New Focus on the Family Chief Wants 'More Families Like Obama's' (BARF ALERT)
US News and World Report ^ | 6/16/2009 | Dan Gilgoff

Posted on 06/16/2009 7:09:29 PM PDT by markomalley

Imagine you're at Focus on the Family to watch founder James Dobson formally step down from the board after three decades. The newly powerful ministry president—the micro-managerial Dobson is now officially powerless—steps to the mic and says: "What we want to see are more families like Barack Obama's."

Would never happen, right?

Well, it already has. The Denver Post reports on Focus's newish CEO, Jim Daly, who wants to trade Focus's image as a Christian right group in for one of as a family-focused ministry. After all, apolitical, family-focused work still absorbs the vast majority of Focus's resources.

A few key graphs on how Daly plans to drastically change Focus's approach to politics and public policy:

Dobson rarely engaged directly and publicly with political opponents, although he sometimes met them behind the scenes. Daly expects to be more open.

"We're in a democracy. How do we express Christian ethos in a way that draws people into the discussion?" Daly asked. "We are the church. We have to be more understanding and not expect the world to act like the church. We also don't accept the church acting like the world."

[SNIP]

When Dobson stepped down, he said a few words on the occasion. And then Daly spoke.

"What we want to see are more families like Barack Obama's," Daly said.

"Everybody's jaw went clunk, including Dr. Dobson's," Daly recalled, laughing. "But we can respect what Obama does well. We can focus more on the positive. And I respect his family."

Daly says he is results-oriented, not an ideologue.

"When those who are right, left and center all say, 'Let's make abortion rare,' let's meet at that starting point," Daly said. "Let's shove off the rhetoric and get together on practical matters."

It depends what he means, if he only means that the mother (woman) and father (male) are married, living together, and raising their children....then he is right in that respect. The Obama family is a good example of the traditional two-parent family.

I don’t think this guy Daly will have that job very long ... for being “results-oriented” he certainly has a weak composition, and a very superficial understanding of history.

OK so lets get it straight Focus on the Family wants to see Family’s where the Fathers believe in their soul that their Daughters pregnancy is viewed as a punishment? Where the Father figure supports laws where if an innoncent baby somehow survives the abortionists cruel instruments then that baby born free and alive into this world should be immediately Murdered that Life stamped out all because the Mother and society should not be PUNISHED with that baby.

We are in the end times for sure.

Compromisers, I imagine Dobson isn’t happy about this: and if I were long time members I wouldn’t be either (since you can’t separate faith & culture (which is what it primarily is conservative on, anyway).

I hope this guy gets ‘fired’! (or has some..spanin’ to do)

Isn't this placing Obama in check? Two parent, heterosexual, married families with children do best by far.

I doubt he means to promote leftist ideologies, but stating the obvious that Obama was raised by a stable, married couple in direct opposition to his mother's leftist lifestyle and his father's Islamist hedonism certainly places Barack in a trick bag.

"What we want to see are more families like Barack Obama's," Daly said.

I can see that. Mom and Dad married and they do seem to care very much for their daughters.

If more families followed that example we would be better off.

Of course daddy is a con-man and mommy has a major bitterness problem but they do have a intact nuclear family.

A family that has its kids baptized in the church of a vicious racist spouting hate-American and hate-whitey week after week? A family that doesn’t give birthday or Christmas presents to the kids in accordance with Muslim tradition? A family with deep rooted contempt for the white race and Western Civilization?

Yes, we need many more families like this.

Exactly! 70% of black babies are currently born out of wedlock. If black men are inspired to marry and remain married because the first black president is married then I say hurray!

You make great points. He is such a role model (Obozo)..He can teach the “shelf method” to his family. If it (the thing) breathes, put it on the shelf until it quits. Daly, just for starters, puts his foot in mouth.

I remember the million man march. I thought too. If the men would just go back to their girl friends, marry them, and be a father to their children that would have done a great good. I think it came apart because of the laws against polygamy. Afterall, how many girl friends can you legally marry?

American Right to Life Protestors Chose Principle over Pragmatism
Challenge to Christians – “Stop funding Focus on the Family!”

Denver, June 11, 2009 Two protestors charged by Focus on the Family of trespass, were in court June 10, 2009 for sentencing resulting from their peaceful sit-in last September 4, 2008.

Judge Spencer A. Gresham imposed fines of $450 and $550 respectively. Bob Enyart and Ken Scott refused to pay the fines, stating that they wouldn’t support a system, which allows for the killing of innocent babies in the womb. After they refused to pay the fine, Judge Gresham offered them the opportunity to do community service. Ken Scott again replied, “I refuse to do public service for a system that is killing innocent babies.”

A Focus on the Family representative, Lisa Anderson, asked for restitution in the amount of $400, which was supposedly the amount that Focus spent on dealing with the protestors. The judge refused the FOTF request, noting that the organization had paid security on duty during the protest. Pastor Enyart reminded the judge that while FOTF was asking for $400 in restitution, they were fraudulently raising funds with Dr. Dobson’s pledge to never again “support a candidate that would kill one innocent child.”

Scott and Enyart had made numerous requests to work toward meeting with FOTF in order to ask Dr. Dobson about violating his pledge to never vote again for a candidate who would allow for a single innocent life to be taken.

A video of James Dobson, making his 1990 pledge to a huge Washington, D.C. audience, in which he states, “As long God lets me live,” plays continuously in the FOTF Welcome Center. http://artlaction.com/release/20080825/james-dobson-violates-pledge-made-invoking-god

When James Dobson endorsed embryonic stem cell research supporter, John McCain for President, American RTL was compelled to confront Focus on the Family leaders about their fraudulent fundraising, based on James Dobson’s claim to be uncompromising in his defense of innocent life.

Focus on the Family recently interviewed Priests for Life’s Father Pavone, criticizing Notre Dame for arresting peaceful protestors at recent graduation exercises. It appears Focus on the Family has overlooked the plank in their own eye, by their actions against American RTL’s peaceful protest.

Right after I got laid off from my DoD job back in Jan 2008, I had a possibility to work at FOTF due to knowing a couple of people but I turned them down. Now I am glad I did.

One of the things about working there besides poor pay, their dress code required dark colored slacks, long sleeve shirt and tie. This included IT work which requires some physical labor. Even at the age of 43, I to this day still don't like to dress up. Also no flex time. Of course where I work at now, better pay, no dress code - just cover yourself but no flex time.

There are some things I do that FOTF might frown on. I enjoy Japanese animation.

This is a huge mistake. It may get them dollars from the liberal crowd but Christians, real Christians, will flee.

Best I recall they weren’t too impressed with Fred Thompson’s family...painted them as infidels when Fred wouldn’t discuss faith or worship habits to the degree they wanted.

What about Barry and Michelle’s church attendance with their children and the things their “reverend” was preaching when they did attend?

Dobson has been meddling in state and national politics for years.

He has set himself up as the arbiter of other peoples morals & values.

He stood by his old buddy Ted Haggard during his drug and perverted sex scandels.

He, Dobson really needs to seek the face of G-d and reject his massive pride.
