Napolitano Pulls Right-Wing Extremism Report
The Washington Times ^ | May 14, 2009 | Audrey Hudson

Posted on 05/14/2009 10:31:48 AM PDT by conservativegramma

A contentious "Rightwing Extremism" report that warned of military veterans as possible recruits for terrorist attacks against the U.S. was not authorized, has been withdrawn and is being rewritten, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Capitol Hill lawmakers.

"The wheels came off the wagon because the vetting process was not followed," Ms. Napolitano told the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday.

"The report is no longer out there," she said. "An employee sent it out without authorization."

The report was shared with state and local law enforcement officials nationwide via the department's internal Web site on April 7, angering Republican lawmakers and military veterans who said it unfairly stereotyped veterans.

Ms. Napolitano did not say when the report was taken off the "intel Web site" and all Homeland Security Department Web sites, but she said it is in the process of being "replaced or redone in a much more useful and much more precise fashion."

Yep, blame the employee. Never mention it took an entire MONTH to decide to pull it, after first Napolitano affirming it would ‘stand was written’. Something strange going on IMO.

No.

The wheels came off the wagon because they did what you told them to do.

Telegraphing your's and your boss's, i.e., the Administration's, deep-seated communist totalitarian hatred of all dissent...and those pesky defenders of their constitutional rights to freedom ...and a small republican form of government.

Next we will see Ayers's style hit squads after all of us. They will make it look like an "accident" I'm sure.

This is an old liberal tactic. Tell the lie then retract it when the truth comes out. That was almost always their approach with the Bush administration.

Meanwhile the lie has taken root and is flourishing while the retraction is on page 16 of the NYT.

Obama was here in Phoenix Az last night talking to a crowd of graduates at ASU. He mentioned Napolitano, saying how we lost a great Governor but now she was doing great work for him in Washington as the head of Homeland Security.

Doesn’t look to me as if he’ll be calling for her position.

angering Republican lawmakers and military veterans who said it unfairly stereotyped veterans.

It also unfairly stereotyped (1) Pro-life groups, (2) Pro-2nd Amendment groups, (3) Groups that advocate limited government within Constitutional constraints, (4) groups that attend Tea-Party tax protests.

Before: She was all for it and publicly defended it. McVeigh! All we need is one data-point to profile - profiling on the basis of thousands or millions of data-points is bigoted and illogical.

After: The sheeple weren’t supposed to see it. Some low-level staffer will take the heat for performing the legwork ordered of him by his superiors to facilitate the delivery of the report prepared by said superiors.

Got it.

I thought originally Napoliatano had defended the report, now she’s blaming it on improper vetting?????

First - she defended it. At one point she actually said the report was completed under the Bush Administration. Then she said it was a mistake to release it. Now she is saying it was because of a lack of proper "vetting"? She is a lying POS and needs to resign immediately.

But - why is this coming out now? Something stinks, a diversion from something worse perhaps?

Gee, her statement defending the report was awful full of "I" and "me" for someone who claims she was blind-sided by some evil minion in the DHS.

Statement by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on the Threat of Right-Wing Extremism

Release Date: April 15, 2009

For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010

The primary mission of this department is to prevent terrorist attacks on our nation. The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States. I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution.

Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don’t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence. We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources.

I am aware of the letter from American Legion National Commander Rehbein, and my staff has already contacted him to set up a meeting next week once I return from travel. I will tell him face-to-face that we honor veterans at DHS and employ thousands across the department, up to and including the Deputy Secretary.

As the department responsible for protecting the homeland, DHS will continue to work with its state and local partners to prevent and protect against the potential threat to the United States associated with any rise in violent extremist activity.

The Bozzoette says the report is no longer out there and we should now be satisfied? The fact that Homeland INsecurity generated the report in the first place is cause enough to be a warning to all conservatives. I’m disappointed that I won’t have the pleasure of kicking a government goon off my doorstep for wanting to “ask me some questions about my views”.
