Giant feral pig shot on Pilbara cattle station (seen eating a cow)

THIS giant feral pig was shot on a Pilbara cattle station after it was spotted eating a dead cow.
The picture has been circulating on the internet alongside claims the boar was killed at various locations across Australia.
It was written off as a hoax by many, including WA's Department of Environment and Conservation, and sparked much debate when published on website PerthNow.
But The Sunday Times has confirmed that the pig was shot on a Pilbara cattle station near Newman, 1200km northeast of Perth.
Sources close to the family of the man in the photo have confirmed he is Pilbara pastoralist John Anick and the picture was taken on his property three years ago.
The family refused to talk about the giant boar earlier, for fear that illegal pig hunters would flock to the area.
The source said the 220kg beast was eating a cow when it was first seen by workers mustering cattle in a helicopter. Mr Anick saw it again on a trip to check windmills on the property and shot it.
"I can vouch 100 per cent, I don't even have to say 90 per cent, that it (the photo) was taken in the Pilbara and it is who I said it is," the source said.

Lots of debate here about this one, but growing consensus seems to be that it's not a hoax.

That’s a reasonable size for a pig. They’re not all petite like Arnold.

Just what we need...giant carnivorous pigs. If these things take hold, their gonna take the lion’s place as king of the jungle.

I don’t know why anyone would think it a hoax. I’ve seen boars as big or bigger on Iowa farms. Shoot, the big boars at the Iowa State Fair every year are bigger.

Boar meat is really rank.Proper handling and then sausage with plenty of sage, black and red pepper, thyme, and a few more ingredients that remain proprietary..... That's how you deal with dead pigs.
I lived through last winter on wild pig and the garden. Please to not disparage.

Pigs arent carnivores. Gosh, I guess I imagined all the times I saw pigs eat the dead bodies of other farm animals, including other pigs.
Pigs will eat anything that doesn't eat them first.

Believe me, I know. I’ve seen pigs eat everything from dead animals, rocks, pieces of wood, rope, and some sows will chase after you, tackle you down and eat you if you get close to their nest of babies.

Brick Top: And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it’s no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies’ digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don’t want to go sievin’ through pig shit, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, “as greedy as a pig”.

> Boar meat is really rank.
Only if you prepare it wrong.
Immediately after killing a boar it is imperative to chop off its goolies — even before you gut the boar. If you leave his goolies on, the meat will develop a rank flavor — like, within minutes.
Having attended to that, you can gut the boar.

A pig like that could come in handy. Just let the gitmo prisoners watch the “Hannibal” DVD and then put that pig in the room with them......

I think there's a superset/subset thing going on with the understanding of herbivore/carnivore/omnivore. An omnivore is clearly a member of the superset that includes carnivore.
Us omnivores, pigs, humans, and hollywood types all included.

Every once in a while, my dad would come home from shopping at the Packing House near our home and when he opened the bacon would get pi$$ed because you could smell it was Boar meat before you even cooked it...He could also tell if the pork was from a female is estrus by the smell...That man knew his farm meat by smell. I trust a pig farmer before a city boy anytime. No intent to disparage.
