Officials say a woman was killed in her mobile home near Green City in Sullivan County.
State Emergency Management Agency Susie Stonner says there are reports of injuries in the Kirksville-Novinger area, but she had no other details.
According to storm spotters, the tornado was a rain-wrapped wedge-shaped storm that was estimated at a quarter-to half-mile in width.
Stonner said the storm left several people trapped in basements.
According to the Adair Count Emergence Operations Center, 30 to 40 homes sustained at least some damage in the storm, with at least one home completely destroyed.
Diane Western of the Northeast Regional Medical Center reports that there has been a slow trickle of patients entering the hospital, mostly with minor injuries. She says that traffic in Kirksville has been a problem following the storm, with some people coming into the hospital on their own and others coming in ambulances.
Officials with Truman State University reported that the twister missed their campus near the center of Kirksville, and that they had no reports of damage or injuries.
According to reports, the Jim Robertson auto dealership in Kirksville sustained significant damage.
Power is reportedly out across significant parts of the Kirksville area.

God be with all those in the path of these storms.
I have a friend in Kirksville! Hope she’s okay. She shut her computer down because the storms were coming. Think I’ll say a prayer for her family and all others in the path of this storm.
This link says they’ve opened a shelter in Kirksville.

Prayers offered up.
That storm was rough. We caught the north end of it and just got some heavy rain but NE MO got a pretty nasty hit.
We live near Kirksville, and the family was up (at the church that is now a shelter) preparing for the Right to Life yard sale. My dh called shortly before the storms hit and I was nearly begging him to come home. They would have been safe there, but I didn’t know that. They heard the warnings as they headed out of town (away from the weather). The bad stuff was at the north end of town. I guess the tornado missed the Home Depot?
I hope it doesn’t get ugly again tonight.
