Former Republican Sen. John E. Sununu announced Wednesday he will not run for New Hampshires open Senate seat in 2010, forcing Republicans to continue their search for a top flight candidate.
Representing New Hampshire in the United States Senate is a great honor, but effective public service is much more than just a desire to hold office, Sununu said in a statement.

This isn’t a surprise. Sununu just lost a grueling election in 2008 and had taken a high-paying job in DC.
Republicans, if they have any sense, will ask Steve Merrill to run.
It doesn’t matter how unpopular Obama or the Democrat congress becomes if the GOP is unable to recruit decent candidates... and to also be able to push bad ones out of the way (like Bunning)
.
Unless Judd Gregg reconsiders.
Sununu passed on? Wow, I wonder if there’s something in the air lately.
Sununu is still alive. He just doesn’t want to run for elective office again.
Another potential Demo pickup. Also, KY unless Bunning drops out. Times are still tough for GOP.
N.H. is really becoming just like , where Republicans continuously don’t win any of the major political offices anymore, and, in fact, the entire U.S. is also moving politically into permanent “just leftists all of the time and for a very long time” territory.
“N.H. is really becoming just like Massachusetts” is what I’m saying in my above post.
It was an attempt at humor.
NH has gone to the dark side. I doubt you will see another Repub. or Conservative elected to the US House/Senate from NH in the next 20 years ... if ever.
NH is following Massachusetts down the excrement hole.
Oh, sorry. I was listening to songs on Youtube while pinging. Count me embarrassed.
My family doesn’t get most of my jokes either. ;^)
Ayotte isn’t an uber-RINO. She angered the pro-abort crowd when she successfully argued in favor of the state’s parental consent laws for minors seeking abortions.
You have that exactly right.
Too bad too, we really need more states like our once great New Hampshire. But, as New England goes , so goes NH. The moonbats make such filthy messes of their own nests in their own states they can’t live in with it, move to ours and filthy it to fit their filthy neediness. Disgusting.
Its our fault for letting the twits get into our education system in the first place. Now we’ve raised a generation of utter fascist idiots.
My voting ballots from now on are going to read NO, NO and NO.
NO to the politicians.
NO to the teachers.
NO to the town.
Well, that might be one for Ayotte, but she is still a RINO.
I’m done voting for them. Either way, we’re headed for a train wreck anyway. Whether a RINO gets in or a full-fledged authoritarian statist like your average Demo, we’re doomed.
I’m just not going to help them along. Done.
Steve Merrill could win. Kelly Ayotte could win. Paul Hodes is a dud. How hard can it be to bring that point home?
Meant that last comment to go to LDSentinal.
I don’t think voting for parental rights making it mandatory for parents to be notified if their 13-year-old daughters wants get an abortion is particularly brave.
Parents should be notified. Who to heck would even propose a bill like that? Why would a bill get so far in our legislature?
What about Rep. Dan Itse??
COULD DO WORSE..
What about Rep. Dan Itse??
COULD DO WORSE..
I hope Merill runs. Although Kelly Ayotte might be good.
Which one of those Sununus stuck us with Souter? Was it the father or the son? Either way, what they call Republicans in NH I call marxists.
It was the father who did that.
“and discuss the benefits of eminent domain and how you both pulled the wool over’
I guess that is why I’m a tad suspicious of Palin even, didn’t she use that to build a Civic Center?
I’m at the point I don’t trust anyone anymore, the country has gone down the tubes never to return I fear.
Do we have evidence as to Ayotte’s RINOism? I thought NH’s AGs were appointed, so they don’t run for the office.
Same with Merril. Can someone inform me about his issue positions?
Steve Merrill is a strong conservative. He was twice cited as the most fiscally responsible Governor in the country by the CATO Institute during the 1990’s.
I don’t know much about Ayotte.
