Poor Mexico! I think they did make a lot of improvements in their building codes (and, hopefully, the buildings themselves!) after that terrible earthquake some years ago. Mexico City is built on highly unstable soil.

Stupid geologic question: Is the Mexico City fault line in any way connected to the California fault line that has had two small earthquakes in the past week?

Probably not, but it makes one wonder...

I think it is, but get up on Cal Tech-Pasadena and find Lucy Jones comments.
She is one smart lady and I do believe that the is a connection of the fault lines.

The USGS is calling it Puebla, Mexico. A 5.7 event, at the moment anyway.
