Alec Baldwin is considering writing a parental guide book.
The actor, who was vilified in the media after an answer machine message of an attack on his teenage daughter Ireland was leaked online, insists he's the perfect person to pen a modern look at parenting.
Baldwin admits he was shocked by the letters and emails he received from fans who revealed they'd never been able to shake harsh things their parents had told them - and, as a result, opted to treat their own kids with kindness at all times.
As a result, he fears parents have stopped parenting.
He tells Playboy magazine, "It will be ironic for some people, but I'm going to write a parenting book. We're at... an awful place right now in terms of parenting. People are raising their children with the belief that we need to be friends with our children.
"Kids have too much power and call too many of the shots, telling their parents what they will and won't do."
And Baldwin blames the economy and other social issues for the way parents have gone soft: "People are working hard to make money and manage their feelings about what the country's going through. We live in stressful times.
"People come home, walk up the driveway, put the key in the door, and they can't do another hard job. Parenting your children effectively is a tough job."
Oh Woe is me... Whys everybody pickin on me???
Will there be a chapter on how to call your daughter a pig?
Oh. My. Gosh.

Alec Baldwin can follow up his parenting guide with a how-to guide to a successful marriage. Kim Bassinger can write the Foreword...
Why not? A man who has never run anything in his life is now the President of the United States, so why can’t Hollywood’s most famous two-bit father write a book on parenting?
Well Alec, it’s because of liberal social attitudes that we are at this point in our culture. I think it’s fine you want to be a good father, but, liberalism has infected parenting, as it has infected many other parts of our culture.
We can’t discipline our kids the way kids could be disciplined in the old days. For example, how many of you of a certain age were spanked by your parents as punishment? How many kids today have ever been spanked? I think some places even have laws against that. Nobody wants to see kids beaten up, but a little physical discipline used properly can be effective.
Schools aren’t allowed to use corporal punishment anymore. Again, nobody wants to see kids beaten, but how many of a certain age were wrapped across the knuckles in school? I remember my 1st grade teacher threatened that she would hit misbehaving kids across the hands with her yardstick. I’m sure she would be fired today for making such threats. I never remember her hitting any kids, she just threatened and shouted, and the class settled down. A little fear in kids of what might happen can be a good thing.
But kids today know that teachers aren’t allowed to touch them, and that’s part of our school discipline problems, in my opinion.
Nope. No breathtaking arrogance in Hollywood. Maybe his next book will be, “How to Love and Honor the United States.”
“And Baldwin blames the economy and other social issues for the way parents have gone soft”
In other words, “It’s Bush’s fault.”
Good gravy!
Writing the book might be good therapy for him in an odd sort of way.
Alec Baldwin writing a parental guide book is like Bill Clinton writing a book on marital fidelity.
I have lost four friends to heart disease after they exhibited the same signs.
He needs to forget about writing books and attend to his health while he still has some time left to do so.
Maybe there is someone on this forum who knows about this sort of thing and can straighten me out if I'm wrong about this.
There's irony there that he's probably not even aware of!
Boy, I just put a pre-order in for the book——//NOT//
and from the looks of him, how to eat like one tooo...
Believe it or not I agree with him on this one. I think I just saw a pig fly by too.
