Only 21% of voters nationwide support a plan for the government to bail out General Motors as part of a structured bankruptcy plan to keep the troubled auto giant in business.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% are opposed to a plan that would provide GM with $50 billion in funding and give the government a 70% ownership interest in the company.
Even when presented with the stark choice between providing government funding or letting GM go out of business, only 32% of voters support the bailout. Most voters (56%) say it would be better to let GM go out of business.

Most political conservatives and moderates say it’s best to let the company fail, but liberals are evenly divided. A majority of voters in all age groups say it’s better to let GM go out of business. So do 59% of men and 53% of women.
An earlier survey found that 76% believed economic recovery was possible even if GM fails.
Looking back at the bailout funding already provided, 60% say the auto bailouts were a bad idea. Two-out-of-three believe that most of the bailout money is going to those who caused the economic crisis.
Only 18% say the federal government will do a good job running GM. But they suspect the government will do all it can to help its investment. After taking ownership of GM and Chrysler, 57% expect the government will pass laws and regulations giving those companies unfair advantages over others.

Elections have consequences.
Let's say GM makes environmentally-friendly cars in the future and the US public does not buy, but Ford sales rise. Since the UAW is a stakeholder in GM, will the UAW strike Ford to "level the playing field"? Is there some sort of oversight to monitor this potential situation?
How many of these morons voted for Obama and the current Rat Congress?
Interesting when coupled with the other Rasmussen poll showing most voters blame Bush for the current economic mess.
Will voters eventually get that Obama is making it worse or that Congress was Democratically controlled for the last two years of the Bush Administration?
Choice will no longer be an option when the government gets through with its’ stupid “plan”. We will all be driving tin cans and paying through the nose with money AND LIVES!!

It’s exactly that type of question that puts Ford in the same boat with GM and Chrysler for me. The root of the entire problem is the UAW...and they are entrenched at Ford too. NO UAW cars in this household in the future.

If this is true and only 1/2 the rats support it then my back of the envelope projected GM and Chrysler sales would be cut in half. Oh boy......

No they don't have consequences, at least not in this case. Bush bailed out GM with TARP funds. He made it all possible. You cant have a republican president that you (not you, I mean talk radio conservatives) call conservative for 6 years do this big government socialism stuff with democrats then claim it's all democrats doing it, and voters had a choice in the election.
McCain would have done the same thing as Bush if elected.
But at this point, on this board, I really see no reason for you to show up and expend so much energy bashing Republicans. I don't see you criticizing Obama -- I just see you saying "Bush's fault".

I guess we'll just wait again for Boehner to give us another "press release". How about him holding protests on the front steps of Capitol Hill or being on TV every other day complaining about it? Who are they afraid to offend? The Democrats? I feel like we're all alone fighting this, or is it just me?
I have been saying it will be the piece of "bling" around his neck like Flavor Flav's big watch. But it will be the GM symbol with a "Fiat 500" in it.
Yes, this can't and won't work, as much as I hate to say it. I know many good people still in GM and many retirees that will pay the price.

You really think trying to make it look like elected Republicans were fighting democrats socialism posted on a generally republican (naturally anti-Obama) website is going to accomplish anything? If posting inane party talking points here could win elections republicans would have won 2006+2008 landslides. We were told last year we couldnt go after Bush or Obama would win. Maybe republicans need some principled points so the voters can believe them once again. maybe the party needs to purge last years socialist leaders McConnel and Bayner.
Look at it this way. Being republican doesnt make it right even if they do some things you like. What did you think Obama would do when Bush bailed out GM with TARP? All of a sudden surprise and outrage. "How could this happen?" This was exactly what Bush setup for Obama.

I think that we've seen just how much our elected representatives care about us when, against overwhelming disapproval, they passed the first and subsequent bailouts as well as "porkulus". We don't matter any more.
Guess who is not going to be buying GM cars? 67% of the people. I was at a GM dealer this morning getting my Sierra 4X4, extended cab, Z-71 off road package inspected. The dealer and the sales people are not happy campers. They said that the company should have told Obama to stuff it and keep his damn money. My GMC pick up will be the last GM product I will buy. Time to buy some stock in Ford Motor Company.

Imagine back in 1977. Carter has a 70 some percent approval rating. Those who know were his policies are heading feel frustrated. They cannot understand what people are not seeing.
Like Carter was seen as cleaning up after Nixon’s mess BHO will be seen as cleaning up after GWB because of what he did in the last 8 years....for awhile.
