CA: Recall bid against Schwarzenegger gets green light
Contra Costa Times ^ | 5/8/09 | Glenn Gehlke

Posted on 05/08/2009 9:40:39 AM PDT by NormsRevenge

An effort to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger moved ahead Thursday when Secretary of State Debra Bowen certified an organizer's recall petition.

The campaign to unseat the governor is being waged by Edwin Snell, a San Bernardino County resident who runs a political action committee called Recalls California.

The recall petition claims Schwarzenegger "no longer represent(s) the interest of the people and has betrayed the trust of the voters."

Proponents of the recall drive now have 160 days to gather signatures of 12 percent of the state's 8,679,416 registered voters, with a final filing date of Oct. 14.

Once the signatures are certified — a process that could take until Feb. 5 — a date for a recall election would have to be set, but could be conducted within 180 days of the certification date, according to Bowen's office.

If another DemocRAT gets in it won't matter very much.

If McClintock gets in, it will mean everything. Might be his time. Finally.

I’m beginning to wonder if maybe Arnie is secretly hoping to be turned out of office, the sooner the better.

Considering the bill for the mess he’s been making is only just starting to come due. I should think he wants to get back to Hollywood at the earliest opportunity.

When is Arnie termed out? 2010? Might be less expensive to just vote every prop NO and then just ride him out until he is forced to leave.

Yeah, let’s recall Arnold but leave the anti-American, pro-illegal communist legislature in place. Great job, everyone. Good thinking. Must be former McCain campaign strategists working this one.

Garamendi may want to sit tight for now and wait on running of Congre$$,, but who would want the job now, the ship’s bottom is ruptured , heavy seas ahead..

McClintock is in the US Congress now, and I doubt he wants to go anywhere. He’s probably learned by now that he’s not going to win statewide office in California. He barely won his House seat in a reliable Republican district. So lets just be glad we have him where he is. I’d rather see Eric Cantor and John Boner tossed aside for Tom and Mike Pence in the House GOP Leadership.

Playing devil’s advocate, just what could he have done to make things better?

From way back east, it seems the California city folks are wacko and completely in control of everything that matters. Regardless of what he tried he was doomed by lack of political power.

Voted in by the recall of Gray Davis and maybe voted out by the same method. Damn! I wish we had the recall in Pennsylvania!

Please remind us out of staters-- isn't the process of whether to vote yes or no to retain the governor, then to vote for one candidate in case the "nays" win? And they need only win a plurality, not a majority, right?

“If another DemocRAT gets in it won’t matter very much.”

It will matter that they can’t continue to blame the mess in Calif. on Repbulicans because Arnie is a RINO.

Why the heck Arnold didn’t stand by his economic principles (at least the ones he said he had when he origninally ran) I’ll never understand. Like Bush, he’ll be remembers as someone that ruined his economy by caving to the left. Had he stood firm, who knows if the outcome would have been any differnt, but he would have been remembered as someone that fought the good fight.

He’ll get fewer Republican votes than Democrat votes should he be recalled.

With Obozo in power, it will be difficult for a new governor to make any meaningful changes - see the threat from Obozo about California unionized health worker wages. Let the whole thing go down in flames and take Arnie with it.

I don’t think any Governor can do anything about California’s problems until the legislature is replaced and the way anyone can propose anything to be placed on the ballot. I hope some of you out there are ready because if the welfare checks stop coming there will be riots!

LOL beat me to it. Total Recall. Arnuld’s sci fi movies are less bizarre than where Mexifornia is heading.

We have Google building Obama’s SkyNet to spy on us. if it wasn’t for Obama’s phony stimulus - CA would be totally insolvent. Open borders, liberalism and liberal judges killed California.

County-by-county results of the 2003 recall.

Green counties voted to dump Gray Davis, red counties to keep him.

Correct ,, it’s a two part ballot if you will , the recall needs a 50% plus 1 to pass, and then katie bar the door the highest vote tote of all candidates wins it all.. no runoff

I am angry too along with disappointed but I won't turn that anger and frustration to a spend at any cost - it is counterproductive to say we want less time, effort and money in politics yet spend it on this.

We need to take back our state and country by spending time fixing, it is more valuable then money.

I agree the recall petition is important as it sends him a message he is on the wrong horse again and constant reminders by putting out the next candidates and their views to show him what he told us he was going to do and failed miserably at reading the Constitution and understanding his job and failing the vast majority of the California voters and tax-payers.

I am glad he replaced Davis, but, he has gone “green” with predictably whack budget results, like ridiculous standards that have us all paying a high premium for gas, resulting in higher costs of everything. He supports homo marriage now and has a lesbo chief of staff. He has advocated raising taxes in a phenomenal manner. He has opposed the one thing that might help us get on our financial feet - offshore drilling. And he loves social programs.

Time for him to go. I am sorry, I find him a likeable fellow, and it helped us when he replaced Grey. But he seems to have to moral center or principles, nor does he seem to have any economic logic.

Seems that The Left is planning for its scapegoat in Kalifornika.......unfortunately, many good Californians will continue to suffer the ills of years of poor fiscal policy and the state's legislature drive toward socialism.

The Left controls that state. Arnie will know soon what it is like to get 'Bushed' by The Left ('Read My Lips - No New Taxes').

He compromised repeatedly with the Dems and now his 'thank you' is comin'.
