How did W "get rid" of O'Connor?
Didn't he put Alito on AFTER he tried to put Meiers on?
Didn't he put Alito on AFTER he tried to put Meiers on?
Bush wasn't perfect, [unlike some Freepers WHO are perfect conservatives]
Saying that, Things under W were much better off than under Obama. W's dud nomination of Meiers; even though she was a bad choice, was still a much better choice than Obama's dud nomination of Sotomayer.
These days, I dream of having the show run by W again.
Meiers was a red herring. Come on. It was never a serious choice. Let them fight over a ghost candidate and then send them a live one. Bush used reverse psych on many issues where you might think he was for, but was really against, because he knew that ANYTHING he was FOR would be fought tooth and nail....like amnesty, for instance. He stuck his face in the camera while OVERSEAS and said, “See you at the signing.”
He knew how to rile conservatives and make them mad enough to get off their butts.
He knew exactly what the response would be.
And he did this many times throughout his presidency with dems after the SCOTUS screwed him on McCain/Feingold.
I have never seen a more underestimated president, and he used it to his advantage and blew his opposition away.
