(IsraelNN.com) Despite the EU Parliament's vote Wednesday to legalize shechita, the Jewish method of humane animal slaughter is still very much in danger.
It was reported on Thursday that the European Jewish Community hailed the European Parliaments vote to legalize the traditional Jewish method of slaughter into European law. However, it was later clarified that in fact, the Parliament only has consultative status in this case, and that the European Unions Council of Agricultural Ministers will have the final say when it convenes next month.

You mention Halal slaughter. I believe that you are refering to Halachic slaughter. Halachic is the interpretation of the Law. So Shechita slaughter is described as a Halachic interpretation, thus they are one and the same.

No, Halal slaughter is the Muslim method, which is similar to kosher slaughter.
Halal and Kosher slaughter involves the animal bleeding to death, correct?
IIRC they don’t even use bolt stunners. The animal’s neck is severed, and the heart is allowed to pump out the blood, till the animal dies.

around here they were killing goats and sheep in the back of vans that were positioned over rainwater sewers with a hole in the floor of the van for the bleeding of the animal.
Exactly. If halal (Muslim practice) is OK, then kosher should be OK, too.

Halal is the islamic name for their form of slaughtering animals for food.
