FAIRVIEW, N.J. For five years, immigrant day laborer Leo Chamale wired money twice a month from New Jersey to his family in Guatemala. Recently, he stepped up to the money transfer window for a different purpose to ask that his family send some of his savings back to him.
"I hadn't worked for five months, and I was two months behind on rent, so I had them send $1,500," the 21-year-old Chamale said in Spanish. "My mother said, `That's a lot of money!'"
With the U.S. economy in a ditch, money transfer agencies have been reporting a decline in the wages immigrants are sending back to their home countries. Now, it appears some immigrants are going a step further asking their relatives to wire them money back.

"I was forced to ask for money from home during the winter months," he said. "After that, I said to myself, `That's it I'm heading back to my country.'"

Immigrants in US are asking for money from home
Why don’t they just ask Bammy? He’s got plenty and hell, he can always print more!
yep, it is a shame.
I hope as many of them self deport as possible. It’s the only way we’ll get out of this because we pay more in taxes for their health care than we get back in terms of “cheap prices” for their unskilled labour.
Zero will find a way to fix/tax that.
Have no fear.
before long, Americans will be flooding to Mexico to find a better life and it be the Mexicans who be building the fence and kicking Americans out. Anti-American sentiment will run rampant in Mexico
How terrible.
We should get them on unemployment. After all, they’re just like American Citizens except they shouldn’t be here.
This section will surely cause some of the Statists to get all weepy-
“”The ability of, let’s say, a Mexican family or a Nepalese family to be able to send dollar remittances to maintain somebody to pay for living expenses in the U.S. or in Europe is very weak, because they are very poor,” Ratha said. “And the savings that are there of the migrants are also not very significant in most cases so those savings will run out very quickly.”
Standing on a street corner a recent morning in Palisades Park, looking for work, Chamale said he is now hoping to earn just enough for a plane ticket home.”
Plane ticket? The Autobus Mexicanos station has wire transfer right there at the ticket window.
Immigrants? How about illegal border crosser and welfare sponges?
” `That’s it I’m heading back to my country.’”
With any luck he will take all his friends with him!
Here is my take. GO HOME!
I always said our side won’t build it until they fubared everything and we’re trying to escape.
Why don’t they just go home and use their money there.
I’ve got a question that I’d love to ask Leo. If you want to be on the “path to citizenship” so bad, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SENDING ALL OF YOUR MONEY TO GUATEMALA? Today we vote, tomorrow we go home and retire in luxuary with a ****load of American dollars?
That’s odd. It’s still the same number of people in front of the Home Depot here on Sunset.
ping
Same here...
I wonder if we can get the Home Depot’s to trim back the shade trees some more...
Breaking my heart.
Unfortunately, that's only half the story.
I, too, hope they self deport. I hope all of the illegal, scumbag, government teat suckers and wasters of my tax dollars self deport. The real problem, IMHO, is how do we prevent them from coming back?
Interesting.
I hope they give up after they spend a bundle here and go home.
