Unemployment 20% Higher in Democrat Strongholds
wnd.com ^ | May 23, 2009 | Jerome R. Corsi

Unemployment in April remained 20 percent higher in states won by Democratic candidate Barack Obama in last fall's presidential election than in states won by Republican candidate John McCain, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics released yesterday.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate went from 8.5 percent in March to 8.9 percent in April.

WND previously reported that if unemployment numbers in the states won by Obama do not begin improving soon, the Democratic Party may face the prospect of 2010 mid-term election losses in both governor races and in Congress.

A national telephone survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports has found significant Democratic Party losses and Republican Party gains over the past year in a generic congressional ballot.

Currently, the GOP and Democratic Party are vying at 40 percent to 39 percent for leadership in the Rasmussen-conducted generic congressional ballot.

Over the past year, Rasmussen has reported that Democratic support has dropped from a high of 50 percent and Republican support has risen from a low of 34 percent.

Numerical order for Red and for Blue would make more sense than alphabetical for each, I think.

There are probably other factors, such as the Blue States offer higher welfare benefits and longer running unemployment benefits (which is one of the reasons some Blue States are going broke). Why would lazy folks in those states rush out to find a job when they could stay home and get generous welfare and unemployment benefits? These folks aren't going to switch to the GOP any time soon.

So some of it is reflective of the economic situation in the state, but that's not the whole picture.

See it graphically by county:

Look at it dynamically, month by month.

This is where the riots in the streets will start. Obozo should worry more about those he duped, than about us Red Necks.

In my sons workplace there were Omama fans who believed 100% that once he was elected a check was going to show up in the mail evey week and they could stop working for “these crappy wages”. These lefty’s would be in tears when he had to explain the economic reality of such foolish linking. Most were single moms or young college part timers.

The Black unemployment rate for April was 15% and the Hispanic rate was 11.3%. The reality is that it is probably much higher than the BLS figures show. So how is that hope and change thing going for ya? I hear nary a peep from the black and hispanic caucuses about this. Wonder why?

Well, maybe NEXT time they vote for a Democrat, the checks will come. I suspect they'll keep trying.

Of course, if the Republican party just focused on educating the public on principles of personal property and personal liberty and personal responsibility, then maybe some voters would get a clue. But I won't hold my breath.

I don’t get it. According to Glen Beck, there is no difference. That’s why we need a 3rd party - an independent candidate could peel off libertarian-leaning and secular/fiscal conservatives from the GOP (and hand Obama a landslide victory!!).

One thing I have learned is that no one ever wakes up in the morning and says "I am an Idiot!". When unemployment hits 30-40% they will start rioting looking for all the evil Republicans who put them in their predicament. They will never admit it was the like-minded losers they voted for.

In 1982, the Republicans lost a lot of seats in the house. Traditionally, this has been blamed on higher unemployment. However, I’ve read pretty convincing articles that the real reason was actually 1980 redistricting. In the senate, Republicans didn’t lose any seats in 1982. (An independent seat went Dem, and then in 1983, Republicans won a special election).

Someone was quoted recently that rolling back privatization would provide 600,000 new government jobs. Not NEW jobs, government jobs. (Sorry I don’t remember who said it.)

What does the Republican Party do to educate the public about their basic principles. Nothing that I’m aware of.

The Democrat party spends BILLIONS on selling their point of view. They do it through a mechanism called Government Schools.

Not really a surprise with left wing governors, left wing legislators and left wing mediots pushing anti business liberalism 24/7/365.

We “ain’t” seen nothing as the unions in these blue states will be pushing some pretty out rageous demands.

One I can’t identify yet due to negotions and no documentation. Apparently, the union that services specific businesses statewide lost a lot of pension funds during the economic meltdown. So now they are demanding that the employers make up the losses and even fund the losses from this year and following years due to the fund being down last year and this year.

Great chart, but a clarification is needed.

According to the title, the information is from April 2009. But the source at the bottom states, "U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Unemployment Rates for States, March 2008.

Oops! Even the US Bureau of Labor Statistics couldn't come up with 2009 numbers in 2008. Please clarify. Thanks.

Just MHO...

IF David Littman is right (former Economist for Comerica) MI will be 17 to 20% by the end o the year. Even thought it is one state, my guess id OH and IN will increase as well to really skew the numbers much higher for the Blue States.

Well I guess all those “green jobs” haven't quite
materialized yet. But the IRS is needing help due to
plans for stepped up collection compliance enforcement
under Obama’s administration. As private sector jobs
decrease, government sector jobs will increase. And
more money can always printed to pay for them. As well
as welfare and “extended” unemployment “benefits”.
You've just got to love it!

Bad economic news is always good news for Democrats.

When the economy tanks and people lose their jobs, homes, and savings, they become dependent on government handouts and eventually become addicted to government handouts. And, just as drug addicts keep going back to their dealers for a fix, government addicts likewise keep going back to THEIR dealers. That would be their Democrat politicians. A tanking economy means more government addicts and therefore more votes for THEM.

Sabotaging the economy is job #1.

This ain’t rocket surgery.....

"unemployment rate"

Unless Obama start his make-work program and gets these people jobs digging holes and filling them in again, these people will still be unemployed one, two, four years from now. Because the great majority of them do not possess skills that make them employable. Like you, I'm sure many of them are expecting manna from heaven. When the manna does not fall, then what? Will they lose faith in The Grand Redistributor? I'd bet not.

This report finds that immigrants have been hit somewhat harder by the current recession than have native-born Americans. Immigrants (legal and illegal) now have significantly higher unemployment than natives. This represents a change from the recent past, when native-born Americans typically had higher unemployment rates. The picture is complex, with the least and most educated immigrants experiencing the largest increases in unemployment relative to natives. However, the least educated immigrants still have a lower unemployment rate than their native-born counter parts.
