ust as many North Texans are flying U.S. flags in anticipation of the Fourth of July, vandals are torching them in a far North Dallas neighborhood.
A far North Dallas man says all that remains of his flags is a pile of charred fabric.
A pile of charred fabric is all that remains of the two flags that once flew outside Ed Jordan's house in a quaint cul-de-sac off Spring Valley and Preston roads.
"I think this border might have been the American flag," Jordan said as he sifted through the scorched remains.
On Friday, he hung a flag honoring his country and a flag honoring the Marine Corps he once served in. But he came home Monday to find a bare flagpole and singed shrubs, he said.
"It takes a pretty low-minded person to do something like that," Jordan said.
Vandals also burned the flag of a neighbor.
Dallas police are investigating both cases as arson.
Jordan, who has flown flags for 12 years, said he has never had a problem until now. He said he wasn't sure if the burnings were a prank or someone trying to make a political statement.
"I really would have given them the flags if thats what they wanted, but I dont think thats what they wanted," he said. "They wanted to destroy."
But Jordan said the vandals have not destroyed his patriotic spirit.
"Im not angry," he said. "Im going to get other flags and put them out there again."
Sounds like one of those new “hope and change” things.
My flag will be covered by a 30.06 this Fourth of July. America ain’t dead yet.
Well, it can be deduced that kids did it since they are out of school right now, and that they appear to be bored...
Obviously it is pretty easy to figure this one out...
About all you can do is buy another one and fly it...Keep your eyes and ears peeled...Kids that do stuff like this can’t stand not saying somethign about it...
Eventually they’ll get caught...
Put a pitt bull in the yard.
Grandpappy told my pappy: “Back in my day, son,
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done.
Take all the rope in Texas, find a tall oak tree,
Round up all of them bad boys, hang them high in the street,
For all the people to see,”
do it
That might be cruel for the dog...It might get stolen or abused...
I don’t underestimate the shear stupidity or tenacious cruelty of kids these days to seeing a direct challenge to their mischief...
We were once kids too...The potential today has few boundaries...
You’re right about the dog. Geese or peacocks would be better, except the noise might drive the neighbors nuts!
Some neighbors need to be goosed every now and then to be eyes and ears in the community...Sorry for the pun...
We cannot do this all by ourselves sometimes...
Under Texas law you have the right to protect your property and your life.
If some fool tries torching the flag attached to my house the cops are going to need a shovel to scoop what is left of them into a garbage bag.
If you catch them doing it, especially at night. Kill them.
Cant get any better than Geese, we used to have 4 and NO one dare entered the property without us knowing about it. We had a funny episode happen with a car full of Jehovah witnesses one time they pulled in and started to get out then the attack started never saw anything so funny as these people stepping over themselves trying to get back into the car, strange they never came back.
Sounds like the ostammerites are feeling their oats.
Maybe Texans need to teach them some manners.
