SOME of America’s leading billionaires have met secretly to consider how their wealth could be used to slow the growth of the world’s population and speed up improvements in health and education.
The philanthropists who attended a summit convened on the initiative of Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, discussed joining forces to overcome political and religious obstacles to change.
Described as the Good Club by one insider it included David Rockefeller Jr, the patriarch of America’s wealthiest dynasty, Warren Buffett and George Soros, the financiers, Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, and the media moguls Ted Turner and Oprah Winfrey.
These members, along with Gates, have given away more than £45 billion since 1996 to causes ranging from health programmes in developing countries to ghetto schools nearer to home.
They gathered at the home of Sir Paul Nurse, a British Nobel prize biochemist and president of the private Rockefeller University, in Manhattan on May 5. The informal afternoon session was so discreet that some of the billionaires’ aides were told they were at “security briefings”.
Stacy Palmer, editor of the Chronicle of Philanthropy, said the summit was unprecedented. “We only learnt about it afterwards, by accident. Normally these people are happy to talk good causes, but this is different – maybe because they don’t want to be seen as a global cabal,” he said.

Why all the secrecy? “They wanted to speak rich to rich without worrying anything they said would end up in the newspapers, painting them as an alternative world government,” he said.

Just help Governments analyze each person’s genome and if found defective in any way, declare that person a fetus. Problem solved. Also, people over 50 are on their way out, so to speak, why not give them a gentle shove.
Nobody appointed them to this task, but they’re going to get involved anyway. And I’m kind of glad to see them start to face the population issue again.
The calculus of an ever-growing world population that is entitled to be given equal share of whatever lifestyle the developed world achieves is—as hard as it is for Freepers to read—unsustainable. It is a political, economic and ecologic disaster.

The only “overpopulation” which should be controlled is of liberals. Thankfully so many of them turn gay or have abortions that their poisonous ideas die with them.
Actually, statistics show that wealthy peoples (as measured by per capita GNP) tend also to have the lowest fertility rates.
And wealth strongly correlates with health (as measured by any number of parameters, such as health spending, life expectancy, etc.) - think "typical Nigerian" vs. "typical Scandinavian" or "typical Japanese."
Thus, these billionaires are on the right track: Raise the overall prosperity and health of a society, and you will likely also reduce its fertility.

The oligarchy’s goal is to decrease the population forcably down to 200 million world wide. That would have been less than the USA’s population in 1974.

Studies have shown that when a woman loses one child, she has 1.5 kids to replace them - causing child mortality to be more than compensated for.
And when parents are almost certain their children will grow up, they have fewer of them. If you have 99% grow up, you’re willing to have just 1 or 2. If only 50% grow up, no one intentionally has just 1 or 2 if they want kids to grow up.

Speaking of abortion, I did some figuring yesterday. Since the 19th century, I am estimating that there have been over 1 BILLION abortions worldwide. That is 1/6th of the world population.

obama care will solve the population problem, if there is one, in the United States. He will tale care of the young,the middle aged, and the old.
It will be by a aborino for the young. The middle will be though starvation when he destroys the farms and rations food, the old will be taken care of by denying medical attention.

There is still a valid point that given certain adjustments, the world could easily sustain several times the current population with everyone having plenty to eat and other modern benefits.
