Cambridge — An over-confident doe seen bounding through Harvard Square accidentally impaled itself while jumping over a wrought iron fence Tuesday morning.

According to Cambridge Deputy Fire Chief Jack Gelinas, both police and fire responded to the front gate of an old historic church off Brattle Street around 7 a.m. after several calls from residents in the neighborhood. The fence the animal gored herself on encircles a historic Harvard Square cemetery known as The Old Cambridge Burying Ground next to Christ Church. The scene was not pretty, Gelinas said.

This is quite odd. I cannot imagine a deer being in that area. It’s not near anything I would consider a woodland habitat.

The animal is called “itself” and “herself” in the article. Who are we to judge?

.308 or 30’06?

Or maybe, a 1 inch fence spire.

“The deer was disemboweled,” he said. “All the intestines were out.”

She had a lot of guts.

In the days of Rome, this would have been seen as a rather dreadful omen.

“The deer was disemboweled,” he said. “All the intestines were out.”

Can we get some tenured professors to demonstrate how this happened? Poor thing would have cleared the fence if she hadn’t slipped on the BS that is manufactured there.

If they had bears and wolves in Cambridge, they wouldn't have a deer problem.

Luckily, our country (thanks to Florida and Katherine Harris) was able to avoid being Gored. Just imagine how much worse shape we’d be in if the Cigar Store Indian had succeeded in stealing the election in 2000! God, the inhumanity of the thought.

Odd to me also. Perhaps it worked its way in along the railroad tracks? Or a refugee from Franklin or Stone Park?

There might be sufficient habitat upstream on the Charles, or perhaps it worked its way down from Belmont.

After killing the doe, it's now an overwrought iron fence.

Why stop with tenured professors? We have an over-confident press after all.

Caligula occupies the White House. The timing seems about right.
