An Indian immigrant says his son was forced to violate Hindu dietary rules by eating a beef taco at a Cincinnati public school.
Ashish Gandhi has filed a complaint with the U.S. Justice Department alleging religious discrimination, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Sunday. Gandhi, who says a school employee force-fed the taco to his son, called it an "intentional act of religious bigotry" by the Academy of World Languages.
Gary Winters, a lawyer for the Cincinnati Public Schools, says the 5-year-old boy selected the taco himself.
"At most, there was an error made on a single occasion, for which CPS's personnel and administrators have repeatedly apologized to Mr. Gandhi," he wrote.
The academy offers classes in English as a second language as well as a large number of other languages. Gandhi claims the school denied his son the services normally given non-English-speaking students.
Gandhi has transferred his son to a neighborhood school.
O.K. who initially thought this article was about some new superhero?
Go back to India or homeschool your kid.
We’re Christians and we homeschool ours.
Don’t expect us to go crying for you.
Leave us alone.
Tort reform! Loser pays!
Did someone sit on the kid and jam the taco down his throat?
‘Cause if not, he wasn’t forced. Wrong word, writer man.
“Gandhi has transferred his son to a neighborhood school.”
We have no school choice based on acadamic standards, but we do have school choice based on dietary standards.
Priorities are F.U.B.A.R.
He got off easy if beef was all that was crammed down his throat in a public school.
Oh, please, he didn’t have to make a federal case outta it.
At least there are relatively few Indians causing nonsense like this.
"At most, there was an error made on a single occasion, ...
When an absolute statement is followed up with "At most..." that usually means the first statement was a CYA lie. Add to that "a lawyer says."
“An Indian immigrant says his son was forced to violate Hindu dietary rules by eating a beef taco at a Cincinnati public school.”
If the public school systems around the country would worry less about offending everybody’s lunch preferences and worry about the fact nobody can spell their own name correctly....
That’s nothing, imagine if sent his son to school with peanut butter.
Now get the hell out of our country!
How to become set for life, even if you come from a third world toilet bowl: Move to America. Create a major incident, and sue the government. Live well the rest of your life.
He won't get any tacos there, but he will learn all about condoms, gay sex and how wonderful our Dear Leader Obama is.
“Go back to India or homeschool your kid.
Were Christians and we homeschool ours.
Dont expect us to go crying for you.
Leave us alone.”
Just wow...
I have a real problem with this attitude
1) You are a Christian the public schools are not. They should not be for or against *any* religion (yes I know 9/10 times is Christians getting the shaft).
2) Why should we have prayer in schools? What if a district is 75% Muslim? Or Hindu should Christian kids have to endure their prayers and diet?
3) How the hell do you know the parents are not native born, there are native born Hindus..

Now I very much doubt the kid was ‘force fed’ more likely he complained and the told him thats all he was getting
“Force fed...”? You mean the boy was held down and water boarded until he agreed to eat the beef?
Don’t think so
and the Hindu went nuts and then said...hmmmm....think I'll get me a lawyer!!!
My Gandhi appears to speak English. Why is it his children do not?
Based on the state of public education many of us look at what little Johnny and Suzie have learned, compared to what we pay in taxes, scratch our heads and say “Where’s the Beef??”
Wait, you’re thinking that there is some possibility that the school did indeed force-feed a kid?
I’m reading this as, somebody in line said something like “no I don’t think that’s a beef taco” or “yeah it’s a beef taco, you can eat it or go hungry”. No way could it be anything like what papa is claiming.
Not that I would support a teacher force-feeding anything to a child under any circumstance, but there seems to be a great deal of information missing from this story.
This is RUBBISH!!
No one is FORCED to EAT in AMERICA!! ANYTHING!!!
If it was TRUE, there’s lots of people I’D FORCE to eat SHIT!!!
Can’t do’it!!
Possible Scenario #7:
The kid wants to eat taco’s like all the other kids...the parents find out and pitch a fit and then it gets twisted into “force fed” because people in America (or new arrivals to America), KNOW that if they can just win a Big Lawsuit, they will be “set for life”...like winning a lottery.
Put aside the "Hindu" and "beef" issue. Should a teacher force feed ANYTHING to a kid? I say no. If you say they should, can you give examples of when that would be acceptable?
Would’nt you? If you had to send your kids to a public school and say the teacher was having tarot card day or ‘Blaspheme The Holy Spirit Day’ would you go ape no matter how much ‘fun’ the kid had..
Now if the kids took it, ate it quietly, cant fault the teachers but if the kids asked for more food and he was physically or via force of authority forced to eat it I would sympathize with the father as he proceeded to tear the school apart..
That just would never happen. There's more to the story.
Some school-yard bully might do it, thats an every day thing in any school, but there is no way a school employee is going to do what they are accused of doing.
If they did, they deserve to be zotted big-time, not because the kid is hindu, but because its out of line period. But I doubt it happened as written. There is much more to the story, or it didn't happen.
I always believe government hired lawyers. Don’t you? There’s no way schools would teach fisting classes either is there?
Not to mention that they don't know that a pronoun must agree with its antecedent in person and in number.
Terrible. The chicken tacos are much better.
Somehow, I doubt this story is true as it is written.
Government school teachers are force-feeding athesim, marxism, multiculturalism, and the homosexual agenda in tax-funded, union-run government schools right now.
That’s a LOT worse than a little ground beef.
Besides, school tacos ain't really beef anyway.
More like soy & sawdust.
Dang tasty though.
I used to work with Indians and had to go on road trips occasionally with them. Meals were impossible because we’d stop somewhere and they’d ask the waitress if beef fat was used to fry, etc., and if so they’d refuse to eat. We finally just went where we wanted to eat and tossed them the rental car keys afterward and said, “good luck”.
Bring your own lunch
Bring your own lunch
ya know....I went through 12 yrs. of public school myself...and my kids have gone through nearly 12 yrs. apiece....and in all that time of exposure to the school system, where I could fill several volumes with examples of administrative stupidity, I have never once heard of any incident where a child was force-fed a taco. Or anything else for that matter. Guess it’s just his bad luck to step off of a plane from India and be the first???
What??? Are you nuts?? So now what happens to Jews who follow Kosher? Are they going to be force fed milk with Pork?
What happens to the various Christian denominations that don't eat various kinds of seafood??
What kind of logic is that? This does not make us sound SANE.
Now, keep in mind, my post is only about force feeding someone that they don't want.
I have ZERO comments about the legality of this lawsuit. I have no idea if this kid was forced or not.
If he was forced then strike down the offenders. If he was not then Mr. Gandhi go and put your kid in timeout for wanting to eat beef.
I think you probably got it right. There was no “force” in “forced”.
BTW, I know many Hindu professionals. They and their children (if observant) have very little trouble navigating the gastronomic scene in America.
Abolish government schools.
Problem solved.
Abolish ALL schools.
Even more problems solved.
School is the longest-running hoax since Astrology.
The mans religion and race should not be a issue only if his kid was forced to eat beef
I would not be surprised if was true though
I can just hear the little kid yelling to his mom, “I want taco for supper! Give me taco! I hate your food!” Ha!
I would agree these are worse than a little beef, but neither of us is Hindu.
So again, I ask the question, are you okay with a teacher force feeding anything to any student. (I'm talking food here, which of course you know.)
Here's an example you may be able to relate to. Perhaps your child does not like carrots. Would you want a teacher to force feed carrots to your child?
> Would you want a teacher to force feed carrots to your child?
Well, no, of course not. But I wouldn’t have a problem if the teacher said, “You don’t get anything else until you eat your carrots.”
That’s what we do.
If the child is fussy about food, and refuses to eat it, that’s what they get for their next meal. Cold.
I wasn’t aware the teacher tried to FORCE the child to eat. I just skimmed the story.
But the Hindu parents had a responsibility to inform the school about their dietary restrictions. What if this had been a food allergy? It could have turned out tragically.
And if the parents and the school disagree, then it is inconsistant for parents to submit their children to an authority with which they disagree. We disagree with the very concept of “public” school, so we homeschool ours.
