First lady Michelle Obama used some high-profile examples - including Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor - to reassure high school graduates any doubts they have about how they will do in college and beyond are not unusual.
She mentioned her own anxieties when first starting at Princeton University, as well as the concerns of Sotomayor, the first Hispanic considered for the nation's highest court. Sotomayor attended Princeton before Mrs. Obama and has said the surroundings intimidated her.
"I don't know if you know about this phenomenal woman, but the president - she's the president's nominee for the Supreme Court - and she's the first Hispanic woman to be considered for the position. The first," Mrs. Obama said, using her graduation speech Wednesday to make a pitch for the nominee.

PUKE!!!!!
I'm open to suggestions as to how we cleanse this parasitic menace from American soil, once and for all.

This is a friggin’ nightmare. These idiots have forgotten the day is supposed to be about the graduates. If I hear one more waahh wahhh speech I’m gonna puke.
I have a story too - don’t you? Don’t we ALL? Get over it, get on with life and MOVE ON ALREADY.
Exactly right. My alma mater had a far-left lib politician as a commencement speaker a few years ago, and ever since then I have donated ZILCH after having been a regular donor. It was a Bush-bashing, right-bashing etc, speech (I checked out the transcript afterwards), and all I could think about was how this person was usurping and stealing the day from the graduates who did NOT share that opinion, and even for the ones who did agree it was not cool to push a political agenda of negativity instead of celebrating the graduates' accomplishments.
You’re not kidding.
and even for the ones who did agree it was not cool to push a political agenda of negativity instead of celebrating the graduates’ accomplishments.

You’re right - it’s not cool. Whether you’re an adult learner who’s struggled to balance life, family, work and school or a 22 year old kid, isn’t more blah blah blah the last thing you want to hear on ‘your’ day?
There are so many inspiring individuals in this nation who don’t bring politics of any sort into their stories. I challenge universities and colleges across the nation to stand up and bring the kind of change we need - dump the political commencement speeches and bring on the real life heroes. We need them desperately.
