Gov. Dave Freudenthal concedes that he could have stretched next years budget without $230 million in cuts, but that it would be a very short-sighted view to take.
Freudenthal addressed a packed room of Wyoming stock growers during their annual convention Friday at Cam-plex Energy Hall.
He started the speech with a rundown of agriculture bills that didnt make it through the state Legislature in the last session, but then moved into his recent 10 percent budget cut for the next fiscal year.
We are not the federal government, Freudenthal said. We dont borrow money, we dont print money and, by God, well live within our means.

Dem or not. Wyoming has it right.
A DINO????
I love the sentiment but I dont believe that for a moment.
Actually he is pretty conservative.
Freudenthal is probably the closest thing America has to an authentic conservative Dim.
Color me impressed.
Damn we need him in our party. Sounds conservative. Wish more of our guys believed strongly enough in what they SAY they believe in, that they’d start not only saying stuff like this, but actually DOING it too.
I’m jealous! California wouldn’t be in deep doodoo now if we had him for a governator!
Clone him!
Get rid of these elitist liberal tax and spend until you have nothing left types, and give us those good ole honest Democrats like this one.
Well, you would be in trouble, but at least he wouldn’t make it worse and he’d probably make it better.
He’s got it right.
“...by God, well live within our means.
Rationality isn’t entirely dead; who’d have guessed.
Sounds a bit like a Democrat comparable to the Republican Palin.

fyi
How soon can I move there? It’s closer than Alaska, LOL.
Shouldn’t he have said, “and by law, we will live within our means.”?
Is my punctuation correct?
Amen.
Those of us who have made a conscious decision to live in the country know going in that we'll have to give up some conveniences. However, I would much rather live here than in town. The peace and tranquility more than makes up for not having a Wal*Mart just down the street.
Besides, near as I can figure, the nearest Nordstrom's is a three hour drive from here :)
I don't know about that when I consider how much my taxes have increased here in Wyoming. The state gov. is growing too. I wish he would do as he says ,but he is a democrat and Obama lover.
From what I remember from the ‘06 gubernatorial election, the electorate went with personality over the GOP candidate (Eli Bebout). My Dad who lives in Casper thought Freudenthal to be the more personable candidate of the two. Dad still voted for Bebout, but he did mention that he thought Freudenthal could have swayed a lot of voters.
Closer, but just about as cold as Alaska, at least the Alaska where most of the people live.
He recommended his wife to be a federal judge. How is that for taking care of his own?
