McCain: Both parties to blame for US woes [attacks the GOP]

Elections have consequences.
Like a stand-up comedian trying to push a catchphrase, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., kept coming back to that statement during an hour-long town hall gathering Tuesday in Marana.
Whether it was efforts being made to turn around the economy, President Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court or U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi's CIA allegations, McCain told the crowd of more than 200 people at the Marana Municipal Complex that today's America is a direct result of last November's voting. But rather than place all the blame on the ruling Democratic Party, McCain said Republicans were just as much at fault yet as a whole they haven't fully accepted that consequence.
"We Republicans let spending get out of control, and we paid a very heavy price in the election," McCain said, adding that Republicans "are in step 1 of a 12-step program. We're still in denial. We need to move on from that."

No, Juan. The GOP is not to blame. Insipid RINOs like you, however, are squarely at fault. |

"We Republicans let spending get out of control, and we paid a very heavy price in the election," McCain said, adding that Republicans "are in step 1 of a 12-step program. We're still in denial. We need to move on from that." He's absolutely correct in this statement. McCain's problem, however, is that he fails utterly to make the connection between his and other RINOs' progressive philosophy is at the root of the problem.
The clear disconnect in his thinking is almost comical....almost.

Out of control?? What control? McCain is a phony but he is right about republicans in this context, including himself. I guess he figures all those poor uneducated illegals being legal under his amnesty plan would demand limited government.

Exactly. McCain is telling a half-truth here. The progressives that have infiltrated the party are to blame.
If he would add in what should be the second part of his argument here, he would espouse the benefits of promoting freedom and liberty. He won’t do that because it runs counter to his own progressive philosophy.
So we get these disjointed, disconnected statements (in terms of the disconnect between his own philosophy and what he is arguing) from him on a regular basis.

I really don't understand all this pathetic hand-wringing. This huge "spending" issue is a figment of the Democrat attack machine to demoralize the GOP voters into thinking their team is corrupt. Looks like it worked on you.
When shouldn't members of Congress bring home projects for their districts?
Isn't that why they're sent to Washington?
Aren't Congressmen supposed to fight for their share of the federal budget?
Suddenly it's unforgivable because the Democrats call it "Republican spending"?
This is the phoniest issue since "acid rain".
Snap out of it.

The domestic federal budget increased dramatically under Bush. No Child Left Behind is only one example.
Did the Republicans from 2001 through 2008 live up to the Contract With America?
No.
Did Bush threaten one veto over wasteful spending? No.
No offense to you or other Republicans, but we did a poor job of keeping spending under control in those years.
Just my opinion.

Congressmen shouldn’t bring home projects for their districts because most of that spending is unconstitutional. The Constitution states, in Article I, Section 8, all of the powers of Congress. That section doesn’t state that Congress may authorize spending for local police departments, education, commuter train systems, or housing projects, so all of that spending is unconstitutional. However, many congressmen, including my congressmen, Mark Kirk (RINO-IL), ensure that the federal government spends millions of dollars, in their district, for those unconstitutional, expensive projects.
No, that’s not why they’re sent to Washington. They’re sent there to obey the Constitution, which gave few powers to the federal government.
To: rabscuttle385
"We Republicans let spending get out of control, and we paid a very heavy price in the election," McCain said, adding that Republicans "are in step 1 of a 12-step program. We're still in denial. ..."
And who suspended his campaign to rush to Washington to renegotiate that $700 Billion bailout bill? Oh yeh, it was John McCain.
And who helped tack on an additional $185 Billion in perks and pork for his colleagues? Oh yeh, it was John McCain.
==
Yet, now he has the gall to lecture others on the US/GOP woes?
