Obama creates a deadly power vacuum
Asia Times ^ | 6/29/09 | Spengler

There's a joke about a man who tells a psychiatrist, "Everybody hates me," to which the psychiatrist responds, "That's ridiculous - everyone doesn't know you, yet." Which brings me to Barack Obama: one of the best-informed people in the American security establishment told me the other day that the president is a "Manchurian Candidate".

That can't be true - Manchuria isn't in the business of brainwashing prospective presidential candidates any more. There's no one left to betray America to. Obama is creating a strategic void in which no major power will dominate, and every minor power must fend for itself. The outcome is incalculably hard to analyze and terrifying to consider.

Obama doesn't want to betray the United States; he only wants to empower America's enemies. Forcing Israel to abandon its strategic buffer (the so-called settlements) was supposed to placate Iran, so that Iran would help America stabilize Iraq, where its influence looms large over the Shi'ite majority.

America also sought Iran's help in suppressing the Taliban in Afghanistan. In Obama's imagination, a Sunni Arab coalition - empowered by Washington's turn against Israel - would encircle Iran and dissuade it from acquiring nuclear weapons, while an entirely separate Shi'ite coalition with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization would suppress the radical Sunni Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This was the worst-designed scheme concocted by a Western strategist since Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery attacked the bridges at Arnhem in 1944, and it has blown up in Obama's face.

I think Mr Spengler gives Obama more credit than he deserves in imagining that Obama constructed a strategy designed to achieve American goals in the Middle East that have simply blown up in his face because of their amateurish nature. The truth, I’m afraid, is far worse than that.

I don’t think the obamessiah CREATED the vacuum so much as it formed around him because of his innate emptiness. I would venture to say that he has never avtually created anything in his life.

It is s a bit late to offer advice to Obama, but the worst thing America can do is to apologize.

Take a look around -- everything Obama is doing basically qualifies as "the worst thing he could do".

Terrible economic problems caused by massive debt? -- I know! Let's borrow a few trillion!
Our oldest ally in the Middle East is under pressure? -- I know! Let's undercut them by meddling in their affairs!
Our greatest enemy in the Middle East is rocked by a pro-democracy movement? -- I know! Let's back off and discourage meddling in anyone's affairs!
There are no sunspots, and the earth is cooling? -- I know! Let's bankrupt the country in a useless attempt to stop the warming!
Health care is far too expensive? -- I know! Let's increase the role that government plays!

No one can be this dumb. He's doing it on purpose.

It only makes sense if you assume that he and his minions want America to lose as much power and influence in the world as they can accomplish before they are thrown out of office.

Luckily it's just a power vacuum - that limits it's manueverability and portability. Imagine if he had created a deadly hand vacuum!

There is a huge “power vacuum” when there is no leader of the free world.

I guess I am sounding like a broken record on this one, but WHY did any of our intelligence agencies..FBI,CIA,DIA,NSA who HAD to know the REAL truth about Odumbamarxist sit by and not leak a word about him????

We had a silent coup... How many people failed to uphold their oath to protect and defend the constitution by not stopping it?

What did Odumbaminijad have on the Clintons that caused her to back down and shut up?

How could someone we know so little about have been elected??

Where is a coherent opposition?? Have we been abandoned??

Long article, great read.

Obama's policy reduces to empowering America's enemies in the hope that they will conform to American interests out of gratitude.

That's certainly true with respect to Iran. It is absolutely baffling how 0bama continues to pave a path for Iranian self-interest while hoping earnestly that they will diverge from it for some reason. Every cogent motivation against their nuclear weapons programs has been systematically withdrawn, including an insistence that their elections be fair. We will have unconditional talks. We will validate Ahmadinejad. We will ignore the blood in the streets. We will prevent Israel from acting in her interests. If Ahmadinejad's reply is "Thanks, sucker!" one can only admit that he has much clearer idea of what he's about than 0bama and his gaggle of fools.

What has happened is that the hyperventilating posturing of domestic politics has been mistaken for fact by its perpetrators. So much time and effort was spent in painting Bush as evil and linking him with war and oppression that the latter were expected to disappear as soon as the former left office. This by people old enough to know better. And with a truly delicious irony they've taken the names of "realist" and "reality-based" unto their little fantasy train. It would be high comedy watching their humiliation if it didn't also argue to get a lot of our friends killed.

Goldman rightly points out - the World was able to enjoy rapid economic development after the collapse of the Soviet Union and their world-wide destabilization. As he mentioned, the “global south” was free to pursue their own interests (and self-Government)

When/Why did the Civil Wars in Central America end in 1991-93?
When/Why did Pinochet agree to give up power?
When/Why did Apartheid end in South Africa?

0bama does what he’s told. He reads, remember.

Nefarious is not a strong enough word to express the nature of his appointees and advisers. And, those who fund him.

Being willing to pay for the destruction of a country and control money was not thought to apply to the leader of the free world, however.

I have a question that’s been nagging me. What does it take to cause an emotional breakdown in a malignant narcissist? What is the tipping point for a meltdown? Or are they so self-possessed and “cool” that absolutely nothing would really affect their internal machinations? How much pressure is TOO much? Are MN’s able to compartmentalize so effectively that they are incapable of deconstructing?

“What does it take to cause an emotional breakdown in a malignant narcissist?”

I am no expert on the subject, however I doubt O is capable of an emotional breakdown... he is so sure he is absolutely right about everything that the thought he might be wrong would never cross his mind.
