Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has told Mousavi to pursue his demands through the electoral system and called for Iranians to unite behind their Islamic government, an extraordinary appeal in response to tensions over the presidential vote. But Mousavi appears unwilling to back down, issuing on his Web site a call for a mass demonstration Thursday.
"We want a peaceful rally to protest the unhealthy trend of the election and realize our goal of annulling the results," Mousavi said.
He called for his followers to wear or carry black in mourning for the alleged election fraud and the deaths of protesters, and said there should be "a new presidential election that will not repeat the shameful fraud from the previous election."
Web sites associated with Mousavi and the reformists called for at least one rally later Wednesday. An amateur video showed opposition supporters in Tehran.
The video showed thousands marching on an overpass in the capital, some flashing the victory sign or carrying placards with others dressed in green the color associated with pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi's election campaign.
Mousavi has also sought support from Iran's grand ayatollahs widely respected clerics at the top of the religious hierarchy, although most don't have direct political roles. He sent a letter to one liberal grand ayatollah, Yousef Sanei, who was encouraging, issuing a statement calling for "achieving rights and respect for the people's votes."
Iran's most senior dissident cleric, Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, said widespread vote fraud had undermined the legitimacy of the ruling Islamic system and that "no sound mind" would accept the results.
State media said Khamenei would deliver the sermon at Friday prayers, the most important religious address of the week. The supreme leader generally leads Friday prayers only two or three times a year.

Getting Ayatollah Sanei to make a public statement is an encouraging sign.
Obama will never back any close scrutiny of the Iranian election. He's going to need massive voter fraud to win reelection himself and doesn't want any type of light shining on election fraud methods.
Good point, we can thank Bush for the appetite for freedom in Iran. Those Mousavi supporters definitely have guts. Americans can learn a thing or two from them, myself included.

SSSSSSMACK ON!
Freedom is essential to prevent communism overtaking the world. Bush knew what he was doing, although many want to demonize him. I know that the CFR has David Rockefeller in control of the think tank, and he is self professed communist.
America is being taken apart piece by piece to prevent us from ever helping another country again like the Iraq War...it’s simple not complicated.
Absolutely right.
I AGREE!The so-called dictum that a former POTUS cannot say anything ill of his successor has been laid to rest by Cawtah and”Slick Willy”!
And thanks are due to the many men and women in the military who have served in Iraq. I hope they will realize the part they have played in the hunger for more freedom by the people of the Middle East.

.
Øbama would accept the results, but again, Grand Ayatollah was talking of “sound minds”, not ‘know-it-alls’
*impeached
No matter what, including Khamenei and the thousands marching in the street declaring they wanted freedom because of Bush, the 0 and his spin teams will declare it was his divine Cario speech that lit the torch of freedom in Iran.
He has been doing it ever so well.
I don’t think it’s ever inappropriate for an American president, past or present, to speak out in the service of liberty. He need not address the current administration at all.
No, no, it was Obama’s Cairo speech that did it.
This would be great - do Americans do rallies any more? At least ones that aren’t connected with free rock concerts? I bet Palin & Hannity could get a huge crowd together!
Nice tagline...but King Hussein of Jordan died years ago. It’s Abdullah now.
I don’t see how that’s different than what I posted.
That is the problem in the first place! Islam naturally lends itself to this sort of violent form of government. The election is nothing more than a showpiece for the mullahs appointing a figurehead. It is the mullahs who have all the power.
Perhaps I read yours incorrectly, I took it as your suggesting that it would be inappropriate for Bush to speak out (at all).
Glen Beck is doing that with the 9/12 project. Today he had the fired inspector general on, and gave him the official test to show there was nothing wrong with him, and the ‘senile’ smears of Obama Admin is lie.
I see getting rid of Ahmadinejad as the best option no matter who replaces him, the civilians are making gains toward freedom, even not being the optimum choice, they would be more empowered next time, every taste of freedom counts

There, fixed it for ya ;)
