Did House Speaker Nancy Pelosi step into a political quagmire during her press conference on the Bush Administration's torture tactics? Yes. Will President Obama's agenda lose momentum now that this "who said what and when" drama will suck oxygen out of the presidents tailwind? Almost certainly. Will there now be some type of independent commission established to investigate the treatment of war prisoners during the Bush/Cheney reign? Count on it. Who will suffer the greatest political damage from all this? Without question the Republican Party.

Pelosi opened her big yap and stuck her designer pump clad foot in it and the Democrats know it. Otherwise, how else do you explain her ducking and dodging questions about the CIA briefings? And of course the Spooks aren't going to fall on the sword for anybody, least of Madame Speaker.
None of which, incidentally, will actually drive the 2010 election results. Those will be dominated by the simple question, how much has the economy healed by then? If the answer is a lot, the Dems will lose little or nothing. All the ventilating and bloviating of the entire chattering class for years will not matter a tenth as much as 1% more or less on the unemployment rate a month before election day.

Unfortunately, he’s probably right, in a sense. If the situation were reversed, as we’ve seen in the past, the dims would be howling for the speakers blood and immediate resignation.
As this case seems to show, the republicans in D.C. are too scared to do anything more than cower, as in they are a bunch of pussies.
Democrats are painting Republicans as a bunch of square old men who are not living in the year 2009 but 1970. Democrats do not believe Republicans understand the younger vote enough to attract younger voters.

I started to read the entire article until I noticed that Beckel had written it. He is the most vile and worthless of the liberal talking heads IMO. He is a would-be tough, intellectual light weight and a partisan hack.

Why wouldn’t Americans care, since rats have insisted that it matters what every little office boy working during the Bush administration knew, and when they knew it? Why do they only become so cavalier about facts, intelligence, etc, when it’s one of theirs under the bright light?
