U.S. Gas Fields Go From Bust to Boom CADDO PARISH, La. -- A massive natural-gas discovery here in northern Louisiana heralds a big shift in the nation's energy landscape. After an era of declining production, the U.S. is now swimming in natural gas.
Even conservative estimates suggest the Louisiana discovery -- known as the Haynesville Shale, for the dense rock formation that contains the gas -- could hold some 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That's the equivalent of 33 billion barrels of oil, or 18 years' worth of current U.S. oil production. Some industry executives think the field could be several times that size.
"There's no dry hole here," says Joan Dunlap, vice president of Petrohawk Energy Corp., standing beside a drilling rig near a former Shreveport amusement park.

America needs energy independence!
I’m sure there will be some kind of worm or mosquito that must be saved in order to prevent any action.

Ain’t going to happen. The Democrat Party will see to that.
What is going to happen is ten dollar gasoline, when you can get it.
you betcha..they’ll find the yellow-lipped, red-breasted, short legged farkle frog and declare it an endangered species..
Quick, label the land enviromentally sensitive and shut it down. /sarc

Didn’t see this on any network news...not even Fox. I’d think this was as newsworthy as the Miss CA debacle or Sarah Palin’s book deal.
I hate the msm.
That's an awful lot of roughnecks, equipment manufacturers, service providers and small supply companies that are hurting right now.
Rotary Rigs Actually Making Hole
It's hard to sell equipment when there are 900 spares of everything sitting idle on the ground.
The ocean floors also contain vast amounts of carbon based energy.
Japan is way ahead of us on that score.
The USA has more oil and gas then the middle east. There are no surprise finds, we know its there.
The problem is our government will not allow us to drill and get it and we must be punished for our previous success and our money must be distributed to the world.
Energy policy for liberals is NO ENERGY.
Good news. Maybe not it won’t cost me $250 a month to keep my house at 68 degrees.
Uh oh. Now the Democrats have to hurry and come up with a new plan to prevent access to this!
The Democrats do not want us to be energy-independent; they want us to be government-dependent. I’d predict that some microscopic organism’s natural habitat will be found to outweigh human freedom and economic development.
not=now, typo.
I'm sure they will find some reason...
Can we sell it to China to pay off our debt?
Quick put it in the U.N. Land Bank and make it off limits to America.
I’m sure we will do everything we can to not use it. In a sensible world, most people would hear such news, and would consider it to be a very good thing. Not here.
We are the only country in the world that would be so stupid....

Yeah. Obummer has been pushing natural gas, but if he hears that that might lead toward energy independence, he will certainly reverse course.
“Cows fall dead near Caddo Parish gas well”

If Obama has his way you will not be allowed to have your house at 68 degrees.
Natural gas is a great fuel for auto’s, trucks and buses.
We already have a distribution pipeline system..and you can compress it locally to make CNG.
Please..no more windmills. Let’s spend that money on nucs.
Good news ping.
You watch that ****er declare it off limits.
Watch for Hussein & Friends to declare the entire area a “natural wildlife area” and thus, make sure that not a single cubic foot of it ever reached American homes, offices, factories or power stations.
Quick, Quick; airdrop an endangered reptile into the area immediately.
Secession and energy independence for Alaska, Texas, and now Louisiana?
“You watch that ****er declare it off limits.”
GUAREN’ D@MN TEED
Do you have any idea how old this news is?
WOW THAT is alot of Red beans and Rice!
Massive alien cow mutilations, for sure.
The find is huge and actually extends into east TX (I think as far as DFE) and a tick up into AR. The Kenyon, no doubt, will take it out of commercial production while he studies the impact that it will have on our friends in the Middle East.
I’m sure Obama will do the right thing and cap that well.
We can convert our vehicles to natural gas. Keep jobs in America, no more paying OPEC, and natural gas is much cleaner and better for vehicles than oil.
Does this mean they’ll start calling Jindal “Palin lite”?????
Maybe we can get a natural gas for food program out of it...
To pretend to be able to provide for a continent the energy needed to supply 300 million people and the world's biggest economy with windmills is, well, quixotic.
Obviously the Obama administration has an entirely different agenda than energy independence.
Shirley you jest!
Our domestic resident nutjobs, who seem to have taken over the country while the rest of us were "enjoying life" will come up with an endangered poison wasp (or worm or fish or whatever it takes to persuade a drunk, ignorant druggie judge somewhere) and the whole celebration will be turned into years of playing "whack-a-mole."
I'm not celebrating --- just yet.
Remember, an environmental impact study will take years before they let them tap any of this. And they always have the Wetlands Protection Act to fall back on.
They should have just tapped it and not told anyone.
Don't forget about the yellow-spined micro-penis tax-happy Lib-shit human leader.
Kind of strangely coincidental how endangered species keep showing up in areas other life forms avoid.
Quick, obie! Your people need to find a way to neutralize this!!! Can’t have good news like this. Tax them. Get the EPA on them. PETA. Anyone, anything. This is a disaster.
Signed,
Algore and friends
More than three worms, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Waxman and Schumer, to name a few!
When you read the comments section to your great post you would think that this find is closed or not yet producing, but the truth is in the article and other searches about Haynesville, which is almost 2 years old now. This find plus the Barnett Shale in the Fort Worth area is so huge that gas prices are dropping and the companies like Cheasapeak are holding off drilling while the wait for more markets. Great Post... too bad some folks don’t read the articles.
You think that's funny?
In the 60s and 70s, when Barbara Bouncer was still a very small fish in an even smaller pond, there was the "salt marsh harvest mouse."
Magnificent marina developments were proposed which went bankrupt because of the either extinct or endangered rodent. No one had ever seen one. But they kept popping up, "found," every time a new marina development was proposed.
After a while, many of us were convinced that the wack-jobs were secretely raising the little critters and turning them loose where necessary to "stop" housing choices for people. Either that, or the little suckers were as extinct as cockroaches.
Just saying.
Too true.
Too too true.
