The Los Angeles Police robbery and homicide division has been assigned to investigate the death of Michael Jackson, department officials said today.
"There is no immediate indication of a crime," a police official told ABC News, "but because of the high profile nature of the case the robbery and homicide detectives with review all evidence and work with the coroner's office."
Los Angeles police were reported to be seeking a doctor who was with Jackson when he collapsed yesterday at his rented mansion in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles.
The LAPD is also reportedly searching for a doctor who may be able to help in their investigation. Police say that they towed a BMW owned by the doctor from Jackson's home.
"We have not been able to interview the doctor yet. His car was impounded because it may contain medications or other evidence that may assist the coroner in determining the cause of death," said LAPD spokesperson Karen Rayner.
The Los Angeles coroner began an autopsy this morning although it could take several days before full results are known.
A Jackson family attorney, Brian Oxman, told ABC News today he had no hard evidence but that he feared Jackson died from "overmedications." On Good Morning America, Oxman said, "Drugs had been part of Jackson's life since the 1980's" and said he had warned family members that "if Jackson dies of overmedication I will not hold my tongue."

And I'm sitting on my couch thinking, "Does anyone out there believe that? Anyone? Bueller?"
I thought Jackson was living with his Mooslim Overlords?
They are saying now it was food poisoning.....
(sorry the punchline would get me banned).
A LOT of Mikey’s “friends” are about to cash in and make some BIG BUCKS from the demise of “the King of Pop.”
It doesn’t look like anyone is holding their tongue when it comes to Jackson. Good grief...
Can’t we just plant this guy and be done with it.
Call in the FAA! Maybe Jackson crashed because of a pitot tube problem!
Another waste of LAPD manpower.
I hear they’ve assigned three detectives... and sixty-seven lawyers to negotiate the media contracts.
He sleeps with the fishes - report at 11...
Could be a major kreplach.
Excerpt:
The star had been visiting a Beverly Hills medical center frequently in recent weeks, although the reason is unknown.
It has been claimed Michael was taking a cocktail of up to seven prescription drugs, including anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Zoloft and painkiller Demerol, prompting speculation he may have suffered an accidental overdose, causing respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
Brian Oxman, who has been the Jackson family’s attorney, said: “I have warned of the use of medications, in Michael’s case I said that if this is going to be the result of the tragedy that we’re now seeing that I was going to speak up loud and clear.”
Speaking from the hospital, Brian said: “Inside it was chaotic for a time and then it was absolute silence. And no one will say what has happened, I’ve been asked not to say what has happened. I only know that I am heartbroken.
“This was something which I feared and something which I warned about.”

Have investigators located his missing nose?
It was posted at Comcast News that his personal doctors car has been towed for investigation by LAPD.
We may be seeing another “drug enabled” death a la Elvis Presley here.....
I understand he once placed a call to Boyz-2-Men, thinking it was a delivery service ... [rimshot] Folks, I’ll be here all week ... try the veal and be sure to tip your waitress.
Some in the LAPD and court system seem to like the Hollywood limelight (what with reality tv programming) as much as the celebrities do.
Can’t write a book without exclusive access.
Heath Ledger disease
In fact, it looks like a replay of the Anna Nicole Smith situation. Her doctors were prosecuted.
Jackson insiders say Michael’s situation was worse than hers. So expect the doctor to get thrown in the slammer.
The doctor ran, so apparently he is expecting the boom to fall.
It took a couple of years to get James Brown buried. This case will go on and on.

Yesterday they were saying he wanted to be embalmed and placed on display in New York. At least that’s what I think they were saying.
We have such a sick populace, I wouldn’t be surprised to seem them do it.
As I recall that was the major news article on the Drudge Report.
That was 9/10/01.
Needless to say it was taken off the headlines the next day.
Interesting...
The world has gone crazy... Michael Jackson crazy... :-)
My first thought when I heard he died was: “what operation was he undergoing this time?” Does this mean that LaToya died too? Figured she was Michael in drag since they could pass for each other in looks.
My neighbor (in his 40s) died of a massive heart attack, but until the coroner ruled on the cause of death, the police treated his home like a crime scene - yellow tape and everything. I don't know if that happens all the time - his body was found in the threshold between the house and garage - but, it certainly happened in his case.
The police searched the home, took pictures and interviewed all of his neighbors and friends, FWIW.
With the Body Worlds moneymaker, there certainly is a market for it.
And his interest in the Elephant Man’s bones could fuel that rumor.
According to DRUDGE, the personal doctor had gone missing.
Yes, I agree.
According to LAPD, the doctor has NOT gone missing.
I told my husband last night that two things stood out to me in all the news stories. First, there were reports that he was not ready for this big London summer tour. He had not been rehearsing, the show was not completely choreographed and the first week was already being postponed.
Second, at the beginning of the year, MJ was given a thorough physical for insurance purposes. The investors in this summer’s shows wanted him insured so that they would not lose their money if he didn’t perform. According to reports, MJ had no heart or other medical problems that would prevent him from being insured.
Now, I am not normally a conspiracy nut, but I must say that I see a possible connection between those two things.
Homicide is on the case because MJ has been surrounded for years by enablers and yes men.
If MJ died of a drug overdose, legal or illegal, people will be going down.
Best guess it was an overdose of medication. Question is, who was the enabler suppliers?
Shades of Anna Nicole here.
That's why I never order the "Cream of Sum Yung Gai".
Possibly so. But look around at the situation. It's not like they've got any choice. Like it or not this one is right up there with Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and such.
The full circus hasn't even gotten to town yet.
Why waste the money, just send him to the local land fill!
The well known chinese dish kreemofsumynggai
why not get deputy chief brenda lee johnson and her crew from THE CLOSER to investigate. it’s a media circus anyway.
they should, at the very least, arrest the doctor for STUPIDITY for performing CPR on a freeking bed “for some time” before the paramedics got there
same thing happened in Anna Nicole Smith case.
who are these idiots running around with medical licenses?
Oh my.......Your pushing too hard

Dr. Nik?
The more that has been leaked out, today....this is looking more and more like an ‘Elvis’ or ‘Anna Nicole’. jmo

The doc, allegedly, holds a med license for two other states....but NOT Kalifornia.
I’ll take accidental drug overdose for $1000, Alex. News peeps were saying this morning he had a long history of painkiller abuse. Only a matter of time.
Too much bleach and the plastic was probably recalled from China.
Twelve year old nuts...?
My guess is that there are some meds involved. He was either prescribed too high a dose, took too much or failed to take meds. It’s hard to say.
It’s also very sad how his life turned out, how a cute, talented kid became such a freak, but the father Joe Jackson really royally messed up those kids. I think Jermaine is the only sane one.
