Sarah Palins announcement today that she is stepping down from her position as governor of Alaska, effective in two weeks, took the political world by surprise. Alaskas lieutenant governor will be sworn in soon as that states chief executive in Pioneer Park. This will all be very orderly, but both the MSM outlets and the new media the ones who are not out of town, taking mini-vacations for the Fourth of July are oddly off-balance about the whole episode.
To be sure, part of Mrs. Palins announcement was expected. Most people anticipated that she would let us in on a plan not to seek re-election as governor. The widespread assumption that she intends to campaign for the presidency in 2012 fueled speculation that shed simply complete her first term and then re-take the national stage. Hearing that the governor is not planning on even finishing out her first gubernatorial term has shocked a lot of people. It has also led to a rush to fling dirt on top of her political grave particularly by bloggers who want to be the first to proclaim the governor so over; so 2008.
Hang on, though.
The timing of this announcement is very odd for someone who is trying to execute a strategy to get into the White House in 2013...

What the hell??????
not at all...following priniciples of breaking up fallow ground!
sowing...a vision of HOPE not HYPE!
How insensitive of Palin to interrupt the 24x7 coverage of Michael Jackson’s death!
Just went to Drudge, I have been gone all day and just got hom a little while ago. I am in shock. I hope this means she is going to run for President.
What if Sarah Palin leaves the Republican Partyshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
and aligns herself with the American Independent PartyToday would be a very signifiant day to seek independence.
A TEA party for Independence from the Vichy Republicans.
I don’t think it’s odd at all, as I will explain with this with an old post:
I think her strategy is outstanding. Making this announcement on the 3rd of July, when all government offices are closed, Obama is on vacation at Camp David, and most media services, which lack in any credibility in fair and balanced reporting are floundering, she will capture all attention for 3 full days with no opposition. While the State Controlled Media will be tripping over each other on speculations, she and her family will have the time of their lives watching the Media Meltdown.
Good! Lets roll!!11!!
WTF? These writers have nothing else better to do than this? I guess not.
Palin likes sports and she knows how to throw a curve ball... LOL...
You said — I hope this means she is going to run for President.

Hard to tell at this point. And even if she was, no one would hear her say it at this point in time, anyway...
A sitting governor and a sitting senator have significantly more access to campaign finance and endorsements, plain and simple. Look at what Obama did.
Resigning was something personal.
I was over on Craigslist earlier, and they were all out of their minds. Scandals, adultery, pregnancy, indictments, embezzlement, all kinds of stuff. I think her timing could not have been better
Did you sign up TODAY just to make that commie comment, TROLL!
I smell a ZOT.
Huh? Please explain your logic, or lack thereof. And while you’re at it, lay down the pipe.
“Im not current on Alaskan politics. Is Sean Parnell truly conservative or is he going to keep Alaska skipping down the socialist path that Palin runs along?”
Hey we have a Zero voter here!!!!!!!!!!!
SOS.You got it , SOS.
I believe this makes war inevitable - avoiding it was going to be a near thing, anyway, but now I don’t see how else this ends.
I just thought about something really freakish. What if Palin plans to have AK succeed from the US?
Congrats on the temp job...
.....keep Alaska skipping down the socialist path that Palin runs along?
We have a target...

Viking Kitty time.
Could be, the pitcher always has the advantage of surprise.
could be it is exactly what it appears to be, Sarah Palin decided that for the best interests of Alaska, it is better if she stepped away from the podium.
Gov Palin can be refreshingly honest, among thieves and liars that has been known to cause consternation and befuddlement..
Fjornir I hope they pay daily...
Maybe she did it now just to give the ol’ middle finger to the press! Gosh, I hope so! I hope there’s a run on Charmin, with the biggest delivery sent to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave!
I hope this is not health related. I REALLY hope it’s a savvy move to remove herself from the political arena and just let Sarah be Sarah, till she comes back, guns blazin’, for 2012. (Altough, I admit, I did finally remove her pic as my desktop. I’m now looking at the TARDIS, cos I could really use a trip out of this universe!)
ZOT! Now, go play in the traffic or over at your regular Leftest site, whichever is less traumatic. Try not to get your feelings hurt.
Sursum Corda
Yep, probably figured he'd get through the holiday anyway before he was cued for kittydome. But then he opened his mouth...
I believe Sarah’s reasons for resigning were exactly as she stated. That’s virtually unheard of in the political arena, so people are looking for other motives.
Boy, that didn’t take long. Not only he’s gone but his stupid little statement as well. Mods must be unhappy they’re working over the holiday...
Wet cleanup on aisle 13.
Go Sarah, and to think the media gave Hillary a free pass when she quit her senate seat which she promised not to quit! The media will go for blood on this but hopefully THE PEOPLE will rise up and shut them up!
Her speech leads me to believe that Gov Palin believes that anything she does for the next year and 15 months that might further her potential president ambitions would lead to yet another frivolous ethic complaint against her.
It would cost Alaska too much money and sap her strength as a presidential candidate. So she delegated the office to a trusted associate.
Carl of FOX says she’s writing a book and has hundreds of offers to speak each month, that to this point she has had to turn down....Each of those will earn her much much more than the $100,000/year she is currently earning now as the Gov of ALaska.
I believe her also. What does the political arena know of honesty? It’s no wonder they are all looking for her ‘real reason’.
Yeah, he’s gone and so’s his stupid comment. The mods must be unhappy having to work over the holiday...
I just hope she and her family are OK. I can’t see her walking away from a fight for any other reason.
Did anyone notice a quick clause in the middle of her speech in which she turned over the Governorship to Parnell, she stated she’d be availabe [in any way] to help Parnell push Alaska’s initiatives and agenda forward.
Could there be some sort of special appointment of Sarah at a later date? Maybe some sort of unpaid special Alaska Envoy position created just for her???
That would allow her to travel outside the state, do all of the things one needs to do to campaign for other GOPers, prep for a presidential run and still be close to the successes of future Parnell legislations.......
Maybe Sarah and Todd will take some time out and sign on with Jonathan and Andy on the Time Bandit.
Why in the Hell would she run for the Senate and then mere months later run for President? That’s very illogical.
Which is a far more substantial feat than Obama's promise to make the oceans recede and heal the earth.
Oh yeah. It is so much better to waste taxpayer money. She spends most of her time defending herself and not running the state.
