“If laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have settled for part-time work are included, the unemployment rate would have been 16.5 percent in June, the highest on records dating to 1994.”
That’s the critical piece right there. Good job, zer0. Thanks for all the effing hope and change.

If the triple whammy of Cap and Tax, ObieCare and other tax hikes come to pass, double-digit (or near-double-digit) unemployment will be a chronic presence in our economy, just like Europe.

Sad part of all this is we could be well on the way to true recovery, had the feds sliced taxes across the board. It would’ve cost a fraction of Porkulus and it would’ve immediate caused a needed influx of dollars (EXISTING, not NEWLY PRINTED) dollars into the economy.
But, alas, it’s not the liberal way.

People, people... This can't be right! obama
promised us that without porkus unemployment would top 9 percent. However, if we (ie. our gullible foolish Congress) would pass porkus, why then it wouldn't top 8 percent. ;-/
Surely obama wasn't lying? (ha!) Surely he knows what he's doing (ha!)...

Mainstream media will say this proves Obama’s plan is working, as the rate “should” have gone to 9.6%...now it is only 9.5%.
What they’ll ignore is Obama’s assertion that if the stimulus DID pass (which it did), unemployment would not rise above 8%.
To: Red in Blue PA
Curious numbers:
Expected job losses: 363,000
Actual job losses: 467,000
Expected unemployment rate: 9.6%
Reported unemployment rate: 9.5%
So we lose 103,000 more jobs than expected, and the unemployment rate goes up less than expected? Looks like the White House "removed" some workers from the pool again (or else "created or saved" several thousand jobs)....

Companies are expected to keep shedding jobs through the rest of this year, but economists hope the pace will continue to taper off.
Eventually they will just go under.
I retired last year but my former employer
had to let half the workforce go in order to keep
a skeleton crew on. Now they are at reduced hours at
a four day week, I honestly don’t know how he is keeping
the doors open.
I cannot help but feel this whole mess would have been over by now with a different person in the White house.

And when cap & trade makes this even worse, Hussein will give the Jimmy Carter explanation: our best days are behind us, this is the economy of the future, we're just going to have to live with this because that's how things are, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.....

Does unemployment wrap around back to 0? Perhaps -2bama’s plan is to get it up really high, like 98%, 99%.. and then it will go back to 0. Of course, his economic advisors will recommend he continues a bit beyond 0, to a comfortable 4 or 5%.
