Department of Energy, Jimmy Carter’s biggest failure? There’s so many to choose from

Exactly what was Jimmy Carter’s biggest failure?

Carter screwed us with the DoE, but there’s more.

*Carter’s July 15, 1979 Malaise speech when he showed us he was out of hope and ideas and but full of self pity.

*Giving away the Panama Canal or asking his 13 year old daughter for advice on nuclear warfare and being stupid enough to quote her.

*What about the Department of Education? Bureaucrats referred to it as “E.D”, an abbreviation which has another meaning today, but might very well apply to the Department of Education as well.

*Maybe it was the endless gas lines.

*Carter gave us: 13.5% inflation; 21.5% prime rates and home mortgage rates of 14.7%; high unemployment and a jaw dropping 33% poverty rate! He delivered lower disposable income rates for every income quintile.

*Maybe it was the shameful self debasement Carter displayed when he accepted a Nobel Peace Prize as a way to embarrass George W. Bush America’s serving President. He joined Euro-trash socialists in mocking and attacking Bush on foreign soil during wartime in return for a “prize” he didn’t deserve.

The Department of Energy (DoE) Carter’s worst failure

The incomprehensible DoE mission statement would be funny if it weren’t so infuriating. It says nothing about lowering energy prices, its original assignment. Today nobody knows what it does only that it doesn’t lower oil prices.

Now Industry experts are talking about possible $300.00 oil. The DoE was created to lower our dependence on foreign oil, but today we use 45% more than when Carter started it. DoE’s 15,000 workers “need” $24 billion a year to complete its mystery assignment, yet it gives us nothing in return.

Carter’s worst damage is the DoE. It never produced anything but wasted the time and money needed to achieve American energy independent.

Everytime there is a new "Blue Ribbon" panel put together to talk about the latest phase of the ongoing energy crisis, keep Carter and the feckless DoE in mind. Gas has gone up 16 cents in the past week. Hold on here we go again!

In Oct 2007, the DJIA was at 14,000
In July 2007, unemployment was at 4.5%

They called it the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Now Obama has given us:
9% unemployment,
a DJIA recently at 6500 and
a deficit of $1.8T --

and the media tells me things are pretty good.

See the tagline I’ve been running for the last 6-8 months.

In his 1982 presidential memoir, Carter cited as his biggest mistake “allowing Ronald Reagan to become President of the United States.”

An extremely flawed list since it omits Carter’s hands down greatest failure...Permitting the Shah to get overthrown and the Shia Islamowackos to assume power in Iran.

Now that we have seen how Islamic fundamentalists act when they get some power, it sure puts the Shah’s “human rights abuses” in perspective, does’nt it?

don't forget the Department of Education. It was founded in 1979, my senior year in high school. When I was in school, the Principal at our school WAS THE LAW! If some weasel from Central office tried to pass down some order or form or some other sort of paperwork, "Charlie A" would let them know where to put it...uhh, "File 13".

The teachers were RULERS in their class. They taught the way they felt we should be taught. My Physics and Chemistry teacher didn't believe in holding labs....felt it wasted too much time. Instead, we learned things like Chemical reductions, derivatives, and other math-related items. Basically, it was like taking two college courses before actually going to college (turned out I could learn the lab part in about two hours).

Nowadays, the teachers and principals are all beholden to Central Office, who's beholden to the latest Dept. of Ed. dictum. I almost got into a shouting match with the Principal of my kids' elementary school, when he hid behind "District policy" when he tried to keep my son back a grade (turned out, we homeschooled him that year...also, it wasn't because he was a dummy but because we placed him in 4th grade but wanted him placed in 5th grade when we moved to another district).

After 15 years, my wife went back into the classroom as a teacher. She's totally restricted on what she can teach the kids. The sad thing is, all she's been doing is "teaching for the test", which is a standard curriculum test they give each year. I want her to teach another year for the money, then come home after we get our debts paid off.

In 1979, our four year old son had accumulated $100 in his piggy bank and we decided it was not too early to start saving for college. Our local bank would not offer a CD for less than $500 but the local savings and loan did offer a $100 CD. The one year/$100 CD paid 20 percent interest.

The Department of Education and Department of Energy are two key examples of gov’t agencies that don’t seem to be needed and/or doing anything worthwhile.

Do we have better educational outcomes in this country since we have a cabinet level Department of Education?

Do we have better sources of energy, greater research and development in this area, or any other positive results in the energy field, since we have had a cabinet level Department of Energy?

How did the nation survive the first 200+ years of our existence without these departments, if these agencies are so vital?

We need to start a movement to eliminate the Dept of Energy and the Department of Education...for starters. Beck has been talking about “Administrators” from the early 20th century Progressive movement and these types of agencies are perfect examples and must go.

To be fair to Carter (who I despise), the Department of Energy traces its roots back to 1946 with the old Atomic Energy Commission, and the Department of Education, was formerly the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, which was created in 1953 during the Eisenhower Administration. Carter broke HEW up into the Departments of Education and Health & Human Services in 1979

Just to keep the facts straight...
