I respect Blunt, being a Congressman and being a former president of my alma mater, but he's been in DC way too long and carries a TON of baggage. Plus, the Blunt name has been severely tarnished here in Missouri.

I am shocked that the Missouri GOP thinks that Blunt can beat Robin Carnahan. We need someone stronger than Blunt.

I live in southwest Missouri and Sarah Steelman remains extremely popular here. Looking at the August 2008 GOP primary results, she won all of southwest Missouri, much of the Kansas City area, and parts of the northwest.

I really think Steelman should run for the Senate seat and NOT for Blunt's Congressional seat; that looks like it will be a very crowded field.

I think Steelman's got the ability to beat Carnahan. The Missouri GOP has to get out of their "anointed-one-la-la-land" and look at someone who can actually win!

Missouri ping

Low volume ping list

FReepmail me to be on, or off, this list.

Personally, I think it's time for fresh blood all around in Congress.

Agree. Blunt was just the “next guy in line”.

To be fair, Blunt will have the party unified behind him, and he’ll have no problem with money, and he “checks all the boxes” in terms of conservative issues....he’s just part of the ‘old boys club’ in Missouri politics.

Steelman may be taking one for the party in the interest of avoiding a bitter primary fight. The GOP needs to avoid that in order to present the strongest possible front to Carnahan.

Almost makes you wonder if the Missouri GOP has already written off the Senate seat. Carnahan is going to be hard to beat; she took 62% in a statewide race last year. The GOP needs an A-list candidate and I doubt that Blount is it.

Thas a fac jac ..... But so many here will disagree. Seems like there once was a man (I use that term loosely name John McLame another with an R behind his name ..... people here flocked to him

While I don't think Blunt is a RINO like these guys.
I do think he was a Bush Lap-dog as he voted for anything the administration wanted. He voted for the Medicare drug bill, the No Child Left Behind Act, The Farm Bill and The Highway Bill. Blunt also defends the use of earmarks.

The worst part of Blunt is that he voted for both TARPS!!!

The only way for the Republicans to win is to restore confidence in the 2 party system. There needs to be a purge of any and all tax and spend Republicans like Blunt. Then during the run-up to the elections the Republicans should run against TARP and an out of control establishment government. The jewel in their campaign needs to be term-limits.

I agree and I am generally suspicious of Blunt. I do not know if he is a RINO or a conservative. I recieved an email from Kit Bond stating he is a conservative by pointing out a view conservative positions, but nothing showing a conservative philosophy.

What is puzzling is Conyers supported Specter before he bolted, supported Crist without considering Rubio, but has only given a statement that he is "pleased" that Blunt is running. I don't know if that is a good thing a moron like Conyers hasn't supported Blunt or a bad thing that Blunt can't make the same cut as Specter and Crist.

Sounds like the GOP thinks they can win by eliminating choices and then counting on that conservatives will show up and vote for Blunt because Obama will have screwed things up so badly we will vote for Satan as long as he has an R after his name.

This is very very RISKY on the Missouri GOP establishment's part. Mr. Blunt will have to earn my vote, not get it by default.

Carnahan will be able to paint Blunt as the worst Washington insider, backroom dealing, Bush sycophant.

Steelman/Carnahan Woman vs woman, both outside of the Washington stench.

Go Sarah!

Lets see. The race will be Nixon & Carnahan vs Bush & Blunt. Currently, the people of the Show Me State aren’t in love with Matt BLunt and GW Bush.

Shame, Steeleman ditched the run fo Senate in favor of Blunt’s house seat.

You know for a fact Steelman can actually win? I'm in S.E. Mo. and know nothing about her capabilities.

I had a call from the Blunt campaign and that guy and I had some disagreements. He wanted money now, but I told him I wasn't going to support Blunt until Blunt convinced me he was something other than a moderate democrap.

I wonder if she even has support of the state GOP for the house seat?

I have little use any more for anything branded with GOP’s name.

Well, I didn’t “flock” to John McCain ,but I voted for him because I had enought common sense to know he or anyone would do less harm than this poser that won. I’m getting tired of being bashed for voting against “That One”.

“You know for a fact Steelman can actually win?”

I really believe she can! First of all, she lost the August 2008 GOP Primary to Kenny Hulshof by only 18,000 votes. It was a very close race. Hulshof only won the primary because of the St. Louis area and eastern parts of the state; Steelman won the rest.

Steelman stood up to corruption in Missouri state politics; she is loved by many people, but hated by the state legislators.

No, I wasn't being critical ... I voted for Palin as well, knowing McLame was still on the ticket. However ... anyone else at the time with McLame .. I don't know if I could have held my nose. Palin brought a glimmer of hope (still does) and then McClame spits on her. Dirtbag through and through.

McLame has proven himself to continue being a dirtbag. He just LOVES the magic Negro and his band of socialists. Actually ... MClame loves the fawning of the news media over him more than anything. He is like arlyspectator ... it is what it is.

So I wasn't being critical of you .. we were in the same boat forever. My comments are directed to those who would have supported Mclame no matter who else was with him ... or would support him even now ... he is no different than spectator or the Zero crowd

The Blunt family is conservative and they are not RINOs but they like so many here on this website worshiped at the feet of GWB and followed him to their own eventual destruction. It is a shame that principles just got abandoned in the quest to excuse the policies of the Bush Administration. Many good, well meaning conservatives just could not see where this course of Bush idolatry would take the conservative movement.
I think the only hope for Blunt or any Missouri republican in 2010 is an unfortunate economic collapse so bad that the people will forget the part that the republicans in the last 2 to 4 years had to play in same.

Unfortunately, Sarah fronted for the trial lawyers all the while she served in the MO Senate. She had many conservative tendencies but her unwillingness to divorce herself from this group of reprehensible thieves and scoundrels just will not wash with most conservatives.

Thanks for the ping, Joe.

I like Blunt but am tired of insiders. I don’t think Steelman will get the coverage fairly from the media.

With corrupt media and sound byte voters we get more Hopium.

STAMP OUT POLITICAL NEPOTISM! BRAND NAME POLITICAL FAMILYS ARE LIKE A MONARCHY.

We need NEW blood and not family lineage of politics.

I supported Steelman for Governor. I saw how the GOP turned against her in favor of Hulsoff. The GOP isn’t the selectors here. The people are. Let them see if WE can pick a winner for a change instead of the losers the GOP money banks on.
