Another month or two, and this really will be the biggest economic disaster since the Great Depression. Read »
The chart below, from Calculated Risk, shows the percentage decline in jobs from peak employment in all the recessions since World War 2.
We still haven't quite eclipsed the 1948 drop, but we likely will in another month or two. And that will leave only the Great Depression to make us feel better about ourselves.
The good news in the chart, such as it is, is that employment can recover quickly once it finally turns. Anyone care to place a bet as to when that will be?
Here's a bigger version from the chart on Calculated Risk. And here's CR's take on the situation.

obama depression
Second, the monthly payroll report, like the one issued today, is full of largely coincident data. However, it does have one piece of leading data: the length of the work week. This is generally considered a leading indicator because employers will tend to adjust the number of hours their employees work before hiring or firing them. For example, it would be normal for companies to begin to pay existing workers overtime before they hire additional workers because of the uncertainty related to the initial upturn in a production or service cycle.
However, commentators rarely highlight the length of the work week when discussing the monthly employment report.
What has been happening to the length of the work week? It has hit all-time lows the last two months. Thats right. The only official leading indicator in the employment report has hit all-time lows the last two months. Who has reported that? No one.

“Green Shoots”...
Gosh, I called it that (depression) 2 months ago here on FR and everyone scoffed and mocked.
As the Freeper who invented the term, “frippery slope” (had to toot my horn!) I don’t believe we can recover jobs quickly because of the nature of our jobs nowadays. IMHO, too many jobs in the last two decades or so have been “frippery”, something unnecessary. Only bloated demand and over-heated economy and easy credit made those jobs occur.
parsy, who if he can’t continue surviving, plans on whining like a titty-baby for a government check.
Remember when Clinton ran in 1992 calling it “the worst economy in the last 50 years”. This chart illustrates what a complete lie that was.
From “Chance the Gardener”.
I wasn’t one of them I have been saying obama 08 depression 09 not just a bumper sticker anymore for months lol
Thanks to the idiots in Congress and the White House for killing the Republic.

When you calculate in the number of people who have run out of employment benefits or have taken part time jobs, the unemployment rate is 16.5%.
How is that hope and change working for you Obamabots?
Does a little box show up on your screen and no picture? That is what is showing up on mine and that is what I always get when I try to do pics too
Note: in the above command, delete the space, in my example, between the '<' symbol and the word 'img'.
Note: the url address link is found by right clicking on the image you want to post, and then clicking on 'properties'. Copy and paste that url into the command.
One final note, some images are formatted to where you cannot link to them. It is rare though.
Pactice posting the chart I posted into your thread. A few image posts, and you will be an expert.
