First lady Michelle Obama says everyone should have what she has: a chief of staff and a personal assistant.
Speaking Thursday in support of sick days with pay and flexible work schedules, Mrs. Obama said that, as challenging as her new life may sometimes seem, hers is a "very blessed situation, because I have what most families don't have" -- support from her mother and a staff.
"Everyone should have a chief of staff and a set of personal assistants," she said at a meeting of Corporate Voices for Working Families, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to develop and promote policies to help working families.
Absent personal assistants for all, Mrs. Obama said workers should have paid sick days, schedules that give them time for their family responsibilities, such as picking up children or taking them or parents to doctors' appointments, and quality child care on the job.
Also needed is paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, or to deal with serious illness, she said.
"These types of policies can be the key to whether a family remains economically viable or slips into financial uncertainty," she said.

Semmens will do this justice......
So do all the people who make up her staff, do they get their own staff too? How does that all work out if everyone gets paid sick leave and a huge staff?
What a socialist imbecile. They gotta put her back in the closet. Maybe get her a hand puppet to lecture to.
.
When I see the words “First Lady” I immediately see Laura Bush. She was a Lady.
If these laws are passed employers will not hire women.
I guess that grifter woman in Florida is going to think that in addition to the house and new car Obama is going to give her, she is now going to get a chief of staff and a set of personal assisstants from Michelle...lol
Perhaps the First Lady is unaware companies are bleeding jobs left and right. Family friendly benefits are probably not high on the list of what workers want - they’d much prefer to keep their jobs, just saying!
Those ideas will boost production. Those added expenses on businesses will get a lot more people hired. The 0bamas sure are a couple of thinkers, aren’t they?
American middle class used to have maids, they were often poor white daughters of farmers, or poor inner city black women ... is Michelle suggesting a return to those days ?
Unfortunately, I suspect she is going to be correct. Paid for by the rest of us, of course.
Yes. But with the roles reversed. All the Right Wing Extremists will be the maids and butlers.
Well then..I want a chief of staff and a ‘set’ of personal assistants too! LOL! Maybe this Obama thing will work after all.../sarcasm
The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 provides for a lot of what she’s talking about. However, that act provides for employers giving UNPAID time off to deal with these family matters. So she’s saying it should be mandatory time off WITH PAY.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Congress update that previous law, mandate time off with pay, and also set up a civilian personal assistant labor pool. ACORN volunteers will serve as personal assistants. Each time they come to your house to help you, they will register you to vote again.
I was my OWN Chief of Staff, Dr., Teacher, Taxi, Diaper service, Chief cook and bottle washer, refrigerator defroster, oven cleaner, floor washer and polisher, Vet, dog walker, etc. I was proud to do every last bit of it too. Also kept the house as hubby finished Masters. Washed and ironed our clothes and even ironed starched UNIFORMS. I was happy and proud to do it all and to be a wife and mother of two kids and a dog.
I took great pride and satisfaction in how I kept our home clean for our family and how I cooked good nutritious foods for my family and how I sent them out the door looking clean, neat and pressed. I didn’t want anyone else doing those kinds of things for my family. I dont’ know why anyone would. Being a good wife and mother is my greatest achievement and I would do it all over again. I did it MY way. :)
Real Mothers rule.
The most family friendly policy(ies) I could suggest would be far less government intervention combined with far fewer taxes!
..you'll be missing some valuables and your TV will set to Oprha.
Shut up, Aunt Ester. When we need advice, we won’t ask an affirmative action recipient, since the rest of us don’t get a luxurious life style handed to us.
I can guarantee that if MO’s staff took off for a week and left her high and dry, she would not be so kind and understanding about whatever their personal situations were that caused them to take off. She’d be mad as hell that she’s paying them x and they don’t even come to work.
Yes. On the money. It is possible, that if we were not force-fed trillions of dollars of debt and new taxes and actually had taxes cut, both parents might not have to work two full time jobs just to meet the tax burden.
Hm. More families might even be able to have a parent spend more time raising the kids...
Naaah. Too radical.
Good for you! I do the same thing with 3 kids, 2 dogs and a cat. I know where everyting is and what everyone is doing. I would feel lost with other people doing my job.
Business owners will offset these new costs by eliminating 401k match and health insurance...pushing us all to rely on gubment for retirement and health care.
Whaaaaaat...you mean you didn’t get a $200,000 pay raise as soon as YOUR husband was elected to the senate? Of course, this was just *coincidentally* right around the time her husband requested a million bucks for that facility.
Well, I suppose the job of keeping poor, indigent people out of your emergency room probably needs to be well paying since it is a tough job. Poor Michelle.
Standing ovation for you! I am also my own Chief of Staff and loving every (well most) moments of it. :) If anything, it bugs me that when neighbors, sister-in-laws and friends come over, they always ask, “Is your house always this clean?” and “How do you manage to cook all the time?” It makes me feel almost like a weirdo sometimes. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s with a super organized mom and I’m the same way. The younger moms in our neighborhood don’t seem to understand that once you get something out and use it, you wash it or put it away. Get the mail, open it and toss the junk, then you don’t have a pile on your dining room table.
Common sense. No wonder Michelle 0bama needs a butler. Too much for her to lift a finger.
**First Lady Calls For More Family Friendly Policies**
Then, Michelle, tell your husband to STOP all abortions.
I think Blackie O wants more Government handouts.
The Chief of Staff in our household is on 24x7, doesn’t get paid, and loves her job...especially when her charges call her “Mom.”
Don't forget ice cream and lollipops.
Aren't the Democrats the ones who forced women into the workplace with confiscatory taxation? In the good old days, a man could support a family on his income, and the Mrs. had time to take children to doctor appointments.
Which is a ridiculous mandate to begin with. If an employee vanishes for several weeks/months at a time (paid or not) they are not somebody you can depend on.
What planet is this woman from? Did she just wake up? Does she not know what is going on in America?
Is it possible that anyone can be so stupid? ignorant? ostrichy?
Someone please reboot her, she's out out memory.
Then, Michelle, tell your husband to STOP all abortions.>>
In order to have a family, you must have children who are born into this world. There are so many more children (about 1 million more) who would have graduated from High School this year had they been born and not aborted! Their pictures in the yearbook are blank, their seats in the classroom and on the graduation field are empty!
At Graduation Time Remember the Missing Students Who Were Killed by Abortion
So Mrs. obamma lamma ding dong, how’s that shelf ass look going for ya there dear?
From the back side ya look like a Missouri Mule.
So, the chief of staff would have a chief of staff and personal assistants. The personal assistants would have a chief of staff and personal assistants. And so on, and so on.
I’m my own chief of staff
I’m my own chief of staff
It sounds funny I know
But it really is so
Oh, I’m my own chief of staff
(I was going to change the line to “I’m my own personal assistant,” but that sounded dirty)
And kudos to you as well. I know there are a lot of other moms out there who do the same things. We just don’t hear about them. Talk about stress...I think our parents were stressed but never knew it..you know...kinda like not knowing we were POOR. They did what they had to do for us and made it work and we never questioned them. We had what we had, ate what we had, wore the clothes we had and appreciated what we had probably never knowing to what degree our parents went to to do what they did for us.
I think it is so sinful today how we waste, throw away and make purchases on things that are definitely not worth it like tennis shoes with other people’s names on them. Seems to me while all those people think they are the cat’s meow with those items...the manufacturers are laughing at them all the way to the bank.
This economy is not good but...I think those that dip into their creativity and proceed wisely will come out OK. The challenge to make something out of nothing has always been there and we are working on going back to basics too. Nothing wrong with it. Makes you appreciate what you have.
I pray for our country and the world. We need help!
Excellent point. I can see her throwing a hissy fit....LOL
Then they get one of their epiphanies that usually come about when their social experimentation is found not to be the utopia everyone hoped for. But when they become enlightened, it is not to show them the mistakes they made; it is to blame other forces for the mess. In this case, it's the big, bad selfish corporation so let's make the corporation give family time off. Oh, that's not working quite as well as they thought? Let's make the big, bad corporation pay for family leave time.
Yup.
Well, most people have never been presented with our side of the argument. Their reaction is frighteningly reflexive.
Democrats have a knack for turning a mess they made into another quagmire. A very good book to read about the consequences of feminist thinking, social engineering and legislation is “Domestic Tranquility” written by F. Carolyn Graglia. Written in 1998 yet the feminist destruction continues.
More of the same garbage. It all rings totally hollow when you recall that her husband thinks babies are a “punishment”.
fumogate?
