Israel's Netanyahu Calls for Creation Palestinian State for First Time (Depressing)
FoxNews ^

Posted on 06/14/2009 9:14:57 PM PDT by Scythian

VIENNA — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed a Palestinian state beside Israel for the first time on Sunday, reversing himself under U.S. pressure, but saying the Palestinians would have to lay down arms, a condition they swiftly rejected.

A week after President Obama's address to the Muslim world, Netanyahu said the Palestinian state would also have to recognize Israel as the Jewish state — essentially saying Palestinian refugees must give up the goal of returning to Israel.

With those conditions, he said, he could accept "a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside the Jewish state."

The West Bank-based Palestinian government dismissed the proposal.

That article is pure BS. I saw the whole speech and he told Barry to pound sand...he merely reiterated what Israel has acknowledged for years...no dividing of Jerusalem, no armed Palis running around, no Hamas...the Palis will never meet his preconditions.

He basically said that he would only accept a Palestinian state when hell freezes over. It’ll take about that long before they accept a Jewish state in their midst.

The Palestinians want what they have been brainwashed to want. The people behind the propaganda, that’s who we need to take care of.

The headline is rather misleading. I believe Bibi just threw it all back on 0bama. "Yea, we'll agree to your two state solution as soon as the Palestinians give up their thirst for our blood!"

Good luck 0bama in getting the Palestinians to go along.

Here is the way I look at it. Netanyahu is brilliant. He could not give Obama nothing so he gave him the show of working out his peace plan to save face. He gave him nothing in reality because the Palestinians must give up Hamas and demilitarize and recognize Israel as a state. Now if they want peace, they will do this. If not, then they can go pound sand. They will definitely go pound sand.

Just to reiterate what everyone else is saying, Netanyahu, much to his credit, is saying that if and only if the Palestinian illegal government(s) accept terms that technically put “Palestine” under Israeli control, will there ever be a so-called independant state of Palestine. It ain’t ever gonna happen. For anyone who reads this post who doesn’t understand, (no offense), Netanyahu is the leader of the Likud party, equivilant to the conservatives (like us) in the Republican party. He has repeatedly said that he does not wish there to be an independant Palestine, because this breeds more violence, not peace. He is merely reiterating that these terms, which will never be accepted by the Palestinians, are the only terms of an independant Palestine’s existence. And for good reason

True enough. But it’s the perception the world takes from this. And that perception, implied throughout the world’s media, is that Bibi caved to Obama. It doesn’t matter to them what he MEANT. It’s whatever they SAY he meant.

Remember, Obama would love to see Israel gone, bye-bye, puff. No doubt. Just look at his connections. As I say in my tagline, Netanyahu is the best person to run Israel right now since their biggest ally, America, is now run by an in-the-closet (not really if you understand his connections) anti-Semite.

I don’t understand all the excitement over this in the American press. Netanyahu basically restated what has been the Israeli position for a long time. To say that a Palestinian state is to be created in the future but not before they meet conditions which hopefully will never be met or else we’ll really have this Palestinian state shoved down our throats while half the world cheers.

So I don’t get why they are acting as if this is the first time they’ve ever heard such a thing. It’s standard, really.

Bibi played the diplomatic genius card. The ball is in the terrorists/arabs’ court now. He said they could have a “state” as long as they agree to a few simple conditions. He knows they won’t do it.

...reversing himself under US pressure. ..? I call total Barbara Streisand on that statement. Bibi strongly stood his ground. He put all the onus on the Palestinians to change if they want their own state. He also told the Arabs to take care of their own people. Basically saying, if the refugees are poor and starving, they can help them. After all, no one helped the Jews to prosper in the desert.

Depressing? Hardly, he kicked Bozo’s butt. He put conditions on forming a separate state that the muslims will never approve, and made it clear that Israel had to be declared an existing Jewish state. He didn’t cave into anything.

Fret not -- he's just playing the diplomatic game ... and being "reasonable" in front of the world community.

Netanyahu is re-positioning his chess pieces in his major strategic problem with Iran. In order to deal with Iran, Netanyahu needs the United States, and the acting-president who is driving a Islamic-friendly agenda.

If Iran gets nukes, one-fourth of Israelis have said they would leave Israel. Even if only partially-true, Netanyahu would also be risking civil war in his own country if he gives Palestine an inch of Jerusalem, which is the ultimately goal of Palestine (and Islamic community).

Here's the KEY condition of Netanyahu's speech (which would ultimately kill any real deal):

If we receive this guarantee regarding demilitarization and Israel's security needs, and if the Palestinians recognize Israel as the State of the Jewish people, then we will be ready in a future peace agreement to reach a solution where a demilitarized Palestinian state exists alongside the Jewish state.

Do you really think people like this fella here are going to accept such terms?

REALLY?!!

This is the real point of his speech, for sure, but that isn’t the way the media is reporting it. We are preaching to the choir here. It’s the braindead and Jew haters of the world who are going to read this exactly like the left wants them to.

This may not be any change at all. Bibi says the words that give Obama political cover, but with conditions he knows Palestinians will reject.

Hamas has never wanted a Palestinian State. They want the total destruction of Israel and that is all. Even if they got everything they wanted except for the old city and Temple Mount they would still reject the proposal.

Jerusalem only become a Holy City to Islam when they saw they could use it to help their conquest of the ME.

What this does is puts 0bama in the position of either rejecting Bibi’s offer and demanding an armed Palestine, divided Jerusalem, and an end to Israel as a Jewish state, or he accepts it and loses his justification for his anti-Israel activities.

It really puts 0bama on the spot between a rock and a hard place.

This is an AP article. AP worships Hussein. AP, therefore, is doing its best to make Hussein look good.

Essentially, Bibi told Hussein to shove it. The Palestinian state can exist, says Bibi...BUT it cannot have arms and it must get rid of Hamas and the Israeli settlements will continue and the P’s must acknowledge Israel’s right to exist AS A JEWISH STATE.

This seems to be like saying, “Yeah, we’ll let you fish come up and live on land as long as you grow some air-lungs and feet.” It ain’t gonna happen.

Anyone who thinks Netanyahu is caving to Obama on this needs to look at the Palistinian reaction to the speech. From The Jerusalem Post..........

Palestinian Authority officials in Ramallah expressed outrage and shock on Sunday over Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's call for the establishment of a demilitarized Palestinian state and his demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

The officials said that the speech that Netanyahu delivered at Bar-Ilan University was much worse than they had expected.

They also warned that Netanyahu's policies would trigger a new intifada.
