SNIPPET: "Frontpage Interview's guest today is Konstantin Preobrazhenskiy, a former KGB agent who became one of the KGBs harshest critics. He is the author of seven books about the KGB and Japan. His new book is KGB/FSB's New Trojan Horse: Americans of Russian Descent."
SNIPPET: "My work in Tokyo as a spy from 1980-85, was very successful. I was covered as a correspondent of the Soviet TASS Agency. But it was not a cover for me. It was my actual job, because I am a born author. My KGB colleagues in Tokyo called me, with a grin, An author covered as a spy. And they were right."
SNIPPET: "FP: Can you talk a bit about the growth of leftism in America and the KGB influence on it?
Preobrazhensky: Well, the KGB has no special need to influence American leftists any more. Their ancestors in Stalins time have done it for them. They have seeded leftism among the American intellectuals, and todays KGB is only gathering their crop.
On the other hand, a lot of American leftists were recruited by the KGB in the Soviet period. They are still working for the Russians. There are many KGB collaborators in this country."

“Spies Among Us
By: John Earl Haynes and Harvey Klehr”
WashingtonDecoded.com | Friday, June 19, 2009
SNIPPET: “While we were writing Spies: The Rise and Fall of the KGB in America, based on Alexander Vassilievs notebooks, we anticipated a hostile reaction from battered but still rancorous remnants of the pro-Communist left in the academic world and partisan pundits. Together they have denied for more than fifty years that Soviet espionage in the United States in the 1930s and 1940s had much significance, denounced claims linking the Communist Party of the USA (CPUSA) with Soviet espionage, and proclaimed the innocence of many of those identified as Soviet agents.”
SNIPPET: “In some quarters, the release of Vassilievs notebooks and simultaneous publication of Spies has been greeted with falsehoods, obfuscation, ad hominem attacks, insinuations of financial chicanery and forgery, and illogical, wrong-headed, and easily rebuttable arguments. These efforts will prove futile. By putting Vassilievs original notebooks in the Library of Congress with no restrictions on their use, and by posting scans of the notebooks on the web, the archival source of Spies is conveniently and easily available to the entire scholarly world, or to anyone simply interested in the subject. As other scholars consult and use the notebooks, we are entirely confident they will judge them authentic and reliable. There is much material in the notebooks that we did not use in Spies, and other researchers may spot matters we overlooked or will use the material to address questions we did not think to ask.”
Does CIA have actual spies, or just using locals to give them information. To me CIA dont have enough human spies who they send afar on missions, but rely too much on electronic intercept and many ppl sitting back at home analysing information from afar, which may explain why CIA intel sucks so much
At least one of em is in the White House.
I don't know, but they do have some great connections with the New York Times.
“To me CIA dont have enough human spies...”

I understand what you are saying 4rcane; human intelligence can often be the best source of intelligence.
I have no idea how many “human spies” the CIA has and in this housewife’s opinion — I don’t need to know.
Thanks for the post. I am amazed at the success of the Left in this country as their goals and purposes have been evident for over fifty years. Many Americans seem to be sleep walking through life.
“Many Americans seem to be sleep walking through life.”
I agree.
BTTT for mass email tomorrow ...
Thanks Cindy.
You’re welcome Brad’s Gramma.
Thanks for posting. Very interesting interview by Jamie Glazov at FPM.
You’re welcome PGalt.
Yep, I thought it was interesting, too.
From a post this morning by FReeper Avi Kane, “Tourism Ministry: The Russians are Coming, Lets Capitalize”
by Avraham Zuroff
While most Russian speakers in Jerusalem are immigrants who came during the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1990, it wasnt always so. One hundred years ago, a large contingency of Russian Orthodox pilgrims would annually visit the Holy Land. By the 1800s, the number of Russian pilgrims reached the thousands, some of them even arriving by foot.

Now they just have to sit back and watch us kill ourselves.
What an UNsurprise.
Sigh.
Thanks.
My reply: Maybe two or three or four or more. If you add in the staff members.
FP: What can Americans do to protect themselves from these Russian threats on their own territory? And what U.S. policy do you recommend toward Putin?Preobrazhensky: America should stop the current abnormal situation which finds Russian intelligence working here manifestly, being sure that Americans now cannot afford a spy scandal against its supposed ally in fighting terrorism.
America should stop tolerating Russia by concessions and apologies which cause nothing but laughter from Russians. Americans should understand that Putin and other Russian leaders have a criminal psychology as they are building criminal capitalism. From the point of view of the mafia, those who make concessions are losers and fools. They deserve only further pressing, which Russia is demonstrating. America should be hard with Russians. Only after that Russians will respect America.
America should get rid of false expectations about Russia, the most dangerous of which is the following: "We need each other to oppose China and militant Islam". Russia does not need America at all in this. Russia tolerates both China and Islam in a way of betrothal, behind the back of America and in spite of it.

We had a few of them on FR.

The Russians still recruit leftists in this country. It is their MO. They also still assist various Communist groups as it is still in their national interest to do so, and because they have working knowledge of the groups to get them to do things in Russia’s interest (Think Hugo Chavez). Finally, Russia is still controlled by a bunch of Soviet wantabees who want to return Russia to Soviet “Glory”.
“Russia is still controlled by a bunch of Soviet wantabees who want to return Russia to Soviet Glory.”
Yes, history attempted to repeat itself.
Thanks for the ping. Terrific article. If only more people had a clue about how Russia operates. There are more than a few on this site who actually admire and trust Putin!
