Obama a fan of 'the great Urdu poets'
Politico ^ | 6-22-09 | Ben Smith

Posted on 06/22/2009 8:05:33 PM PDT by STARWISE

The fact that President Obama had good Pakistani friends at (struck out) Columbia (end strikeout) in college was one that was basically kept out of his campaign on the theory that anything with any connection to Islam would feed a viral rumor the campaign was trying to kill.

Now, though, it's another useful diplomatic tool, as in his interview with Dawn this weekend:

‘Any plan to visit Pakistan in the near future?’

‘I would love to visit. As you know, I had Pakistani roommates in college who were very close friends of mine. I went to visit them when I was still in college; was in Karachi and went to Hyderabad. Their mothers taught me to cook,’ said Mr Obama.

‘What can you cook?’

‘Oh, keema … daal … You name it, I can cook it. And so I have a great affinity for Pakistani culture and the great Urdu poets.’

‘You read Urdu poetry?’

‘Absolutely. So my hope is that I’m going to have an opportunity at some point to visit Pakistan,’ said Mr Obama.

Listen to THIS poet, Barry:

POEM FOR THE ROOFTOPS OF IRAN - INCREDIBLY MOVING

George Bush's legacy and fight endures in the Mid East, despite, and in spite of Obama, and THAT is Obama's real dilema.

It was George Bush's policy of direct engagement and support of liberty that has led to the people of Iran seeing the measure of freedom now established on both sides of them in Iraq and Afghjanistan...and desiring it for themselves.

Obama cannot possibly go too far in recognizing that, or he absolutely repudiates himself and his entire foreign policy.

...but the fight in Iran is far from over, and is getting brutal.

Yeah, something to which all Americans can relate, snowbama; i.e., like these Urdu poets K-O. Does that just warm the cockles of your heart ?

We are truly in an alien, alternate universe.

Sure, he's untrustworthy, and SURE he might be a cryptoMuzzie, but a regular reader of URDU POETRY...? Oh please...!

The left feels a MUCH greater pressure above all to appear SMART. Honesty and character, uhh...those are quaint, but above all...? BE SMART..! So he cooks up this crap...

Reminds me of that old Dan Rather story:v He was breathlessly interviewing some conservative, and ole Dan was blathering about how great Russia and communism is, and about HOW SMART he was:

"Have you read any of the great Russian authors...?"

"Uh...well, I read 'The Brothers Karamazov, does that count..?"

"Yes, yes, but have you read any Dostoyevsky..?!"

BUT SEE, YOU FAKER IDIOT LIAR FOOL, DAN, DOSTOYEVKSKY IS THE *AUTHOR* OF THAT VERY BOOK...!!

Dan Rather made himself out to be this big intellectual, but he's a lying fake, and THIS GUY IS ALSO

What a classic political whore: he tried to deny any connection to Islam & decried those who asserted such during the campaign just to get elected but now that he is elected [ selected ] to office he will use his Islamic connections as a convenient diplomatic tool.

So now he’s admitting that after only 5-6 years in Indonesia as a child, a couple of Pakistani roommates, and only 3 weeks in Pakistan, he can actually still read Urdu ? Is it believable that’s possible without his continued exposure, speaking and reading the language regularly as an adult ?

But during the election we weren't allowed to know it

He's kissing up to mullahs

Taxing us up our hoolahs

One of the comments at Politico:

Here's a wonderful little poem written by the Messiah himself: Under water grottos, caverns Filled with apes That eat figs. Stepping on the figs That the apes Eat, they crunch. The apes howl, bare Their fangs, dance, Tumble in the Rushing water, Musty, wet pelts Glistening in the blue. by Barack Hussein Obama

LOL

I am trying to imagine under what circumstances Lyndon Johnson would have told people he is a fan of Urdu poetry, but I can't. My mind rejects the notion and will simply not go there. BO was sold to the American people, and the American people bought a pig in a poke. As I have mentioned before, we are so screwed.

David Frum: BO's Cairo speech offered "the amazing spectacle of an American president taking an equidistant position between the country he leads and its detractors and enemies."

I’d say it’s a little left of equidistant.

"... apes That eat figs. Stepping on the figs ..."

Did Obama really write that? The fig is a common symbol for Israel.

Of course they do not speak Urdu in Indonesia, only in Pakistan and India, since Urdu is essentially Hindi, written with Arabic characters.

I’ve seen that poem attributed to zero by several different sources so I figure it’s his actual poem. I had NO idea about the figs being a symbol for Israel but it would hardly be surprising given his background.

"Pockistan ping."

How come Obama says "Pock-ee-stahn?"

Because that's the way THEY say it?

He doesn't say "EE-tahl-yah" for Italy or "Frawhhns" for France or "Nippon" for Japan, or "Doytch-lahnd for Germany.

Heck, he doesn't even say "Hahvud in "Bah-stun," or "Tixuz", or "Kaintuck-ee" or "Norluns."

He reads Urdu? That’s pretty good, akin to Hindi, a Hindi speaker can understand Urdu and vice versa, its most distinctive feature is the Arabic script.

And he can cook dal and keema? Man!
