Letterman Owes Palin, Flight Attendants, Women in General an Apology
Politics Daily ^ | 06/11/09 | Melinda Henneberger

Posted on 06/11/2009 9:43:11 PM PDT by curth

This is why I stopped watching David Letterman even before Jon Stewart came along: He was forever either drooling on women or treating them like they were perfect idiots, in a way he never behaved with male guests. (I did, however, enjoy the appearances of his mom Dorothy, a church secretary who was occasionally able to summon Good Dave, live from her kitchen in Indiana.)

At age 62, he shouldn't need Dorothy to tell him that referring to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as having updated her "slutty flight attendant look'' is outrageous – and his "joke'' about Palin's daughter was even worse. During his Tuesday monologue, Letterman mentioned that last year's GOP vice presidential nominee was in New York, and had attended a Yankees game with her daughter. "During the seventh inning,'' he said, "her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." Palin had taken her 14-year-old daughter Willow to the game. On Wednesday night, a semi-apologetic Letterman told viewers that Willow's older sister, 18-year-old Bristol Palin, had been the intended target of the remark: "We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter, the 18-year-old girl, who is -- her name is Bristol, that's right -- and so, then, now they're upset with me. These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don't think it's funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn't put it in a joke." Which means he thinks rape jokes about an 18-year-old are funny?

This is pretty big. This is a front page story on AOL. Governor Palin is finally getting support from all over.

First and foremost he owes Willow Palin a humble apology.

Letterman just needs to leave. Go now. His time is over. He isn’t funny, he isn’t entertaining.

Just go, Dave. Don’t apologize, don’t explain. Nobody cares.

Time to leave.

He should talk. What about his own wife?
Talk about a S____.
The kid was practically 10 yrs old before Dave married her. Takes one to know one I suppose

After he makes his apology his late night show should be pulled. He is an ugly man who has no space to call anyone immoral. Seems he knocked up his girl friend and the baby was born before the nuptials!

Apology not needed, he needs to be fired.

Or let some of Palin’s supporters adjust his attitude for her. Would not take much. He would slither off into his hole again.

I never would have expected this to happen. It was somewhat slow on some blogs, except for freerepublic and conservative4palin, but man has this picked up steam. Letterman and CBS must be pissing their pants and hoping this will go away.

""her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.""

If I was Alex Rodriguez, I would be speaking to a lawyer. This should be worth about $2,000,000. I pray that Alex does this.

Letterman is a jerk and a despicable human being- even BEFORE this. And he just isn’t funny, either.
I’m glad Sarah took a poke at him.

"We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news..."

When Letterman makes a denigrating and sexually suggestive joke about Michelle Obama, somebody please let me know. And when Letterman makes any joke that makes Barack Obama out to be goofy or stupid or otherwise ridiculous, alert everybody, because that will be international news.

I’d love to see what would happen if Todd Palin met up with him. On the one hand, Todd would probably be too much of a gentleman to knock out a few front teeth, while on the other hand it would be richly deserved.

Write to CBS and complain:

I told CBS that Letterman owes Governor Palin a profound, deep and personal apology.

Don't forget A-Rod. I think it's entirely appropriate that Dave also apologize to Alex Rodriguez.

Complain about Letterman:

CBS maintains an Audience Services telephone number 4 audience complaints. Call 212-975-3247. Supevisor: Ray Failola.

I was gently foaming at the mouth today talking to this stooge. The Executive said that CBS hasn’t made a decision on a response. That it is letting Dave ‘handle it’.

Melt the phone lines Peeps!

I do at least expect an apology (not a fake one as he as previously given) from him and his liberal staff’s stupidity Not that it will make much difference, but it would make a nice “whoops” from CBS - which also should be involved.

This kind of over the top sexist stuff should be not only banned, but should be discouraged from the top (heh, can you actually see CBS discouraging anti-conservative humor from them)... Well, hey, they are destroying a good portion of their audience so they should be a bit more realistic.

True that. About five years before the nuptials, in fact.

Letterman just needs to leave.

That says it all. He himself admitted to cheap jokes just to get a laugh. And who's laughing? No one except the truly stupid people who sit in his audience.

Apparently Letterman is so full of himself that he could not admit to making a mistake.

He didn't offer a sincere apology; he chose to try to weasel out of his disgusting comment.

Hey Dave . . . .
Since you seem to be titillated by off color humor in your dotage, maybe in your swan song performance at See BS, you can work in a nasty crack concerning Regina Lasko and garden hoses and golf balls or how about taking a shot at the five year delays in the early DNA labs?
Dave . . . you there, Dave . . . . ?
