Resuscitating the GOP 2: The Brand

“And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.” — Mark 3:25

It is both reasonable and fair to ask reformers of the Republican Party - those suggesting that we jettison the right wing and seek the gooey center of American politics — exactly how many of their convictions they are willing to compromise in pursuit of electoral success. It is also fair and reasonable to ask whether the people can truly admire or trust any public servant that is willing to sacrifice their convictions upon the altar of political power.

[1]

Party reformers are quick to point to the Democratic Party model that has proved successful, to whit: silencing the far left of their party and supporting centrist or blue dog candidates. Or so they say. The list of pro-life, pro-family, pro-second amendment, Global warming skeptic democrats in party leadership positions is very short indeed.

More significantly, a new liberal by any other name is, well, still a new liberal. The bed-sheets in the white house had barely been changed before the newly empowered party approved new funding for abortions internationally and...

I envy the Left in one regard... they demand purity from their representatives and they're getting it.

And - surprise - they don't have ankle-biting "moderates" weighing them down like proverbial boat anchors.

It is much easier to do the wrong thing than the right thing.

The GOP has to continually hammer the left on being the party of wishes and dreams - and little else. Everything they do has to be denigrated as coming from a fantasy schoolyard world where giving people things will make them our friends, and people constantly live in their heads and not in the real world.

And then they have to stop living like that themselves.

I agree they're wrong, but I do not agree doing the right this is more difficult.

It has only been made to seem that way.

The GOP is a sham party whose only purpose is to provide an illusion of choice. America is ruled by an elite oligarchy comprising wealthy families like the Kennedys & Bushes, wealthy corporate and finance kings like Soros and Bill Gates, media conglomerates providing propaganda services, and marxist ideologues. The GOP is a lapdog of the elites, ever eager to provide losing candidates in return for scraps of legitimacy and celebrity.

Let’s get one thing straight: The survival of the Republican party is not at all what matters. What IS important is the survival of our ideals - individual freedom, right to life, limited Federal government intrusions into our lives, low taxes, less regulation, protecting States’ rights, respect for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 10th amedments to the Constitution, limited Federal spending, and no lousy government-run schools or health care programs. This are some of the reasons hundreds of thousands of us supported those Tea Parties. To hell with moderates.

I guess if you go to the lefty blogs there is a fair amount of complaining about Dear Leader fighting the release of the photos and other complaints about lefties not being "progressive" enough.

But I agree, since the media and the popular culture seem to lean left...it's easy to be a lefty.

Well, as many centrists here like to point out, RWR didn't always win for the conservatives. But he never failed to make an attempt.

Agreed, the GOP is not really the important issue. But since the GOP once may have been the closest party to protecting and advancing our "ideals"...

The GOP is not going away as a party, but it may leave the liberty loving conservatives.

I really don't want to have to build a 3rd party to challenge the Dems. It is more effective to steer the GOP away from the left and back to where it needs to be.

I once knew some people who stated, “Look, you can’t have everything you want. You need to go with the guy who will get you 80% of what you want.” And I said NO!

Here is why. It would only take ten election cycles to destroy close to 90% of what we believe in.

The reason is, if you only defend 80% of your beliefs each election cycle, then you lose 20% of your beliefs each election cycle and defend only what is left.

At 80% support for your beliefs, you lose just shy of 70% of your core beliefs, in just five election cycles.

Does that sound like a winning strategy.

We must stop giving even one inch to the left.

1 100.00 80% 80.00
2 80.00 80% 64.00
3 64.00 80% 51.20
4 51.20 80% 40.96
5 40.96 80% 32.77
6 32.77 80% 26.21
7 26.21 80% 20.97
8 20.97 80% 16.78
9 16.78 80% 13.42
10 13.42 80% 10.74

The Colin Powell’s of the world would like us to moderate as a means to attain electoral victory. Since the democrats have done just that, namely, attained absolute electoral victory, surely they must have moderated. Just one thing, can anyone give me an example of where the democrats have moderated? One example? Anyone? Hmmm.

Yep. Elections are for Rs and Ds taking their turn at the gang bang. We are the “Bangee” unless and until we find the courage and a truly effective means of “banging back”.

Excellent point - I see you've given this some thought...

To me, its like handing your teenager a condom while telling them its your wish they save themselves for marriage - the implication is we expect our leaders to disappoint us and that its OK.

What IS important is the survival of our ideals

Even more important is the survival of our Nation, right now I have little confidence that this country will survive as a Sovereign Nation.

Thanks, and I agree with your comments.

What we need to do, is develop the Lutherian document and nail it to the RNC door in Washington, D.C.

There are certain core beliefs, and we expect a faithful adherence to them.

“a new liberal by any other name is, well, still a new liberal”
Or a Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard, globalist `neo-con’, bravely battling the hairy-knuckled, protectionist, racist vigilantes in his own party.

GOP chairman Michael “Empathy” Steele might as well have said:

“Won’t some one—Oh, the humanity!—think of the children ... ?!”
