanding. Making this announcement on the 3rd of July, when all government offices are closed, Obama is on vacation at Camp David, and most media services, which lack in any credibility in fair and balanced reporting are floundering, she will capture all attention for 3 full days with no opposition. While the State Controlled Media will be tripping over each other on speculations, she and her family will have the time of their lives watching the Media Meltdown.

You said — I hope this means she is going to run for President.

Hard to tell at this point. And even if she was, no one would hear her say it at this point in time, anyway...

Let's calm down and think about this. If Sarah was running for President, she would stay AK governor and run for US Senate next year, then launch a presidential campaign as a sitting senator.

A sitting governor and a sitting senator have significantly more access to campaign finance and endorsements, plain and simple. Look at what Obama did.

Resigning was something personal.

Could be, the pitcher always has the advantage of surprise.

could be it is exactly what it appears to be, Sarah Palin decided that for the best interests of Alaska, it is better if she stepped away from the podium.

Gov Palin can be refreshingly honest, among thieves and liars that has been known to cause consternation and befuddlement..

Well, you're not too current on Free Republic politics either, are you Troll?

But, you seem pretty current on the commiebama play book - accuse others of exactly what you're doing to take the heat off of you.

Exactly which part of "socialism" don't you understand? Maybe it was on page 10 of your "Junior Obamam Manual" in the list of words to use in conjunction with any Conservative in the news at any given moment.

Maybe she did it now just to give the ol’ middle finger to the press! Gosh, I hope so! I hope there’s a run on Charmin, with the biggest delivery sent to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave!

I hope this is not health related. I REALLY hope it’s a savvy move to remove herself from the political arena and just let Sarah be Sarah, till she comes back, guns blazin’, for 2012. (Altough, I admit, I did finally remove her pic as my desktop. I’m now looking at the TARDIS, cos I could really use a trip out of this universe!)

Her speech leads me to believe that Gov Palin believes that anything she does for the next year and 15 months that might further her potential president ambitions would lead to yet another frivolous ethic complaint against her.

It would cost Alaska too much money and sap her strength as a presidential candidate. So she delegated the office to a trusted associate.

Carl of FOX says she’s writing a book and has hundreds of offers to speak each month, that to this point she has had to turn down....Each of those will earn her much much more than the $100,000/year she is currently earning now as the Gov of ALaska.

Did anyone notice a quick clause in the middle of her speech in which she turned over the Governorship to Parnell, she stated she’d be availabe [in any way] to help Parnell push Alaska’s initiatives and agenda forward.

Could there be some sort of special appointment of Sarah at a later date? Maybe some sort of unpaid special Alaska Envoy position created just for her???

That would allow her to travel outside the state, do all of the things one needs to do to campaign for other GOPers, prep for a presidential run and still be close to the successes of future Parnell legislations.......
