Between 5,000 and 10,000 people are expected to attend July 1-7.
The gathering will be 22 road miles northeast of Cuba and southeast of the San Pedro Parks Wilderness.

By their nature, no one can speak for the group, say Rainbow Family members, and thus cant sign any permit. Without a permit, the gathering becomes illegal, in the eyes of law enforcement agencies, which changes how forest officials react to it and increases the presence of armed law enforcement.
A site south of San Antonio Mountain near where the 20,000-person gathering occurred in 1995 has been the front-runner for several months, according to Gary Stubbs, of the Rainbow Family. However, concerns over the reception from Taoseños has put two sites near Cuba in the Santa Fe National Forest back on the table

I would go to this. Reminds me of flashmob or critical mass bike rides.
Since even reading the story didn’t tell me anything, What’s the Rainbow family?
I think that's a fine idea.
(not that cuba)
“Rainbow family.” A bunch of spoiled white kids getting naked in the forest.
By their nature, no one can speak for the group, say Rainbow Family members...
according to Gary Stubbs, of the Rainbow Family.
Looks like you two had a great time. But I think I see a....... :-)

Warning: Not safe for work.
What? No pic of Cartman batling the hippies?
Sounds like me not too long ago.
If they spend even one red cent on anything besides weed and rolling papers, Cuba will be lucky!
Not only bears poop in the woods!
Like any large group of people, some were nice, others crooks.
:snort:
In 1987, they had the Rainbow gathering in the mountains of western Carolina. When I was in Waynesville, there was one guy who came up to me and asked, “I’m a rainbow person, where’s the gathering”. I almost felt bad that he had overshot it by 40 miles.
As for the hair...

Mostly freaks & drug users.
They had thier gathering near a town I used to live in and they would come into the local store and wash them selves with the produce mister hose. The store would then throw out the produce and they would dumpster dive and get all the thrown away produce and make communal meals.
The Rainbow Family is a bunch of hippies, either elderly hippy-types (who still relive their glory days) or young wannabes who are in it for the dope and easy sex.
:o)
Awwww: he made you snort!
“Rainbow family. A bunch of spoiled white kids getting naked in the forest.”
I thought it was a bunch of queers getting together.
The story reads like a blog pinp posting without the blog. Even the article seems to be in on the secret.
In contrast, hunters and anglers have contributed billions to restore/manage wildlife populations in excise taxes

A bunch of us ought to go up there and photograph that gathering before, and after for sure, GFox.
Old hippies never die, they just smell that way!
LOL.
No, ROTFL.
I needed that laugh George, thanks.
They’re Jerry’s Kids. Jerry Garcia, that is.
I also borrowed your words above.
Thanks.
And yet, us conservatives hate nature. Every time I get into the outdoors, I pack out more garbage than I ever could have brought in.
Good! They fouled up the Hoosier National Forest about 10 years ago. I hope they stay out west.
us conservatives = they say we conservatives.
Too early in the morning, need more cafiene caffyne coffee.
The Rainbow Family of Living Light, also known as The Rainbow Family, are a loosely affiliated group of individuals committed to principles of non-violence and non-hierarchical egalitarianism.
Founded in 1972 in the United States, the Rainbow Family has held annual Gatherings in National Forests for the first week of July each year. The Rainbow Gatherings are non-commercial and all who wish to attend peacefully are welcome. There are no leaders, and traditionally the gatherings take place for a week, with a primary focus on the Fourth of July in North America, when attendees pray, meditate, or observe silence in a group effort to focus on World Peace. Thus, the name Rainbow Family of Living Light is a reflection of both the emphasis on welcoming people of all races, religions, ethnicity, and social status, as well as a spiritual focus towards peace.

Big old funny and eirie laugh from my wife and I.
From the neck up the gal in the picture looks like an old and semi reformed hippy gal we know in her early 60’s, and very much like her 30 year old daughter.
A bunch of Leftist Freaks.
You know it’s bad when you breathe a sigh of relief that the national forest they picked isn’t the national forest near you...
LOL!!
A reincarnation of the hippies of the ‘60’s.
Peace on them. :-)

Yes, drugs were involved.
“...or young wannabes who are in it for the dope and easy sex.”
So, in other words today’s Libertarians? LOL!
Just kidding! Just kidding! My Husband is one and I love him dearly, but I still have to give him chit about it! ;)
I cordially invite them to gather in any northern Wisconsin State or Federal Forest...in January!
Let’s see how committed these slacker/losers REALLY are! Anyone can dance around nekkid in the desert, fer Pete’s Sake!

“I cordially invite them to gather in any northern Wisconsin State or Federal Forest...in January!”
Ain’t that truth! They wouldn’t like Indiana much in January either.
Back in 1977 my then buddy (Little Toby Walker/guitarist) and me hitchhiked around the west and while in central New Mexico we stayed a few days at a Rainbow encampment with tee pees for shelter.
Of course we smoked pot and just hippied out all day.
They had this 3 legged black dog named ‘scootch’ hobbling about. So the Rainbows are still around, ay?
Interesting although at 21 yrs old in I don’t recognize that yute in me today.
Shouldn’t they be meeting on the Silver Mountain?
“In 1987, they had the Rainbow gathering in the mountains of western Carolina. “
There was a significant outbreak of Giardia at that particular gathering from the folks drinking at contaminated water sources. It was somewhere out around Tapoco IIRC.
Amen to that! We dodged a bullet this year.
