Media Myth: Networks Ignore Trillion-Dollar Price Tag of Climate Cap Bill

Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill leaves committee while ABC, CBS, NBC remain silent.

The media love to fret over global warming, but now that a trillion-dollar scheme to address global warming could be just around the corner the networks have been curiously quiet.

On May 21, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed a bill to cap carbon emissions and create an artificial trading market. The network news media didn’t mention it, but critics say the legislation would be a “huge threat to American prosperity and freedom.”

The Heritage Foundation estimates that this bill, known as Waxman-Markey, would cost $9.6 trillion in GDP loss and over a million jobs by 2035, but the network news media ignored the bill and almost never explained the cap-and-trade policy it seeks to enact.

ABC, CBS and NBC didn’t mention passage of the Waxman-Markey bill or discuss cap-and-trade over Memorial Day weekend, despite a global summit about climate change that took place in Copenhagen May 24-26. That summit was in preparation for a December U.N. convention to create a global plan of action regarding climate change.

Great, another totally made-up investment device. Why is Madoff heading for jail but Gore testifies before Congress?

In January, 1933 after the death of President Paul Von Hindenberg, Hitler quietly over-rode the German Consitution with his henchmen in the Diet passing huge bills nobody could bother to read.

The media in Germany was first taken over by the Nazi party...there was nobody to report that the consitution was being abandoned.

I see some similarities.

Price tag means nothing when passing an agenda, especially from a Dem/Liberal perspective.

Consider the price tag that will come with Obamacare.
Consider that the Dems/Liberals continue to ignore the lessons to be learned from California and some other Dem/liberal dominated states.

Other examples can no doubt be provided.

The point is, this about agenda, not about the price tag to come with or is associated with that agenda.

According to The Heritage Foundation, cap-and-trade is always a “bad idea,” not only because of the huge economic burden, but also because of “lack of transparency and potential for fraud and abuse.” But Heritage specifically analyzed the draft version of the Waxman-Markey bill and estimated real GDP losses of $9.6 trillion as well as 1.1 million in job losses.

It will result in higher energy prices, job losses, strained disposable income and minimal environmental benefits. A lose-lose situation all around. The potential damage includes a rise of 101 to 129 percent for residential electricity and industrial natural gas price increases up to 244 percent. Stop the madness.

Where the Hell is the Republican Party on this? Oppose this crapola, and I mean REALLY oppose it instead of “offering to make it better” or “add tax credits” or some other RINOesque bullsh!t. Furthermore state governments should exercise their 10th Amendment rights and say they will not abide by this.

The media is not interested in news they’re interested in advancing the leftist political cause.

Not at all. Its a stealth tax on an imaginary issue. It will make enviros jump for joy and make blue collar folks more dependent than ever on Government for their livelihood. It will generate trillions of dollars in taxes. Look for politicians to start personally lining their pockets too—I’d buy stock in Swiss Banks. And the MSM will be totally silent.

Remember how concerned the media was about Starr spending 40 million to prosecute Clinton? The way they talked about it, you'd think it was coming out of their very own pockets.

This cap and tax proposal will benifet both the Treasury and shady investment firms.

This, and the proposed increases in income taxes, VAT’s, and forcing states to increase their taxes will crush our economy.
