If you're the parent of a teen-aged boy in Florida, you probably muttered "not again" while reading your morning newspaper this week. There on the front page was yet another case of an adult female teacher being arrested for admitting to having had sex with an underage male student. This time the alleged perp was Maria Guzman Hernandez, a 32-year-old instructor at the private Our Lady of Charity school in Hialeah; her victim was 15. But she just as well could have been the 34-year-old Jacksonville public-school science teacher arrested last month for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student, once in her SUV; or the 32-year-old St. Petersburg teacher collared in March for allegedly "sexting" nude pictures of herself to an 8th-grade boy; or the 45-year-old teacher at a private Christian academy in South Daytona arrested days before for allegedly having sex with a boy from her class in various Daytona Beach hotels.

Other female teachers in Florida have been booked for the same crime this year — and scores of others have also been arrested or disciplined in the past few years for sexual misconduct with students, according to a recent investigation by the Orlando Sentinel, which noted the problem is rising in the state "among female educators in particular."

As long as there are willing males and females, it is doubtful this is really new news under the sun.

It used to be that students had enough respect for teachers and vice versa that they would not carry on together. Now it seems the rage for anybody to get laid with anybody.

“As long as there are willing males and females, it is doubtful this is really new news under the sun.”

There is nothing new under the sun. That being said, we are becoming a boundary less culture which is rotting from its own corruption from the inside out. This is our own creation and contrary to popular opinion, we do have a choice about what we create. Apparently, Americans didn’t give that much thought or bother to do their homework before the last election. They elected Obama: The Agent of Change. Little did they know, that the seeds of change that they had wrought in their stuporous ignorance would level the foundations of everything that they have known.

Throw the baby out with the bath water and have a nice day.

This statement embodies the very heart of what will one day be seen in 20/20 hindsight by nearly everyone on the planet.

This is the thing that I screamed in vain from the core of my being during the election.

And, I scream it even now. The People MUST remove the One Usurper from office before he's allowed to destroy the whole foundation of this country.

Another pit bull thread Chet?

Ok, got that bit of silliness out of the way and it's strangely inappropriate for my next comment on maturity. It must just be our societal arrest of emotional development that is causing so much of this. Of course the left is to blame, as they revel in rebelling against all authority, including adult maturity no matter how old they are.

If she were hot, she’d get house arrest.
If she were male, prison.

Are you saying there MAY be a double standard here for sexual predators?
Males get different sentences than the lady buggerers?
Shocked I am.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Something mentally ill about women who want to have sex with children. Female pedophiles. But the new hate crime act will protect her.

IBT *lucky boys* crowd.

But if it were a girl with a male teacher, he’d be locked away for life for rape and branded a pedophile.

The double standard is disgusting.

When I was in high school in the late 1960’s, I remember there was a teacher who invited some fellows from the football team to her home and put on a “fashion show” for them. It was all very hush-hush then, and she was dismissed but evidently this behavior is not new. However, I do believe it surfaced in the ‘60s when sexual freedoms were all the rage. Teachers were no longer made to retain a higher standard than those in other professions and as they had always done in the past. They were young, making a lot of money thanks to union strikes, and looking for fun. Forty years later, it undoubtedly has spread. We see only those cases that are prosecuted, there must be hundreds more unreported. A teacher, male or female, ought to be scrutinized in the same way as a pastor or priest is because their duty demands it.

It was wasn't new then either. The difference was/is mobility. Before the 50's you could expect to be around the same folks all of your life. A teacher making the beast with two backs with students is a lot more dangerous when you know the parents, they know you and most importantly, they know where you live.

That said, this stuff has *always* happened. It was just hushed up better.

Gee our friend Jesse didn't mention this in his ten reasons against homeschooling did he?

#11: Those geeky homeschooled kids don't get the real life experience of sleeping with their teachers

I wouldn’t be surprised if was actually rarer back then anyway.

Seems like people held themselves to higher standards then.

Not that it didn’t happen, just not to the degree we see today, even with the more open reporting of it.

Your postings would be much more readable if you edited out all the gobbledegook in them before posting. The entire first section needed to go. When you look at this on the "topics" page you can barely tell what the story is about.

Do a little more work in the future please.
