Meghan McCain: Republicans Don't Get Sex

Meghan McCain says it's time for Republicans to talk about sex.

The daughter of former presidential candidate John McCain said Bristol Palin's annoucement that she's be repping an anti-teen pregnancy group helped her realize the GOP's view of sex was misguided.

"Unless we learn how to integrate that kind of discussion, our party will continue its descent into irrelevance," she wrote today in the Daily Beast.

McCain said she's a pro-lifer but believes in using birth control and having sex education -- and that promoting an abstinence-only lifestyle is unrealistic.

"Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it -- as if there were some strange chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring," she wrote.

McCain argues that communication between parents and their kids is more important than maintaining abstinence.

"Republicans typically don't like to discuss or deal with things they think are wrong or immoral," she wrote. "And that's a huge mistake. If we can't discuss birth control in addition to abstinence, and in a nonjudgmental way, kids will continue to make bad choices."

Republicans "Get Sex" as in, we understand it. We also understand sex education. We also understand that there are disparate views of sexual morality and wise sexual behavior. That being said, most of us Republicans probably consider it wisest that parents educate their children in matters of sex and morality.

Those that I find the least reliable in matters education and the last persons that I want educating my child on these views are a bureaucrats. And politicians. And Meghan McCain.

I am wondering when something will come from Meghan McCain that does not condescend.
