Well, yes, Jeff, I kinda figuredf our differences were of degree. And I figured that bootless perspective was from this side, that is finding out what these people came here for. Nevertheless, I think it is important to distinguish between what the Spaniards under Franco (authoritarian) lacked and what Poles under Stalin’s puppets lacked, before we arrive at the answer to the question what they came for here. Spain was livable, why, tolerable, laws whatever they were, were observed, property rights observed, right of exit observed. Etc, etc...
Thank you, Jeff. I am proud to be part Polish, and I know that if the US needed some backup, that the brave Poles would have our six.
Do California and Massachusetts count?

If I’m assuming (uh oh) correctly, you may be drawing parallel ties between my choice of descriptions (authoritarian, totalitarian) and the few countries that I listed. That is not the case.
The bottom line for the book is: What it was like living in a country that was not free, what it’s been like living in a country that has an original tradition of freedom, what they see happening, and what *they believe should be done.
I must emphasize this is not an historical treatise or political science dissertation.
They may. (no grin)
Thanks for your kind words, and for your recommendations. I will look into them.
best...
