"Every means possible to destroy the Scouts" (Lesbian & Agnostic couples sue Boy Scouts of America)
California Catholic Daily ^ | May 8, 2009 | staff

Posted on 05/08/2009 4:40:49 PM PDT by kellynla

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) joined forces to file a friend of the court brief asking the United States Supreme Court to overturn a decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals penalizing San Diego Boy Scouts because of their “morally straight” values.

At issue in the case are leases from the City of San Diego allowing the San Diego Boy Scouts to build and operate campgrounds and an aquatic center for use by the Scouts and the public. Lesbian and agnostic couples, who had never visited the facilities, sued the Scouts on a claim that they felt offended by the fact that the City leases the public property to a “morally straight” organization such as the Boy Scouts. There were no religious symbols at the facilities.

Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center commented, “We are pleased to join forces with ADF in this is important case to protect the Boy Scouts of America. Radical homosexuals are attempting to use every means possible to destroy the Scouts despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that recognized their First Amendment right to have a morally-based policy excluding homosexual involvement.”

According to the Scout Oath, a Boy Scout is “to do duty to God and country… and to keep morally straight.” The lawsuit against the Scouts was brought by a self-proclaimed “agnostic” couple and a lesbian couple.

Screw them.

I can’t believe there aren’t some conservatives with land out there who can offer it up to the scouts for use and tell those people to go pound sand.

Well, we know why.

Because they hate what the Scouts promote. Hey, I was a Boy Scout once, and I will say we weren’t Boy Scouts. We were boys, and we did all the crazy things boys do, sometimes the opposite of what the Scouts proscribe.

But, we learned a lot. We learned how to improvise, be self-sufficient, and, yes...even be responsible.

They hate that stuff. They can’t stand it when someone actually proposes a standard to try to meet, it is why they take such joy when conservatives DON’T meet their standards.

But at least we, and the Scouts have standards that we aim for. If you don’t have a target, you can’t put one through the bulls eye.

I wonder if the lesbians and male homos and the bi’s and the tri’s and the ‘those who prefer animals’ and the ‘those who prefer prepubesent youth’ and the agnostics and etc., etc., will EVER stop. Ever. They are one perverted group of creeps.

Why not? Apparently, it's the American way! Too many lawyers chasing too few clients - what would an economist say?

That it is more important to destroy others’ beliefs and morality is evil.

Vice. Purely vice, and vicious.

Hate speech and crime on their part. That’s a plan in the making.

“for crying out loud..why don’t these whiners start their OWN scouts??”

Because virtually no one would join. Would you send your son on a week long camping trip with a homosexual group of leaders?

So, they prefer to destroy a great organization that is very popular for families with kids.

I completed my lifesaving merit badge in that pool on the way to Eagle Scout. I've also spent countless hours on the site performing refurbishment and improvements during the time I was in Scouts. The monetary investment and free labor donated to keep that site in top shape is enormous. It is open for use by the public in addition to some specialized support for the Scouts. The attack by the gays and lesbians is simply their manifestation of perverted behavior directed against normal people. The revelation that they claimed "offense" in spite of never having physically visited the site reinforces my belief that it is perverted hatred on their part.

There are some conservatives with ranches near Lake Hemet that make their land available for scouting activities. That works well for a scheduled weekend outing where the long drive is acceptable. That isn't the case with the summer merit badge programs. Most of the scouts who attend them depend on getting a quick ride up to Balboa Park where a parent can drop them off for a few hours to perform service projects or specific merit badge tasks.

As a Scout, I pedaled my bicycle all over San Diego county to reach merit badge counselors for music, bugling, firemanship, nature, electronics, electricity and a couple others. Cooking was handled between home and some overnight camping trips. Citizenship in the Nation and Citizenship in the Community were also handled on my bike. Riding to La Mesa from Chula Vista was the longest of the treks to a merit badge counselor.

Thanks...but it was true. We WEREN’T “Boy Scouts”...we actually got kicked out of a jamboree for throwing eggs instead of eating them for breakfast.

But even that helped me. I learned there were limits to what would be tolerated, even in an organization that was fairly tolerant because it knew boys were boys.

Without the Scouts, having a mostly uninvolved father (except for chore assignment and discipline), I don't know what I would have become. Much of what I am I attribute to the moral and ethical framework, the sense of husbandry for nature and training to fend for myself, provided by the Scouts.

Many of the enemies of what made the United States of America great are easily identified by their enmity and vilification of the Boy Scouts of America.

My dad was an Eagle Scout. He earned 42 merit badges. That was an example for me. He was also a naval officer. Most of my life, he was at sea. Mom took care of the daily household chores. I did the things my dad wasn't around to handle. That included installing a gas water heater, repairing the controller on the gas forced air heater (I rode my bike to National City to purchase the last controller in stock). I rode my bike to Sears in downtown Chula Vista to purchase a replacement spring for the garage door. It was "interesting" doing the install. I had little choice as dad's ship was in Hawaii and mom had flown out to visit for a few days. The industrious things I learned in scouting provided the skills and troubleshooting practice. BTW, I earned 3 merit badges during mom's trip to Hawaii.

I can safely say that making Eagle comes with lots of help from a devoted mother. Most of that was transportation to merit badge counselors. My mom even grabbed a stopwatch to help me practice the "disrobe in under 60 seconds" drill required in the lifesaving merit badge.

I actually made the Chula Vista to La Mesa trip many times on my bike. The object of my affection was the Heathkit store. I've been fascinated by electricity and electronics since I was in kindergarten. Those long bike rides culminated in hours of solder smoke and nifty end products. Many were ham radio accessories. Others were computer boards.

Lake Murray to downtown San Diego or La Mesa? I've only visited Lake Murray twice while I lived in San Diego. The visits were during the summer and temperatures were approaching 110 degrees. We didn't stay long.

When I was working for PacBell, I would eat lunch at the Chicken Pie Shop or City Deli. Both were walking distance from the Robinson St central office. My PacBell office was at 525 B St. There were plenty of places to eat, but as a newly hired engineer, I didn't have much disposable income to burn eating in downtown restaurants. I saved my money and spent it at the local bookstore. Most of what I purchased was UNIX and C books. In time, that's where my career went.

I started with Pacific Telephone at 525 B St in April 1980. While at that office, I did much of the engineering that laid the foundation for the data center at 7337 Trade St. In May 1983, I moved to a new job in PREMIS/LAC at Trade St. That morphed into the SOAC/LFACS program in 1984. By Dec 1985, I was ready for a new challenge. The COSMOS/MIZAR hardware/software replacement was my baby as the senior UNIX support person. When the company decided that having a great stock price was better than being a first rate technical company, I joined 6,000 other employees in finding a greener pasture in Dec 1991. I have no regrets. The nearly 18 years I've spent with my current company have been outstanding.
