Dick Morris: My advice is learn to live with it (Vanity)

Posted on 05/07/2009 7:06:08 AM PDT by wingsof liberty

We all know about the reporter who got a "Tingle going up his leg" when The One spoke. Well what Dick Morris said last night on O'Reilly sent a shiver up my spine. Anyone familiar with him knows that Dick knows his stuff. The issue was the redefining of the Republican Party. He said that if Obamas radical agenda works - big govt, nationalized healthcare, out of control spending, etc. we will all have to become Democrats. If it doesnt work (which I believe is the most likely outcome) the GOP will make a big comeback in 2010 and 12. What scared me is how he said its all going to happen no matter what. Does anyone believe The One is going to get everything he wants without opposition? I know the Dims have virtual control of both houses, but there are a lot of 1st term Senators & Congressman out there, not to mention blue dog democrats. What do lawmakers want more then anything else? More terms in office. They are the ones who will have to go back to their districts and explain why the unions are going to decimate business, energy bills skyrocket due to cap-and-trade, why its best for the govt to fund their childrens college education, essentially running their lives from cradle to grave, etc. Because of this I cant believe the Dims will just rubber stamp The Ones agenda, no matter how radical. Whats worse is once a lot of these programs are in place and scope of govt increased, it will be VERY difficult, if not impossible for future administrations to role them back. Its looking more and more like the damage The One will do over the next 4 years is beyond calculation.

Here's my ray of sunshine: Obama looses Congress in 18 months due to his overreaching Socialist agenda. So-called moderates move to right. We handicap him. Market explodes as his policies are reversed or stymied.

The issue here isn't whether zer0's policies will work or not, anyone with any common sense or even brief familiarity of history knows the will be a disaster.

This will only be a test of the ability of the propaganda machine (MSM) to convince as many peoples as possible for as long as possible that the policies are working.

There will be a time when the citizens wake up, the question is will it be too late.

The damage here will not be felt for some time. The Chysler and GM debacles with respect to the screwing of the secured debt holders is a good place to start. ANY unionized company is not going to be able to borrow money from anyone save for the Feds out of fear by the lenders that their contractual rights won't be respected by an out of control executive branch. And, with Card Check always a possibility the outlook for business looks even worse.

No they won’t have to go back to their communities and explain anything. These are politicians. Their egos won’t let them apologize for anything. Right now they’re only thinking of themselves. They’re riding on The One’s golden coat tails hoping for some of the glory to rub off on them. As long as they kiss up to him they’ll be in his favor. The minute they oppose him, they’ll be exiled from the light.

What we’ve failed to understand is we are nothing. We are the little people. It doesn’t matter that we put them in office, it’s that they are there and once there, they can do as they please. There are too many ignorant voters (and makebelieve voters) who don’t pay attention and will just vote for name recognition. Once a politician gets his name out there, he doesn’t have to answer to anyone.

Regarding that “we all have to become democrats” point:

I’ve actually thought about that. So what if there really is only 1 major party? Doesn’t mean the same idealogical arguments don’t still go on within it.

Really all it means is that the primaries become the important elections, with the general elections being a mere formality.

Isn’t it that way in a lot of localities already?

Maybe we’re better off letting the dems rail against the “R” label while we infiltrate their party and attempt to influence their choices.

If Obama's 3rd World Marxism truly worked, I would cheer him on. However, everywhere it's been tried it's proved a total, complete, utter disaster.

For example, I was watching a show on PBS about the Soviet-German alliance from 1939-41, and the later war between them. They interviewed a sailor from the Merchant Marine, who made the Murmansk Run with several fellow sailors who were self-proclaimed Communists (he called them "pinkies"). When they docked in Murmansk, they stayed for several days. According to this sailor, after seeing Communism upclose and personal, ALL the "pinkies" renounced Communism.

Dick Morris DID say this about the GOP- they should ditch the moderates and embrace conservativism....reason being, the radical, flag-burning, baby-killin' left isn't listening to the GOP moderates anyway, so they might as well get their base pumped up by advocating balls-to-the-wall conservatism.

Whatever you say about Dick Morris, he does have a pretty good grasp of tactical politics.

I agree. It’s like being with someone in a car — the other person is driving — and you know they are going the wrong way. By the time that it’s obvious that they took a wrong turn, they have driven the car into quicksand, or off a cliff. You don’t get to have you turn to go back to the “right way.”

We know what will happen based on the 50-year lab experiment in Western Europe. The policies can’t and won’t work, but they will create such dependency and such a large voting bloc that clings to them that future changes in the political dynamic will become impossible, short of outright collapse of the system.

I have to say I’m surprised by Dick Morris. I thought he was on the “conservative” side these last 8 years simply because of the success of the GOP in 2002 and 04, and would soon jump ship back to the left after the failures of 06 and 08.

It’s still possible that he may be secretly in league with the Clintons and is just critical of Obama for that purpose.

As for him “knowing his stuff”, I’m reminded of an episode of “King of Queens” where Arthur was hanging out at a coffee shop giving everyone advice. He later finds out everyone was eager for his advice because, after hearing it, they would just do the exact opposite.

This is what I think Morris’ advice is worth.

” Anyone familiar with him knows that Dick knows his stuff.”

Yup. Morris has an unbroken string of predictions and being wrong about all of them. Whatever he says, the opposite is likely to be true.

I think once Obamachev’s tax hikes sink in, I think the economy will tank. Unemployment will be high. Wouldn’t be surprised to see inflation tick up. Republicans should be able to run on tax and spend and do OK.

Some random thoughts...

We seem to be transitioning from an amazingly successful system (free market capitalism, limited government) to an amazingly unsuccessful one (centrally planned economy, welfare, restrictions on individual liberty), and it is politically incorrect to oppose this. Is there any way to make the Founding Fathers fashionable?

There are some ardent believers in socialism, but a lot of the supporters are people who just want to be accepted, especially young people. They are socialists because it is considered cool. A moment’s reflection would show that it isn’t, that is has never worked, that they will be sacrificing their individual liberties, but they’re not going to think it through, at least not for now.

We also need to reduce white guilt. I believe that will happen over time, although some people can always make a living as race hustlers.

We need a ministry of propaganda for the values and ideals of this country.

The interviews with former KGB agent Uri Bezmenov have been posted before. They are at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlkPkJInUmU&feature=related and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIFcnctnHsE&feature=related . His advice to us is to teach patriotism.

When I was young, I was more or less a social democrat, but I changed as I got older. The young socialists of today could change some 20 years down the road.

The upcoming elections will be very telling. We may have more supporters than we think, and some of them may be old-fashioned liberals. They may not support a lot of what we support, but a taste of real socialism may push them in a more conservative direction.

Conservatives need to fight Obummer. his administration and the libtards in Congress every step of the way. If we are going to be the party of “No!” we better explain why we are saying no. If we are going to be the party of “No!” we better come up with more and better positive solutions of our own and espouse them and make them public as much and as often as possible!

Sometimes there aren't any rays of sunshine. Mussolini grabbed control of Italy with almost the same agenda. People kept saying that the "sensible" Germans would stop Hitler . . . but no one did. The fact is, there are indeed some dark ages in history, and sometimes they belong to us.

It's not inevitable, and I could envision a scenario of overreach, combined with heavy unemployment and more administration screwups, whereby in two or three years, Obama is as unpopular as Bush was and a new GOP rises out of the ashes. But I don't expect that to happen as of today.

I saw the interview and I think he was sort of spot on. His point was that the GOP can’t do much to stop the Rats because the control both houses. But he said the GOP should continue to vote no on all the issues and make them the sole property of the Dems. When things start going off track, then the GOP could stand up and say “I told you so” and then offer better solutions. His emphasis was that the Dems can get whatever they want, so the GOP has to sort of take it on the chin at this point and be prepared to fight back on the issues that matter most. I thought it was a great interview myself.

Let's ignore the simple fact that while Morris has a good track record with short-term advice, his track record of prognostication is very poor.

Let's say he's close to being right about what Principled Conservatives need to do. It's not that I want Obama to fail, I know Obama's policies will fail for the simple reason that such policies don't work.

So he's close to being right, and he's not too far off about what't to be done.

If you have ears and eyes, you will note that Principled Conservatives are under a constant barrage of daily, sometimes hourly outrages. I believe it is a deliberate attempt to cause reaction, to put off balance, to sew division and to seperate out from the ranks of their opposition those weaker members who are already suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

Yes, I believe it is deliberate, and it leaves inaction as a non-starter. This does not mean we can't open our eyes up and see what is happening and choose our ground, disallowing the Regime to choose the ground where we fight.

The answer is confidence. Confidence in our principles, confidence in our choices and beliefs, and most important, confidence in the God of our fathers.

With good humor, remember the unflappable attitude of our ancestors when under fire. Stay calm, keep ready, watch out for one another and do not succumb to desperate fear or anger.

Remember the Regime fears us more than it does Islam. (I did not say they were rational.) Resolve never to surrender, and be no more provoked by the daily outrages to anger but nevertheless remember, take note, and smile.

The Regime has no sense of humor, and over time, if we refuse to be played or to lose our center of gravity, the liberal terror campaign against logic and sensibility will lost its effectiveness.

The answer is not inaction, it is merely to refuse to allow the Regime to choose the ground where we fight. We should not be silent, but very clear and direct as we would with an immature child hoping to disrupt and undermine discipline in a classroom. Confident good humor is an instant sign that, at the very least, sews doubt among those on the sidelines. Tell the truth, and smile. And then repeat.

The future is bleak. Obama’s electoral votes will be there because he is implementing all the necessary programs, ACORN, CENSUS control, etc. to vote him in permanently. There will be illegal voting, etc. He will win the next election because the black people want him because he is black, the gays want him because they feel he will steer the gov. laws in their favor, the Jews want him because they know he isn’t Christian and they still are not convinced that he is Muslim or anti-Jewish, the Muslims love him because he is Muslim, the trash love him because he is trash, on and on! He will be elected again and by the 3’rd term he will have a crisis to where they will put off the elections and our constition will be so watered along with the laws of the land that we will no longer prevail as a free nation. GOD HELP US!

There is an alternative, though, I think we need to consider and it is precisely that his policies will NOT work but that, like FDR, people keep electing Democrats anyway.

The evidence from 1932 on was that FDR wasn't accomplishing anything. Certainly after 1936, the nation was stuck, and after 1938, regressing again. Yet FDR won two more elections before the war ensured him of a third re-election.

The problem is a) the media (which Ron mentioned), and which will blame Republicans for the problems so long as there is even ONE Republican in either House; and 2) Obama is consolidating power faster than FDR did, crushing opposition better than FDR did, and putting in more radical people than FDR even KNEW.

In short, I'm hoping it's not "damned if we do, damned if we don't." If he succeeds he gets credit; if he fails, he blames it on us and slowly turns this into a totalitarian state a la Mussolini.

I know the Dims have virtual control of both houses, but there are a lot of 1st term Senators & Congressman out there, not to mention blue dog democrats.

This is why the push to get things through rapidly, without debate. Two reasons. First, elections are still in the distance so the blue dogs can hope people forget that when it came down to it they proved to be as socilistic as any other dem. Second, they can claim that in the rush to get things done they hadnt been aware of certain aspects and wouldnt have supported them had they known. In other words, they can disavow their own votes.

As it gets closer to 2010, those blue dogs will get more and more uncomfortable and some will begin to break off on selected issues. The major damage has to be done this year, this is the only year Obama has a blank check.

So what if there really is only 1 major party? Doesn’t mean the same idealogical arguments don’t still go on within it.

In the years prior to the civil war, the whig party dissolved and there was one major party, the democrats. But there was a major issue around which a new party could converge, that of slavery. And hence the GOP, cobbled together from old whigs, some northern democrats, and abolitionsists rose. Something similar would happen, there won't just be one party in America.

The only thing he will succeed at is implementing his socialist/communist/fascist/obamanism with the willing help of the MSM telling us how wonderful it is working.

They are already saying that the economy is showing signs of recovery but unemployment has not yet reached its high.

Now my reaction is WTF? The problem as I see it is most people will see it as progress without giving any thought.

That's yet another problem with the electorate, they can be individually experiencing a crap existence but they think its just them because the media say everything is just peachy....and they will believe it.

I think the economy is going to appear to be in recovery in 2010, so Republicans may have trouble recovering any ground in the Senate or House. Real stagflation won't be apparent till 2011, so zero won't be reelected, but the devastation left in his wake will be pretty bad. Real conservative Republicans will appear to be a very tiny minority until 2011.
