"I know when it's time to pass the ball for victory," soon-to-be-former Governor Sarah Palin says at a press conference with her family, standing before a picturesque river and seaplane.
She says she's looking forward to the swearing in of Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. "All I can ask is that you trust me with this decision," she says. "I cannot millions of dollars and time go to waste just so I can remain as governor of Alaska.
"This decision has been in the works for a while. It comes after a great deal of prayer and deliberation."
She said when she put the decision to her family, the vote was four "yes"es and one 'Hell yeah.' She mentions the family's reaction to the mockery of Trig.
She said her decision was "fortified during her visit to the troops in Kosovo."
"It hurts to make this choice, but I've given my reasons. I'm reminded of a sign on my parents' refrigerator, 'Don't explain; your friends don't need it, and your enemies won't believe you anyway.'"
UPDATE: The official statement from her office:
Governor Sarah Palin announced today that she will not seek a second term as Governor of the State of Alaska and will relegate the power of governor to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell in order to serve Alaskas best interests. Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will move into Parnells current role.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska, said Governor Palin. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.
Standing outside her home in Wasilla, Alaska, Governor Palin reflected upon some of the administrations accomplishments for Alaska as she approaches her final year in office.
I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is not the easiest path, said Governor Palin after the announcement. Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success. I look forward to helping others to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops, and energy independence.
The transfer of power will occur following the Governors picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. At that point in time, Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will be sworn in and Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume his role as Lieutenant Governor.
did she leave out a verb or was the transcript corrupt?
Good for her. I’m still with her. Screw Romney and the other RINOs in the GOP.
Have heart my Freeper friends....this is the best news I have heard in days......Sarah is answering the call, and doing it the right way....
She will now be free to travel the country and speak to all comers....she cannot be accused of ignoring her job as govenor, which is totally fine for democrats but unacceptable to people with integrity....
Have heart and say your prayers to protect Sarah on her very dangerous journey.....
Its just one more piece of bad news after another. Unreal.
No question in my mind she’ll be running in 2012.
The eunuchs in Obama’s state run “media” are absolutely ecstatic right now! This will be their “best 4th of July ever!”
She also set up the Lt. Gov. for a run for election as the incumbent.
If it weren't for the fact it rules our lives I'd say let the nightcrawlers and slimeballs have it.
talk about declaring your independence !
Good for Gov Palin .. and best of luck to her in whatever path she chooses from now on.
So is she hitting the campaign trail full time, then? If so, watch out!
Probably a transcript error given how quickly this developed. It was kind of unnerving watching her - she seemed to be about to lose it and throwing a temper tantrum. I can’t believe she was nearly VP. I sympathize with her though, it’s easy to see how the pressure got to her given the demands of her family.
I hope your right Wizard..I hope this isn’t the last we see of the Gov
arahs brother tells FOX that shes been spending too much time defending herself against alleged ethics violations.
Bad precedent IMHO. With this development, any Democrat who does not want a GOP candidate to become successful can concoct alleged violation after violation until you tire of the whole thing.
Hillary was in the same boat before but had more cash and outside support to defend herself. Plus Hillary has less shame.
Who is going to be the next Dem target of “ethics violation” ? Bobby Jindal ? Mitch Daniels ?
No way is she running.
She is putting her family first and getting out.
Notice how it mentions the mockery of Trig in this piece.
Imagine if the Obama girls were photoshopped the way they did to trig.
I hate the left with a white hot passion that cannot be described.
Good for her and her family. She’s a sweet lady.
Kraut and the Brie Chablis Repubs must be so proud of themselves. He got exactly what he wanted.
Pray for America
So concludes the media and the Liberal public pilloring of a real Conservative woman.
Congrats....this is what America has become.
It’s not taking any time for the naysayers to come out against her....BO followers wants Mitt Romney...Doesn’t think this will help her.....Watch em sweat!
Independence Day. Good for her.
Bad move IMHO. Being a governor of a state gave her credibility. A second term would have solidified that. Giving it up after 3 years is foolish in my opinion. She will still have a platform and shell be able to travel the lower 48, but quitting the governorship will confirm most peoples doubts that she is too inexperienced to run for president.
If she has been talking this over with God, then that's all I need to know. If that's what the Lord wants, then that's the way it should be. God bless Sarah and her family. God bless America!
(Vanity) Sarah Palin Scenarios: Advantages and Disadvantages of her Political Aspirations
She can now devote full time to campaigning for house and senate candidates who support the former Constitution.
She has just improved, significantly, the probability of retaking the house and eliminating the 60-vote hangman's noose in the senate.
What’s the bad news? She’s probably running for president. Now that she’s not the governor, she’s free to leave the state and attend rallies, fundraisers and meetings. Go change your pajamas.
Sounds to me like a call to arms. I think she’s going to do her darndest to affect the 2010 elections with her PAC, and then probably going to go for the Oval Office in 2012. She can’t do that effectively as a sitting governor.
Gutsy move, IMHO. Three and a half years is an eternity in Presidential Politics. Remember when Hillary was the shoo-in for the Democratic nomination?
My advice to everyone is to quit panicking (or celebrating) this moment of political theater, and work tirelessly towards the defeat of the Statists, regardless of what political party they belong to.
She also set up the Lt. Gov. for a run for election as the incumbent.
Or she believes that right now she would better serve as a shadow-president rallying the troops to get conservatives voted into office.
We haven’t even seen a quarter of what’s in her. She’ll be the key for many elections in 2010 and she’ll come out with blazing guns. The Rinocrats think this day belongs to them, but tommorrow will be ours.
She also set up the Lt. Gov. for a run for election as the incumbent.
She put Alaska and her constituents ahead of herself.
Unlike Democrats who only put themselves first.
I think this is a measure of the corruption within the RNC.
I honestly wish her the best of luck, and peace to her family, in private life. No family deserved to go through what they've been put through the last 9 months.
But a wise political move this is not, and it's a horrible loss for the nation - on it's birthday, of all times.
LOL!
This is a brilliant move by Sarah, mark my words. Just as in years past when Ronald Reagan worked for GE and toured the entire nation talking to the plant workers and the people of America, now Sarah can do the same. She can campaign for Republican candidates across the land, raise cash, raise money for her family and the party and just meet and greet. It’s a brilliant move. Brilliant!
......Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose.”
___________________________________________________________
I can see the logic there. She, as a lame duck politician would be open to harsh criticism from the libtards and MSM. She is a moving target that is unconventional and unpredictable. I predict that the left is going to be more scared of her now than ever before.
Don’t explain; your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe you anyway.
Pretty wise words.
Prayer??? Wait til the beltway and NYTIMES types finds out she “prayed” about this!
The moron on MSNBC has already called her career “over”...
...she’s going to lead the great middle class on a crusade...against Obama’s form of communism.
Good advice.
Kinda’ makes me wish GW Bush resigned and transferred power due to his lame duck status prior to the TARP disaster.
I don't see this as a bad thing at all, and it deprives her opponents, from all ‘sides’, of many avenues of attack and ammunition for those attacks. In any case, she was going to be continually harassed and this may actually give her some breathing room.
“...shes going to lead the great middle class on a crusade...against Obamas form of communism.”
I hope you are right. Would be great if she came out with a fiery call to arms (not literally).
Heck, we need a leader of the Tea Party movement who can get face time and can draw crowds.
The wicked Left is fantasing about a scandal. Or perhaps, Palin got a cushy job as spokesman for the NRA or National Right to Life.
You are correct.
Look for her to raise her public profile and go on the offensive for the next two years.
Palin in 2012!
