Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin paid a visit to Long Island, N.Y., on Sunday and spoke about the joys of raising her 1-year-old son Trig, who was born with Down syndrome.
"We are just so blessed to have this child in our lives," Palin said before a crowd of about 1,000 people. "What God has shown us with Trig in our lives is 'Yes, every single person has purpose no matter their developmental abilities.' "
Also at the event a fundraiser for Independent Group Home Living, a non-profit for children and adults with developmental disabilities were Palin's husband, Todd; their 14-year-old daughter Willow; and Palin's sister Heather Bruce and her son Karcher, 14, who has autism.
"Having a son being born with Down syndrome is a whole new chapter of our lives," Palin said. Her voice began wavering slightly as she continued: "I tell Todd that God has blessed us, and we don't ask, 'Why me? Why us?' We say at this point, finally and to be honest with you it's taken a while for us to get to this point where we can say, 'Thank you, God for allowing us to recognize the special needs community.' Without Trig this would be absent from us. I am at a point in my life of thanking God for blessing us with this bundle of joy who is this typical rowdy 1-year-old."
The former Republican nominee for vice president reiterated a pledge she made during the 2008 campaign to help those with disabilities. "Just because our ticket placed second, second out of two," she said, "you still have an advocate for the cause."
Palin also walked with her family in Purchase, N.Y., for Autism Speaks, which she said was "really great" for her nephew Karcher to get to see that "there's a whole lot of people out there who share with him some of the challenges he's living with and overcoming."
Palin, in a black and white layered skirt and a black sweater set, arrived to a cheering crowd, and spoke to a group of women who had yelled for her to stop for a chat.
"We loved her. She thanked us," said Deanna Varricchio, of Smithtown, and a member of the Smithtown Republican Woman's Club. "It's wonderful that she's here. She's a beautiful person."

Palin PING!
Anyone on or off the Palin ping, write me.
Uh oh she spoke his name I guess that means creepy perverted comedians have the right to attack him.
“Uh oh she spoke his name I guess that means creepy perverted comedians have the right to attack him.”
That’s right, he’s fair game, she is “parading him around” /s
taht was the worst part that this whole letterman thing sort of overshadowed the reason she was there in the first place and the good work she was doing. there was very positive local press and even pretty good natl press over that weekend and that sort of fell by the wayside.
she flies the equivalent of going from ny to rome to help raise money for children and this lout insults her and her family. I bet he probable still has no clue why she ws there in the first place.
That is the opinion that drives the Party of Death nutz!
In their sick minds, Trig should have been aborted.
Because Sarah and Todd accept Trig as a gift and challenge from God
The Party of Death must mock and belittle him as well as Sarah and Todd.
It's the high cost of maintaining his life, you know. Got to save 'taxpayer'
money for Broadway shows for CHOSEN ONE.
Considering the recent CBS Late Show upset, could this article be seen as enlightening?
While I don’t trust the media, this was probably done weeks before publishing.
Credit where credit is due (unless I missed something in the article...)
Don’t you know? Trig is “fair game” since the Palin’s “paraded him around” in front of the nation.
Or so says the MSLSD parrots.
I think Piper would kick their butts if they tried.

26 years ago our son with Down Syndrome was born. He’s sitting at a table across the room from me here at the cottage right now. When he was born, we thought we had been cursed and repeatedly asked God why. Within a few months we came to understand that he was and is the greatest blessing God could give to our family and our social and religious communities. What the Governor and her husband have experienced is the usual one, but no one can convince new parents of a child with Down Syndrome that all will be well, that this is birth is a blessing. Its a realization that comes with time. The Governor and her family will face all sorts of challenges as their little fellow grows up, probably more than my family has, but with the understanding they have of what a gift he is, I suspect they’ll do fine.
Kathy Griffin has already said she has no problem going after the whole family, “even the baby”. I say she should go for it and see what it does for her career.
Kathy Griffin has already gone after Jesus, so going after anyone else should be easy for her. I never really thought KG was very funny but I watched her occasionally but never again after her attack on Jesus Christ.
The author said she was in a black sweater set and black and white skirt. If the above picture is real; the author is either blind or dumber than door nails or just flat doesn’t care how he/she reports. I hate to point these things out; but you know what a giant mistake the MSM is and lazy to boot. I would be surprised if this reporter/reporterette actually got out of their chair to investigate the facts to do this article.
Yeah, Kathy come on and say something about the baby. Let’s see how cool you are to attack an innocent child. Let’s see all the laughs that one gets.
Let’s see what a piece of trash you are and how far you career will tank. Let’s see what kind of sicko you really are.
Every medical professional I have ever known has commented on how much they enjoy their Down’s patents. Their eyes light up and they smile when discussing them.
Wow, this is a positive piece ... almost “Michelle Obama” treatment in this article. I guess it would be difficult to put a negative spin on attending charity events, but still, not bad for People.
Wonderful post. Honest, positive and on topic.
I was recently on a retreat with a man who’s son has Down Syndrome. His son was a server for the first time at the Mass we attended when we returned from our retreat. It was such a joy to see the pride in the father’s face as he watched his son flawlessly perform his duties as a server.
Here is a link to some pictures you might enjoy showing kids with Down Syndrome having fun playing baseball.
Wow the Governor is really smoking in that picture.
When anybody says what Ms. Griffin said at a minimum she is amoral, self-serving and Narcissistic and at worse a deranged Fascist.
bless you
How are ya feeling, Mrs. D?
I’m sure they already have but it’s just not been reported!
Their ‘tolerance’ and ‘inclusiveness’ is but a sham.
