Britain's Foreign Office said Monday it was evacuating the families of staff based in Iran amid continued violence in the wake of the country's disputed election.
The decision came after repeated criticism of Britain by Iranian leaders, and an increasingly tense atmosphere following angry clashes between demonstrators and security officials.
Staff will remain in Iran for now, and the Foreign Office confirmed that it was not advising other British nationals to leave. However, it said officials are monitoring the situation with the utmost vigilance.
"The families of our staff have been unable to carry out their lives as usual. As a result, we are withdrawing the dependents of embassy staff," a Foreign Office spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity in line with policy.

Probably a good idea.
So they’re afraid that the ruling clerics can no longer protect them.
Thanks Perdogg.
Gosh, they don’t really think that the Islamic radicals in Iran would harm or detain embassy personnel do they? I mean what would they base that on?
Maybe its time for the Royal Navy to grovel again.
Smart move.
At least the Brits won’t have to wait 444 days to get their citizens back as we did in 1979, thanks to Carter, that spineless p*ssy.
Now, get OUR people out of harms way!
The Royal Navy didn’t avenge the loss of its rigid-hulled dingy and the kidnapping of 12 crew due to restrictive ROE agreed with the United States.
Meanwhile that same United States is now planning hot-dog dinners for Iranian officials, celebrating a “How’s the bloody repression going” party on the 4th July.
These diplotmats and staff will hopefully provide a solid account of what’s really happening in Iran right now. The details regarding the real situation (arrests, deaths, brutality) are sketchy at best. Also, the twits I’ve been reading regarding Iran indicate that Friday will be the day that Iran cuts off relations with the UK, so this exodus seems warranted.
Iran must be on the road to peace again... /s
Iranian leaders hate the Brits - well, it’s probably more like they’re so jealous of them that they can’t see straight... Brits have class - something all the oil in the ME won’t buy.
