HAVERHILL Keni Garcia told police he intended to use the 30,000 bullets they found in his car and home for target practice.
That is hard to believe, the prosecutor at Garcia's arraignment said, because if he were to fire a gun for eight hours a day, it would take weeks for him to use all of it.
Garcia, who allegedly bought thousands of rounds of ammunition and had 10,000 bullets in his car when he was stopped by police Thursday, was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail yesterday.
I’m not sure, but I think that I am fairly close to this number.
Ammunition hoarder!!!
Well, it’s a good start.
Exactly what crime is he accused of?
What’s the crime for which he’s being required to post this half a million in bond?
Practice makes perfect.
“Whats the crime for which hes being required to post this half a million in bond?”
He lives in Massachusetts.
Is it illegal to have that much ammo?
If not, this is blasphemy.
What grounds do police have to arrest someone collecting a perfectly legal product?
Why was he stopped—and what do they imagine he was going to do with the ammo, besides shoot it up?
Is there a limit to how much ammo you can legally have?
Does the average SEAL team fire that much in a year?
They think he is buying the ammunition to bring it to the Dominican Republic to sell it. Other than that, I don’t know.
If there is not something more to this story this is outrageous.
Only corrupt governments fear armed law abiding citizens...oh, this is Massachusetts.
Nevermind.
sagging springs....
WTF?! A half mil for owning alot of ammo? Methinks there’s more to this.
I think I must have that much in various .22 rimfire alone. Actually over 90% of my ammo is .22. Nearly all of the .22LR fit into a single .50 cal ammo can. It is so heavy I can’t lift it. I am in the process of moving and had to have two teenage boys lift it.
I clicked the link and read the story. Apparently they think he was sending this stuff out of the country, had more than one driver’s license and was not a citizen.
Was he Amish?
Garcia is a native of the Dominican Republic who was expected to become a U.S. citizen yesterday, but then he was arrested, authorities said...
The prosecutor said all of the bullets seized from Garcia were for .38-caliber, 9 mm and .22-caliber firearms. Such ammunition is “like gold in the Dominican Republic,” he said.
Too bad he has only “bullets.” 30,000 cartridges is a decent start on a good ammo supply.
About the only thing I can see that he's guilty of is scaring a mob of Massachusetts liberals right out of their red diapers.
Am I subject to a $500,000 cash bail if I can't?
What's wrong with this picture?
So he’s guilty of being a savvy capitalist?
Dollar going down, stocks going down, I would buy that much ammo as an investment in the future.
Apparently the MASS prosecutor is contending that the man, who was supposed to have become a citizen the day after his arrest, was going to ship the ammo to the Dominican Republic for sale...although there is no evidence of that other than the man is originally from the Dominican Republic.
They found 10,000 rounds in his car and another 20,000 at his home. And here's another catcher...they also found 25,000 in cash at his home and confiscated it.
Draconian, guilty unitl proven innocent tactics not worthy of the United States of America...not to mention the conflict of interest for law enforcement on the cash.
His lawyer is arguing that no law was broken and that by law he had 60 days to get his firearms registered in MASS.
FTA:
“Garcia is charged with three counts of possession of a high-capacity firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal storage of a firearm.”
“The prosecutor said all of the bullets seized from Garcia were for .38-caliber, 9 mm and .22-caliber firearms.”
“Where is the crime?” [Attorney Socrates de la Cruze] la Cruz asked. The lawyer said Garcia had lived in New Hampshire for three years before recently moving to Haverhill.”
“He bought the guns legally,” de la Cruz said. “He never hid the fact that he had them.”
“Furthermore, de la Cruz said that when Garcia moved to Haverhill, he had a 60-day grace period to obtain a Massachusetts firearms card.”
“There is no crime committed,” he argued, saying there was no evidence that Garcia was shipping guns or ammunition to the Dominican Republic.”
All target practice, nothing more.
That’s $50/bullet for his bail. 10,000 bullets in his car and he gets $500,000 bail.
Conspiracy to commit capitalism .... my guess.
More to this I think.
Exactly! See my post 28.
By tomorrow this will be tied to the shadowy US/Mexican gun runners and be the CNN/MSNBC orgasm of the day.
This looks like a BS charge by a prosecutor who, as Freeper knarf says, is wanting to make a criminal of that dastardly ammunition and insinuate that the man is also a captialist.
NOT GUILTY!
It looks like they will get gunowners one at a time with these same tactics while everyone stands around and watches. My advice would be that if you have money or ammo in abundance squirreled away, move it into safe areas in small lots.
He is not Guilty of Breaking any Law...
show your objection by buying more ammo...and Give some to Him.
the time is near.
same here. 30 thou huh, well that holds me until about noon most trips to the ‘therapy facility’.
This sounds like one of those stories where someone is arrested on suspicion of being a bomb maker, because he has “electronic parts and chemicals that could be used to make a bomb.” Except that he is an electronics technician by trade, and his bomb making chemicals are Sani-flush, Drano, and a gallon can of gasoline he uses to fill his lawn mower.
It's a standard technique in any police state.
Prima facie evidence of criminal intent. Guilty.
It isn’t as much as it sounds.
Someone could blow off 500 rounds shooting with a friend for a few hours.
Letsee, I think I’ve got somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000-5000 rounds. Is there a limit? I need to know so I can make sure I’ve over it.
I’ve come home with over 12k rounds and run out within months. I shoot at least 100 rounds every day, or every other day at the least.
What did they arrest him for? Surely not for having the ammo. Why in he** do reporters always print “bullets” when they mean ammo?
That’s funny, that’s the same thing my husband told me after I reached the 4000 mark. He said, do you know how long it would take to use all those? I have since added another 800 rounds. So there.
When I was younger I used to fire 6,000 rounds of 30-06 ammo alone. That’s not counting the .22 and various pistol ammo I would shoot up target practicing. 30,000 rounds just isn’t that big of an amount and it cannot be the reason he was arrested. Many people in the US own that much ammo and some even more.
