One of the principle claims made in Diane Sawyer's rigged campus carry experiment, recently aired on ABC's 20/20, was that having a gun wouldn't protect a college student, that ordinary people like college students aren't trained to handle stress, that they might shoot innocent people, and that the bad guy might take their gun away.
Apparently someone forgot to tell a student in College Park, GA that they were better off without having a gun ready at hand...and at least ten college students say they are alive today because of it.
From Atlanta, Georgia's WSBTV:
A group of college students said they are lucky to be alive and they're thanking the quick-thinking of one of their own. Police said a fellow student shot and killed one of two masked me who burst into an apartment.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones met with one of the students to talk about the incident.
"Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all," said student Charles Bailey.
Bailey said he thought it was the end of his life and the lives of the 10 people inside his apartment for a birthday party after two masked men with guns burst in through a patio door.
"They just came in and separated the men from the women and said, 'Give me your wallets and cell phones,'" said George Williams of the College Park Police Department.
Bailey said the gunmen started counting bullets. "The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough," said Bailey.
The story says that's when one student grabbed a gun out of a backpack and shot at the invader who was watching the men. The gunman ran out of the apartment.
The student then ran to the room where the second gunman, identified by police as 23-year-old Calvin Lavant, was holding the women.
"Apparently the guy was getting ready to rape his girlfriend. So he told the girls to get down and he started shooting. The guy jumped out of the window," said Bailey.
A neighbor heard the shots and heard someone running nearby.
"And I heard someone say, 'Someone help me. Call the police. Somebody call the police,'" said a neighbor.
The neighbor said she believes it was Lavant, who was found dead near his apartment, only one building away.
Bailey said he is just thankful one student risked his life to keep others alive.
"I think all of us are really cognizant of the fact that we could have all been killed," said Bailey.
One female student was shot several times, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Police told the media they are close to making the arrest of the second suspect.
Meanwhile, back in Ohio, officials at The Ohio State University say that the increasingly high level of street-level crimes - thefts, robberies, assaults and break-ins - in the University District is no coincidence. In fact, criminals are targeting students specifically because they know they'll be defenseless.
From OSU's The Lantern:
"What we're seeing is a shift into the university area where [criminals] are finding that students are an easy target," said Tom Wildman, the Code Enforcement & Safety Committee chair of the University Area Commission.
In the past six months, 680 street-level crimes were committed in the district, according to a Lantern analysis of crime data from crimereports.com, which takes its information from the Columbus Division of Police. These statistics include only the off-campus areas of the district, and not the OSU campus itself.
These numbers dwarf the statistics for Columbus' less densely populated core downtown area, which tallied 301 street-level crimes over the past six months, according to crimereports.com data.
Ohio is one of at least eight states that have had bills pending in the current legislative session which are designed to restore students' self-defense rights on college campuses.
Campus carry legislation has already been signed into law during the current legislative session in North Dakota. In Missouri, the House of Representatives has already passed campus carry legislation, and hearings are now being held in the Senate. A campus carry bill is currently stalled in Indiana's Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Oklahoma legislature allowed that state's campus carry bill to die for this session. Things are going better in the Tennessee House House Judiciary subcommittee, where hearings have been held on a Vol State campus carry bill. Hearings on campus carry legislation are also being held in both chambers of the Texas legislature.
Back in the Buckeye State, Rep. John Adam's HB129 has yet to receive a hearing. And the students of Ohio's campuses continue to pay the price in the loss of blood and treasure.

IBTP!!!!!! WHOO HOO!!!!
Give the guy a medal.
Not sure if you’ve seen this, but I thought I’d post it on a banglist thread. It’s only 3 min long.

Liberals are flabbergasted over the whole concept of “self defense”. After all, they’ve insisted on raising a generation or two in the “zero tolerance” environment of public schools.
It never dawns on the liberal media that had the police responded to the incident in progress, they would have surrounded the apartment and established negotiations with the bad guys, provided they could interest them in pausing their rape / murder plans long enough to engage in witty banter over their rights and demands.
The American legal system usually finds opportunity in such imbalance. It is amazing to me that no one yet has filed civil rights lawsuits for the consequences of being deprived of their natural right to self-defense.
Liberals do not trust the individual.
Diane Sawyer believes because you MIGHT miss....because you MIGHT hit an innocent......because you MIGHT have your gun taken away....it is better to kneel quietly and wait for your execution.
I would rather have a fighting chance at life than face certain death.
Police officers are a great defense, if you have a way to automatically call them and a half hour to wait until they get there.
For immediate assistance a firearm works best.
I’m sure we’ll see this on national top-story news. /s (May the MSM rot in hell.)
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away...
So rich with irony. A thief and potential murderer crying for the cops to defend him and not his intended victims.
No matter, he's worm food now.
When I pick up my son from, or return him to Ohio State, I am always packing. A .45 between my right thigh and the consule and a .25 in my right front pocket. I doubt if I ever have to use them, but I do drive thru some rather skanky neighborhoods.
As Pink Floyd sang, “be ready to strike, when the moment is right, without thinking.”
This will be lucky to make a two-sentence blurb on the back page of just one newspaper in the country.

Q: Why do you carry a handgun?
A: Because a cop is too heavy.
This has been said elsewhere, but it’s worth repeating here:
IF this Law-abiding citizen hadn’t been armed, and hadn’t stopped the Perps,
It would have been another massacre the Lying Statist Media would have Cynically used as another reason to disarm the Law-abiding.
But since a Law-abiding citizen WAS armed, it meant the elimination one LOW-LIFE Perp,
And silence from the LSM.
Think about that the next time there’s one of these massacres, and they push for more Idiotic Gun-free zones and the disarmament of the Law-abiding.
TAMPA - Adrianna Sauceda was touching up her makeup in her car Monday when a stranger opened an unlocked door and sat down.
She said the man pointed a gun at her and told her, "Get out."
Sauceda pulled out her own gun and told the man the same thing.
"I told him he needed to get out and he screamed and yelled and jumped out of the car," said Sauceda , 31. "He didn't expect me to pull a gun on him. That was my advantage. So once he was surprised, I knew I had the upper hand."
The man ran down a hill and got into a getaway car parked near 3900 W. Kennedy Blvd., she said.
One problem with this argument for the elitists, is that it proves too much. If ordinary people can't handle stress and will make the wrong decision with guns, why doesn't this apply to other decisions?
Ordinary people can't make the correct decision about their careers. What jobs people do, ought to be determined by the elitists.
Ordinary people can't make the correct decision about credit cards, mortgages, finances. These decisions ought to be made by the elitists for the benefit of the ordinary folks.
Ordinary people obviously can't make the right decision about gay marriage and the elitists are in the process of making this decision for the tea-bagging rednecks.
Ordinary people can't be trusted to make the right decision when voting. So, the DSM must turn itself into a propaganda organ of Zero News to lead the people into voting the right way. The elitists are also using the courts to make sure elections won't matter anyways.
Ordinary people can't make the right decision about abortion, so will shove abortion on demand down their throats and eventually require a license to have a child. You must be qualified to raise a child you know.
That's the vision of Diane Sawyer and the elitists.
Sauceda pulled out her own gun and told the man the same thing.
She took an unnecessary risk.
She should have immediately shot him.
This guy could have killed her. Instead of screaming like a little girl he could have shot her, even without intending to.
If someone is pointing a gun at you either pull your gun and use it immediately or leave it in the holster. Use it or dont.
After she pulled her gun she had the advantage of surprise for a split second. Once the gun is out and he sees it she is dependent on his reaction time and whether he is willing to kill her. I am not willing to bet my life on the choices a criminal will make.
In her case, a locked door may have stopped the entire event.
Still, good for her. I wish I could get my wife to carry. Trouble is, she prefers center fire rifles....
— Remington Model 11-48 12 guage semi-automatic shotgun;
— Parker-Hale .270 WinMag, with Redfield 3x9 scope;
— Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 magnum pistol with 7.5” barrel;
— Colt Colteer .22 semiautomatic rifle;
Not all of these guns were in my dorm at the same time, but depending on season I would bring the appropriate gun and leave the others at home. At least one or 2 were always in the dorm.
I was typical of most of the male students, especially ones from the south.
In other words, using the hysterical vernacular of modern screeching liberalism, we lived in an “armed camp with deadly weapons of war inches from our bedsides” ...
No one went wild and shot people.
No one ran and got their guns when there was a scuffle.
At no point was there any foolish behavior with these weapons. To do so would have meant banishment from the realm of responsible people into the category of “untrustworthy”.
We were raised differently than alot of kids these days, I suppose. We have lost so much so fast, I can only imagine how things will be in another 30 years.
True.
One thing I like about my Fords; every time you take your foot off the brake, if the doors are not locked they will lock automatically.
Never have to worry about my wife or daughter driving around with unlocked doors.
Hot exactly a preferred concealed carry piece.
Unless you are six foot ten and full of muscle.
I got it for $250 in 79 I think, along with a nice soft case and a Bianchi shoulder rig. It was legal to hunt deer with certain pistol calibers and barrel lengths, so I gave it a try ... But yea, if you are looking for something concealable, there might be better choices ... :)
Hopefully that can be turned off somehow. That would infuriate me.
I never lock the doors, even when I run into the store.
I agree. She should have shot him, if for no other reason than community service.
Yeah, she’s fortunate all right. She certainly could have invoked the “I felt myself in danger of life and limb when I pulled the trigger,” that our NRA concealed-carry instructor advised.
I wish what you just posted could rephrased as a question (starting with, “Don’t you think it’s a bit odd or unfair that ...”) and ask that question to one of the media talking heads, live on national TV.
My brother has one with the 10 inch barrel its a hand full. But you can drive tacks at 50 yards.
It’s not difficult to lock your car before you sit down.
Only when not affected by the actual situation can anyone make normative decisions about what “should have” been done.
This woman walked away unharmed, and without a man’s life on her conscience, justified or not. That’s a win.
Why I live here. Reason #154
How about:
Why is it that massacres by Criminal nut cases get more coverage than Armed and law-abiding citizens defending themselves and others?
Of course, the LSM would never honestly answer such a question for obvious reasons.
